Title: NASA FT - Berryville, AR - December 7-8th - AAFTA Sanctioned
Post by: young_skywalker on October 09, 2019, 12:04:17 PM
Exciting news GTA Folk! Several of our members have participated in Field Target events during the past year in Texas, Oklahoma and even Ohio.  Our own president has become obsessed and has painted several dozen targets that have been accumulated by our members.  The synergy of these events has kindled a new shooting opportunity!

The last Field Target matches in Arkansas were held in 2005 with Ozark FT in Berryville.  The host contacted me 3 weeks ago and after hearing of our Presidents obsessive target painting,  offered his property for NASA Field Target!  Several of our officers visited Don's property and it is a perfect location for field target.  There are two courses each with approximately 15 lanes that meander up the wooded hill.  There is a large covered building adjacent to the range that can shelter all participants if needed.  A large field extends downhill and is the perfect location for sighting the rifles in before each match.

Our first NASA FT match will be Sunday December 8th with the option of camping on site Saturday December 7th.  We are working with AAFTA to become nationally sanctioned match.  More details will be posted in the upcoming weeks.

In preparation for the event, there will be a work day at the course in Berryville on Sunday November 10th to prepare the Course.  Please attend if you are able.

Tasks are as follow:

The course is fairly clean and just needs some maintenance to get up to speed. The bulk of the work is already done!

Respectfully submitted,
Northwest Arkansas Spring gun Association

Northwest Arkansas Spring gun Association (NASA) members met on Sunday November 10th for a work day at the Matzeder Proving Grounds in Berryville Arkansas in anticipation of the first NASA sponsored Field Target match on December 8th. The first order of business was surveying the property and conceptualizing the fifteen field target lanes. After mapping out the course the work party began the physical process of clearing the lanes. As each lane was developed it was given special consideration by the team to insure that it was challenging and exciting. It was difficult work but the squad had the job complete within a few hours. NASA would like to thank the following members for their assistance: Chris Fitz, Tom King, Mike Manning, Don Matzeder, Hunter Neumaster, Terry Neumaster & Arnold Chardo Smith.

Weather is looking good for some camping and FT this weekend! We'll have a crew there finalizing the setup on Saturday afternoon, camping that evening, and planning to start the competition at 10:30am on Sunday. Looking forward to seeing some familiar and new faces this weekend.'

Here's a mini match report....

15 lanes
64 shots total
6 standing
6 kneeling
40 yards was the longest range
20.5 troyer rating

Mid 50's and overcast.  Light wind that only affected on lane.  So the difficulty factor was low, but since this was our first match, we felt that was a good thing.

6 shooters

Open piston
Arnold S. 53

Hunter piston
Brian G. 29
Chris F. 24

Hunter PCP
Mike M. 60
Ed G.  56
Terry N. 42

Here's a mini match report....

Thanks for the recap Mike! It was a great day of shooting and we certainly lucked out with the weather. Our host was ever gracious and it was really nice getting to have a match in the woods. In December. Still can't believe it!
