Title: 853 Powerline
Post by: Struckat on August 17, 2021, 11:01:04 PM
I bought a 853 on the fleabay and it showed up today. So far so good. Not bad shape, a few dings here and there.

The trigger could be better but I will get used to it. I have the instructions for the upgrade and may do it some day.

Shoots in the 460’s to 470’s with 7 grain wadcutters.
No idea how old it is.

Get in touch with cobalt327 on the Daisy Gate, I'm sure he can tell you.

Looks pretty nice!

NICE! How'd you get it to hang from the  ceiling, like that?
Moving into the Daisy gate.

Moving into the Daisy gate.

I shoot upside down for increased difficulty.

That isn't the  rear peep sight that comes standard with the 853.  It's the one that comes with the 753.

The front sight looks like the standard 853.  Do they work together well?

The gun came to me with a scope and no rear sight. I ordered this off eBay.https://www.ebay.com/itm/313624565341 (https://www.ebay.com/itm/313624565341)

Which is the correct one?

Works nice. I get a clear sight picture, even in my poorly lit basement. Something I cannot get with a Williams peep on my HWs.

Bryan, once I get used to staging the double creep trigger, I will be able to outshoot my HW30 off hand without even trying. I already feel more confident with this one. I am using the post insert now, but have ordered a set so I can try the others.
Then I will put this sight on the HW and see how it goes.

Oh I see the correct one now, but this one gives me plenty of adjustment and a clear sight picture, so I am happy.

that velocity seems normal (acceptable is between 440 and 470). they are incredibly accurate and even though you got the diopter sight on, try it with a powerful scope at a distance that you are sure it can't shoot at... it will surprise you.! i had 753s before and they were fantastic. i traded my last one for a 953 in a box (just wanted it because they are pretty much unobtainium). Also the 953s (i had 2) always shot a bit hotter... mine does 492 fps with daisy wadcutters (7.7 gr). But the jsb 8.44 gr are the go to pellet... it will hit a 9mm casing at 45 yards 8 out of 10 times...  love these little guns. also, if you have a tko, it will fit just fine and make an already quiet rifle virtually silent.

Good to know.  Many have said that the rear sight you're using isn't compatible with the stock 853 front.   You proved them wrong.

My best friend just picked up a Beeman R7 for the purpose of competing with me and my 853-CMP on the GTA 10m rifle match gates.  Should be interesting.

Hope you'll join in too.  The 853 is capable of impressive accuracy.

I plan to shoot both the 853 and HW30. But I need to find a solution for a better sight picture on the HW. Hence I will try this one on the HW.

I am also looking at the various diopter sights from the seller in Bulgaria, Walther and such.
Though I wonder if MDriskill has any he would part with.

Hi Struckat, nice rifle you have there! Just wanted to say I have a Daisy 953 with a 5899 rear aperture sight, and I custom fitted a front Weihrauch globe sight. The two works very well together, I have no doubts your 5996 would do well on your HW.

Cheers!

P.S.: Love your doggie :D

I bought the Daisy so I didn’t have to keep taking the scope off my HW30. But I love shooting the HW with open sights.

I told my wife that this unauthorized expenditure actually saved $200 or more because I didn’t buy another HW....she didn’t buy the reasoning.

The real issue to solve is to stop waiving either rifle around like a drunk. I saw great improvement last winter, but once the weather broke my practice has dwindled.

Nice shooting Bryan, I have a ways to go to catch you.

Interestingly, my HW30 loved the H&N Excite wad cutters. I shot 4 tins of them and they were nearly as accurate as pellets that cost 3 or 4 times as much. But the last 4 tins the HW hates. But they seem to shoot well out of the Daisy. The real test would be with a scope...won’t happen soon.

Yes Happy, I have fallen in love with this 853. I will eventually buy a bunch of parts for it and get the trigger a little more respectable. But for now I can deal with it.
