Title: 3D printing services by members.
Post by: Insanity on May 05, 2021, 01:56:36 AM
This will be a sticky and I will update it as others offer their services for 3D printing. Here is a simple template to fill out so others know what you are capable of. All pricing will be done via PM.

MrP

Printer in use: unmodified sovol sv01
Materials: whatever i have on hand mainly black pla+
Resolution: High .2mm layer height at around 50mm a second print speed.
Custom design: Yes but very crude skills, prefer a file that already exists.
Turnaround time: depends on how busy i am and the printer is - no promises
Bulk orders: unlikely unless related to a shared interest or project.

Pellethuntr

Printer in use: Two - Anycubic I3 Mega S with 200x200x200mm print size (8x8x8 icnhes)
Materials: PETG and PLA (Lots of colors available)
Resolution: Can be modified to suit your part needs but generally printing is done at 0.1 and 0.2mm layers
Custom design: Yes, to an extent. I am proficient in CAD and have a college level education in blueprint reading. I am willing to work with your chicken scratch drawings as well. ;D
Turnaround time: As quick as possible. Multiple parts and in depth CAD work require extra time.
Bulk orders: Yes, I have two printers ready to run and they are both used to multi-day print runs

Please do not use this thread for asking for services. PM the members directly or ask in the general 3D print gate.

I  a help run a professional 3D printing bureau/firearm parts manufacture. If admin allowed, I would like to offer services or expertise/advice. I do not want to compete against members of this forum and take money away from them, but if the job is really complicated or if no one is available, I would be happy to help. We do one off and custom jobs for many forum members on other sites, so we are experienced with this. A lot of our retail optic/firearm accessories came from forum member ideas and they helped us design and test them.

Printer in use: Hewlett-Packard Multi Jet Fusion 5210 Pro (MJF), Syntratec (SLS), FormLabs 3+ (SLA) as well has various FDM printers, **Coming soon, Desktop Metals Shop system (binder jet metals)
Materials: MJF (Nylon11, Nylon12, TPA [mid durometer]), SLS (TPU [high durometer]), SLA (whatever, if we don't stock a small upcharge), FDM (all of them) **Binder Jet (17-4 Stainless)
Resolution: Sky's the limit, depends on printing style and your needs (MJF is the nicest)
Custom design: employ two full time CAD/Firearm engineers, yes
Turnaround time: Depends on quantity, rush fees accepted. Mid/low level quantity usually 3-4 weeks.
Bulk orders: love them, but a quantity from 1 - 10,000
International welcome

Hi Tony,

It looks like you could make some good stuff with that equipment!

What tolerances can you hold on OD / ID in the 8 to 40 mm range, or are all interfaces machined afterwards?

Can you print threads, or do you cut / chase them after printing?

As far as tolerances, that depends on what you need and what machine or printing type you need the products manufactured from. We do not currently machine interfaces afterwards currently, but we can contract someone to do so. We really do not need to though if the products are from SLA or MJF (MJF is much preferred).

Our MJF powder bed printers can hold ~0.003" tolerance [sorry, I talk to Gun guys in the U.S. so we use inches :) ], but that is a general rule of thumb. We manufacture the Katana & Tanto Night Vision housing/bridges for Nocturn Industries (look them up). We print the individual pods where the ocular/objective holes run along the z-axis. We hold 0.001" tolerance on the z-axis on these parts.

We prefer to print threads, but there are some instances where this is not preferred. Printed threads from Nylon11 & Nylon12 out of our MJF machine are great and hold up really well, but ultimately, they are plastic threads. We can design the product so that you can insert a hex/square nut into the model or press in a threaded brass insert. We can print some very "fine" threads that hold up very well though. For an example, we print 10-32 and 1/4-20 threads all the time and they do not need any post processing like tapping or chasing threads. Finer (think 4-40 tpi or finer) threads may need to be tapped is they are in a "female hole".

Thanks, Tony

I think the next aspect people may wonder about, is cost.   I suppose a person would need to submit a file and specify the material to get a quote?  How do you compare to Xometry and Protolabs price-wise?

As a for instance, what the mag rotors cost to print from nylon (or other suitable plastic), posted here:  https://www.gatewaytoairguns.org/GTA/index.php?topic=208158.msg156450725#msg156450725 (https://www.gatewaytoairguns.org/GTA/index.php?topic=208158.msg156450725#msg156450725)
Note ZIP file containing two STLs.

Note to GTA moderator:  I am asking these questions, not because I am soliciting services, but because it is general info that people would want, to determine if they want a project quoted.

I am having trouble with the .22 File, and so is JawsTech, Xometry, Protolabs ect..

It looks like I can get the .177 mag rotor to $2.40 for a single unit out of Nylon12 which would be recommended for economy (Nylon11 for durability), (significant price breaks with quantity). The next closest I could find is $2.42, but the quality/functionality of the mag rotor would not have been excellent due to their preset parameters.

In the last year, I can not remember the last time that another 3D printing bureau beat or matched our price given the parameters are the same. (infill, part orientation, post processing, ect..) We do compare quotes and check frequently and the only time we are beat, we can say with 100% confidence that the quoting software encountered a bug, usually because the quote is less than half of what we would charge or something of the sort. We are one of the largest users of Nylon12 and The Largest user of Nylon11 in the world for MJF printing so our buying power is stronger than most. We also consult the client directly so see what the part will be used for to help determine the best printing practice to ensure part durability and surface finish is optimal.

I don't want to tag up this post too much with technical jargin and to keep the Mods happy. DM me if you need anymore follow up.

Thanks, Tony

I think your above price indication for the .177 mag rotor should generate some more serious interest from other GTA members.  I assumed that your prices would be high, based on the need to pay for equipment.  And I assumed that others on GTA would assume the same thing.  So, thanks for correcting my assumption.

3D Printing services for forum members.

TorqueMaster
Mechanical Engineer, honing my 3D print skills since 2019.
Lately (2021-present) focusing on airgun LDCs.

Printer in use: Creality Ender 3 Pro -- print sizes up to ~9" x 9" x 10" high
Materials: PETG, PLA, and TPU flexible filament.   Many colors available.
Resolution: Printer is capable of ~0.05 - 0.10mm (0.002-0.004") XY precision, Z layers from 0.08 to 0.40mm.
To give you some idea -- it's not unusual to print functional fine metric threads (1mm pitch.)
Critical dimensions get the attention needed to print at the desired size.
Custom design: Can be done to a limited extent -- I can CAD up almost anything, just need to be mindful of the time involved.  Free consultations ;)  I prefer to print existing designs.
Turnaround time: Usually just a couple of days for parts printed from existing design files.
Bulk orders: To a limited extent -- 3D printers are not speed demons -- I can provide time estimates for large orders.

Thank you for your consideration!
