I have a Benji Sheridan 397PA with some black discoloration at the butt end of the stock.
Is there any way to clean that up shy of refinishing?

Ron, I have had pretty good luck using a mixture of beeswax, BLO, and gum turpentine melted and mix to the consistency of shoe polish. Apply it to an area of the stock and buff out with 0000 steel wool. good at removing oils and grime on the wear areas of stocks. Several times it has cleaned up a stock that I thought would have to be refinished.

Any particular ratio of ingredients?

I use about on third of each. Put the beeswax in a small canning jar. Heat with a heat gun to melt the wax. Stir in the Boiled linseed oil and gum turpentine. If it is too stiff remelt and add more turpentine. Too thin more wax. You should be able to get some on a bit of cloth without too much pressure.
Fredericksburg is nice country to me. Hopefully it will have cooled off a bit for you in September. Give me a shout if you make down Houston way, maybe we could get some lunch or omething.

The mix didn't do the trick........
I actually sanded almost all the black stuff out and applied some Tru-oil.
Looks pretty darn good !
