Was thinking about a small get together to do some shooting this spring if anyone is interested. I have room for a shooting line. Even room for people to camp out if need be. Just throwing it out there if anyone is interested. Look at map to see my location.
-
if the date works for me i'll be there. i'm about 90-100 minutes from you.
-
I'm interested too. It's close enough where we wouldn't need to camp.
-
I'll be there, just say the time and date.
Stu
-
I would definitely be interested, I'm not too far away. I didn't have anywhere local to shoot until just a few days ago, some friends about 30 minutes away said I could visit their farm anytime. Was going to go today, but not with the rain & snow that's coming. But a little meetup with other airgunners would be fun too.
-
Ok great sounds like most of you are interested and not supper far away from me. I can let you know a closer date once the weather straightens out haha. I believe we could have a 50 yards and 100/150 yard shooting lines. I have a a shooting backstop if anyone wanted to bring out big bore you could shoot them too. Wife gave the all clear...so making progress haha
-
Sounds like fun will try to make it.

Steve
You on the map?
-
I'm by Plainfield.
I drive out to Mount Morris all the time to see my Mom in 1.5 hours so i think 2.25 hour out to the shoot.
-

Is this still gonna happen?
-
I was wondering also.
I'll be out of town sailing until july, but then any time after that ill be available.
Oh, wait. I've a wedding on July 20th, and then I'll be in Montana the last week of august/first week of Sept.

Still planning on it, having a hard time keeping up with the grass this year with all the rain. If all goes well I should be able to work out a date. Wife is going to visit her dad with the kid sometime soon.this is when I am planning on having everyone out. Would every one be ok with 50 yards then later we can adjust to 100+ yards later in the day for the range? Would be a morning start and go til whenever.
-
Sounds great here Brandon.
-
👍
-
Looking good.
Steve
-
Also would depend on weather, can't do hot with my MS. Finally got yard mowed yesterday and the whole time was thinking about how to set up the range. What day of the week works for most of you?
-
Pretty flexible here, but we can't make it on the July 4th or July 13th weekends.
-
Busy july 4 and 5th, wedding august 20th, gone last week of august through first week of september.
Retired so any day of week is good.
-
Just a quick update, i was offered the opportunity to shoot at another members property. He has a nice set of different distances on his range. Biggest plus is we would be out of the heat and in a air conditioned building! Sure cant beat that offer. Aiming in on mid to late July for date.
-
That sounds great Brandon.
-
Well guy i know the title says spring and here we are in summer but i think i may need to move the shoot to fall. Right now with my health condition its just to hot outside to even leave the house safely and to have even a small places a/c keep up in this heat is hard. Is everyone with a date preferably in September? When the heat and bugs drop down hopefully. Otherwise it would be a short like week notice if there was a nice opening in august. Weather has been crazy up here in the NW, Heat indexes up to 110 today!
-
I'm with you regarding the heat Brandon. September sounds much better to me.
-
Right now any time after September 10th will work for me.
-
Got some trigger time. Figuring out how I would setup the field. Some pics below. Bit hot out today but my cousin enjoyed the ground squirrel destruction today. September is fast approaching. So weekday or weekend for a day to go. I know it will have to be after September 10th. Waterfowl season starts in September also so I will be hunting almost nonstop next month. Looking forward to having you guys over to shoot.
-
looking forward to it!
leaving for montana on the 25th. setting up the guns, checking the hide, getting the camo clothing ready, just packed the ammo: polymags, hunters, hunter extremes, hades, and 3,000 rounds of 22 lr for my daughter to play with. i'm stoked about this pesting "job" i'm doing.
oh yea, my daughter is getting married too!

Sounds like a epic time with the family, I may have multiple days that way everyone gets a chance to come out. Lots of flat land to shoot on here
-
Great looking land and shooting area there Brandon.
-
September is getting closer. Up-keeping the yard finally at a steady pace. What targets does everyone use at fun shoots? Pics from todays practice. Even the wife joined in!
-
Great pics, looking forward to the shoot.
For targets, I have some election signs for mounting paper targets and some spinners. Do you have a date picked out yet? My wife needs 2 weeks notice to get the time off.
-
I've been saving aluminum cans. I have spinners, paintballs, chalk, paper targets, knockdowns, exploding soda bottles...
-
Sorry late response, kid started school. Does the 21st of September work for everyone? Time wise I will leave up to the group. I can shoot all day. Plenty of parking out here.
-
That should work for me.
You'll have to pm me your address.
-

You'll have to pm me your address.
I will post my address soon as I know the date is ok. I am also on the gta map 😎 closest town to me in McConnell 61050, I am way out in the middle of nowhere. So make sure you bring what you need out. Town to get anything is in Freeport 61032 and that's 20-30 minutes away haha. Rockford is about 1 hour from my location to the east of me. Galena is about a hour west of me.
-
Northern folks gotta represent, I can’t make that one.
-

Sorry to hear Mark, if it goes well might do a spring one also
-

Booooo!!!
The 21st sounds good here. I'll remind Nicole to take that day off if she is scheduled to work. Is it OK if we bring our dog? She is very gun shy and would hide in the back of my truck the whole time.
-
No problem with you having your dog out Jerry. Lots of room out here and I have no dogs. Just one mini pig in a pen and some free range chickens.
-
FREE range chickens?
Are you sure you don't want a couple bucks for them? ;D
-
sounds good to me

Next year maybe. 🤣😂 We only raised 3 this year.
-
Has anyone talked to Bob H.? Hopefully him and Lilly can make it.
-
Folks,
I've been watching this thread with interest, the date doesn't work for Lilly and I. We flatlanders need to get together more often. BTW, we were at Mike Melick's shop and I bought a FWB 124 for Lilly. It is a left hand model,,, and so is Lilly.
Thank you for thinking of us.
BobH.
-
Unfortunately I won't be able to make it. Our annual church convention is that weekend. :(
-
Sorry you guys can't make it, I may try to do another in the spring also. Going to see how the first one works out here then go from there. 1st time having anything out here like this. I have a good amount of open space. Just shy of 3 acres, bonus is my nearest neighbor is a half mile or more down the road. Bonus also if you see a ground squirrel and the shooting lane is clear. Have at that little buggers. 😁

Nice!

I just picked up a new to me rifle so who’s up for a group NUAH? This gun should do great at 100+. Had to slum and put weaver T-36.

I'm in!!! Doubtful my gun are, but I'll give it a shot.
But I'll probably just be a witness to your attempt/success. I have some election signs for taping up targets way out there. What new gun did you pick up Steve?
And sorry you can't make it Bob. It won't be the same without you and Lilly, plus a timed can shoot.
-
RAW HM1000x LRT .30
And anyone can use it to try for the NUAH.
The little pill is the .177 16.2 gr that I shoot out of the Wolverine.
-
I plan on attending, any idea on times yet?
I had just finished putting FX no limit rings and zeroing the scope on my Streamline for some 100yd shooting. Did something stupid and broke the rifle. Totally my fault. Don't ask, too embarrassing. Now it's at SPAW being repaired. If the weather cooperates I may try 100 with my Marauder and just use hold over.
Looking forward to meeting you all
Stu

Haven't figured out a time exactly yet but I was planning on a afternoon into the evening shoot. Say 10 am til dark or something in that range. Adjust it as it gets a bit closer to date. I wouldn't mind getting in on 100 yard or more targets. Anyone have a air compressor that they can bring? Thinking drink and snacks will be a bring your own just to keep it simple. Dish to pass if you would like. If you have a canopy please let me know. I have a screened in shelter house. I have a extra fridge in the garage if you want to store cold drink or snacks.
-
I don't have a canopy or compressor, but we will bring snacks and/or a dish to pass.
-
@Brandon
How are you set for shooting benches? I have 2 sets of saw horses (taller than normal) that I use for moving around and a couple of stools if you need them.
-

Yea i could always use more platforms to shoot on for the event out here, all i have is one small folding table.
-
Will we be able to back a car or truck up to the shooting area? Trying to decide how much "stuff" to bring.
-
i'll bring a table and my shooting bench. i just received a hand pump today, and i should be able to borrow my daughter's canopy, some election signs and a whole lot of cardboard. i also have a rangefinder for setting up the targets.
-

Yes should be able to, address is 6539 w rink Rd Lena IL, 61048 if you would like to look at Google maps of the property. Should be able to either make a big semi circle or have multiple ranges at different locations.

Cool! Looking forward to it. I hope we get some nice weather, it's been all over the place lately.
-
I agree Jerry, I hope we get a nice cool, non windy day to shoot. I will keep a eye on the weather. Really hoping it will be a nice calm weekend 😊.

Unfortunately I won't be able to make it. Our annual church convention is that weekend. :(
To bad you can't make it, hopefully all goes well and I will have a spring shoot also.

1st test. Anyone want 1 post up the info.
-
I will type up the info tonight when I get home. Make it a invitation.
-
You can tell how slow I am at work when I hide in the little room that my engraver is in and dream up things like the name tags. So anyone that want 1 just post what you want on it. The 1 that i made was about 1.5 x 3 inches with 3/16" letters.

That would be great! We'll all be itching to shoot again after winter.

put these together this morning and working on some others. should i bring cans? is there water available or should i bring containers to fill those cans?
-
Forecast so far not bad. Little windy, but temperature seems perfect so far
-

Yes go ahead and bring a few cans. I do have water spickets on both sides of house and one in the horse shed.
-
Do we have a count yet?
-
Do we have a count yet?
So far I got about 10 or so possible shooters
-
I'm looking at the weather very closely it could be a good chance of cancellation of event and maybe move to another weekend. sorry but it's looking like it might be a stormy windy day not very good for air rifles.
-
Bit it's only 40 percent so hopefully it changes
-

Me too Jerry ! Spent all day mowing the soggy yard yesterday lol

Is there a garage, shed or barn near the shooting area that we could duck into if it starts raining?
-
Is there a garage, shed or barn near the shooting area that we could duck into if it starts raining?
There is a garage we can duck into, don't think anyone wants pig poo on them lol but there is a pig shed. I think we might be ok from the rain. Wind out here gets crazy 😵. But I am up for a challenge. 20 mph gusts are going to be a good challenge if you are going for distance. If the vast majority don't care about the rain and wind then we should be good to go. Bring bug spray!!! Fyi mosquitos out here have gone up from flooding. Also area is under several flood warnings. I am way up in elevation but please use caution while traveling this direction.
-
Event will unfortunately be cancelled for tomorrow. Storm chance has gone up to 60 percent and wind will be out of control, I will try to make a rain date soon for a date in October. Sorry guys, I don't want anyone hurt. If you can please pass the word that it has been cancelled for tomorrow due to forcast
-
good call. no sense everyone driving up there to huddle in a garage most of the day. this weather has been nuts. i'm trying to get a patio in and it won't stop raining long enough to pour.
i do most of my shooting in the winter months. easier to stay warm than dry or cool.
-
Well that saves me the call in the AM to go or not, been watching the weather and with the way it was I was about 70% not going ( 2.25 hour drive for me}. Really want to meet all so next time. Maybe more will ask for tags by then.
-
Man, last night the chance of rain was 40% for Saturday, and this morning it went up to 80% with 10-20 mph winds. Hopefully we can get together sometime this fall.
-
And watch it will be overcast and light winds.
-
i left 2 pairs of muddy boots out last night to dry because the forecast didn't mention rain. just before going to bed it began raining and did so for about 90 minutes.
Steve, where about are you? i'm in the sandwich/somonauk area. 30 minutes south of dekalb. if your down this way we could drive together. i have a pickup so room isn't an issue.
-
I'm in Plainfield about 35 miles east of you. When I go out with all my junk I fill my wife's CR-V pretty full.
-
the Wolverine and RAW each have a hard case, Regal a soft case, Full auto BB gun, range bag, air tank, 2 rests, table and chairs, spotting scope, 10x the paper targets I need, and what ever looks good at the time. That is why I love to go out with the grand-kids I sit back and they do all the work.
Steve

I see you are near Hickory Hills gun club, have I met you there before?
-
Yep at the last one. The one with a beard and the new Regal, was shooting next to Joe.
-

Ahhh, sorry for my bad memory of names. I miss that place, and Joe. Last I heard he wasn't getting any better.
-
yeah, i bring my shooting chair/table, targets, folding table, tent, air tank, 4-5 guns, and a cooler. but there's still room for more...stuff. ;)
you have a wolverine? i want one bad. just can't afford it.
i get my tank filled at Dive Right In. 90 minute round trip drive, i need a compressor, or a membership to Hickory Hills to justify the drive. ;D
-
And watch it will be overcast and light winds.
That's my kind of luck lol, would like to put another date down for October, anyone down for a rain date?
So sorry once again guys. Was really hoping the weather would hold off.
-
I’m up for almost any date.
Tater..why do you think I asked about the name tags I must be one oh the worst with names.
wolverine.....look in the long range club 1st page bottom to see my wolverine.
Steve
-
brandon, you pick a date that is convenient for you and i'll do my best to be there.
steve, thanks, i'll check it out.
-
And watch it will be overcast and light winds.
It's almost guaranteed. >:(
I filled the truck's gas tank yesterday, topped off the air tank at Ninja, took out all the guns and gear and checked cleaned it all. And Nicole was supposed to make brownies tonight to bring tomorrow. Of course I would have sampled a few tonight.

Glad I cancelled, it started pouring at 9 am Saturday morning. Wind was terrible, was blowing the chickens around 😂. Looking for a date with decent weather. What kind of notice does everyone need? Sorry you had got all readied up Jerry, I still feel bad that I had to cancel. Friday was so nice out, hopefully we can get a dry calm patch in October

Don't feel bad at all! You made the right decision and saved us all the trip. It was horrible here too and I'm sure sloppy for a fun shoot there.
Nicole needs 2 weeks notice to be sure she can get the day off. Tomorrow she will let me know the soonest weekend day she can get. Whatever works best for you we will try to make it.
-
The first weekend in October is out for me, but should be able to come any other weekend. My wife is taking 3 college courses along with having a full time daycare, so she pretty much stays home to do homework on the weekends.

The earliest we could make it is Oct. 12th as well. Any weekend after that is also good, but Nicole needs two week notice to get time off if she is scheduled.
-
Oct. 12th sounds good to me.
Steve
-
Should work for me too.
-
My only free Saturday this month is October 26th, the 12th I have to run a open house for my legion Post. 26th gives me time to get porta potty and more targets made up.

Yeah hopefully it dries out by then.....and maybe the bugs will die off. I got some bottle blast caps in the mail and I have a idea for a fun game with chicken wire and shooting clays
-

Sweet! If you are going through the expense of getting a porta potty, I think we should all pitch in a little to help pay for it.
-
Ahh no need for that, goes along with hosting a event. Hopefully it all comes together this time.
-

Oh yeah, I got some of those bottle blast caps too! I'll bring them, as I don't have too many to use them. The 26th should work for me.
-
Ahh no need for that, goes along with hosting a event. Hopefully it all comes together this time.
Set out a donation bucket, we'd be happy to pitch in.

just don't set the bucket next to the porta-john!

i also have blast caps. on 2 liter bottles filled to 135 psi with cornstarch inside some of them.

We'll have to get our pooch out of the area before those get hit.

someone put a hood on the rain God please.
-
I'll be bringing a bunch of .22 cal JSB, H&N, and Crosman pellets to sell, trade, or just share (even Hades). The JSB 18 gr and 25 gr pellets shoot the best for me, the others are just taking up space in my drawers so I'd like to get rid of them.
-
Sorry didn't see all these responses til just now. Anyone have some metal field targets that they can bring out? I have one drop target and one that auto resets when you shoot the other gong, its one of those crosman squirrels. I have shooting clay's that i will put farther out on the chicken coop wire.
-
i have a shoot to reset rabbit and an 8 paddle shoot to reset.
-
Less than a week, keeping fingers crossed. Getting excited!

Same here, so far the day isn't looking to bad. May be a tad windy but I can deal with a little wind. Long as it's not storming again it's green light to shoot. Will adjust targets so wind isn't affecting them. Corn is being harvested so on your way out please everyone watch for deer!
-
Thanks for the heads up on the deer.
Is everyone bringing their own food (sandwich...)? My wife was going to make brownies and bring some big bags of chips but I don't know what anyone is planning on. If anyone is BBQing we could bring better stuff but with the weather is hard to know what to make.
-
I have a grill i can bust out if anyone wants to grill up some food. Who is all coming out? Trying to get a idea for headcount, Got the portable toilet being dropped off tomorrow. will start putting out targets tomorrow. Parking will be in grass north of house. I will try to mark it out sometime. If you need two get a hold of me you can text me at eight one five 990 SEVEN NINE five 2. I can talk but when i am on the phone with new people i get MS brain fog and freeze up lol sorry. But if need be i can talk. I only have a hand pump for air. If someone want to bring out a pump let me know and i can run a extension cord out. Might do it anyways so everyone can charge phones and ect. Please bring something to drink, otherwise i will have cold water on hand. If you have any Medical issues the closest hospital is 25 or so minutes away. Please do not forget to bring any medications with you. Cant wait to meet all of you and perhaps do this again in spring if it works out
-
Thanks for doing this! I am planning to be there. What time should we start arriving? I almost bought a Hatsan Spark pump the other day, but then something came up (literally when I was about to hit the "order" button!) and I've had to put it to the side for now.
-
Thinking 10am would. Then go until dark or everyone decides there done shooting. Should be a good time. 10 AM Gives us time to get settled in while the heat wave hits haha. Your welcome, been wanting to do something like this for years since GTA fun shoot moved farther away 😔. Should be lots of shooting lanes available. Plenty of parking. Getting excited and nervous haha. Lanes will be facing south. Targets a few yards out to 150 ish yard in case anyone wants to stretch some. Like I said before, the 13 lined ground squirrels and any starling are fair game while here.
-
Thanks again for hosting this Brandon.
I can't move around to fast and am not an early riser so we will probably arrive a little late.
-

I know how you feel. Everyone can come and go as they please throughout the shoot. Thank you, and thank you for coming out Jerry.
-
i have 8 squirrels i could put in the crock pot if someone would like to bring buns and sides.
8 squirrels won't feed an army, but it's a start, and a good way to try it for your 1st time.
let me know, i'll have to take 5 out of the freezer today.
-
I'd be glad to bring the buns! It would be my 2nd time; I had squirrel in a stir fry about 30 years ago and enjoyed it! ;D
-
mozzarella cheese too! i'm making italian squirrel.
-
mozzarella cheese too! i'm making italian squirrel.
Did you want me to grab the cheese too? I certainly can, I'll be going to Walmart tomorrow sometime.
-
that would be great.
i had my 3000psi scuba and 4500psi scba tanks filled today. the squirrels are defrosting and i'll pack the truck tomorrow.
i also bought 500 paint balls for a little fun competition.
if someone has yarn, we can hang them at various ranges to help judge the wind.
i'm bringing my range finder to measure target distances.
-
that would be great.
Sounds good, I'll grab some. Shredded or sliced? :)
Thanks for all you're bringing!
-
I have some Paracord for hanging items. Also have a large piece of metal that I will use as a gong. Should have some paint in the garage for painting targets
-
shredded cheese works for me.
-
mozzarella cheese too! i'm making italian squirrel.
Squirrel linguine alfredo? :D
My wife is making brownies and we'll bring a couple large bags of chips. If I think of something else to get, I'll pick it up on the way.
-
I have a bunch of splatterburst stick-on targets that I'll bring along too, and maybe some boxes to stick them on. Do you need any tables & chairs? I can bring a card table & some folding chairs if needed.
-
Tables and chairs will come in handy if anyone has extra that they can bring. I have a bunch of empty pop cases that we can place out with splatter bursts on them. Bring empty plastic bottles also if anyone has them laying around. We can use the blast caps on them. If i remember today i will go to the small cheese producer down the road and get some fresh cheese to put out.

Sounds good, i'll bring a table or two, and 4-6 folding chairs.

I brought my wife to the ER early this morn and they just called a surgeon in. She is being admitted so it doesn't look like i will be attending.
If anyone is passing near Somonauk, i can run home and give you the squirrels. They are thawed, but still in the vacuum sealed bags and refrigerator.

Much better than last time 🤪. Wind will be the biggest obstacle I am guessing. But will be good practice!

:'( Hope everything is going okay. Good luck, and hope for a speedy recovery.

Yep. Forecast just revised to show winds at 5 to 15 mph. My in-laws live on a hill in central Wisconsin, so I know what that's like! We'll still have fun!

Oh, and I'll bring both of my chinese muzzle speed meters. If anyone wants to buy my 2nd one, I'll sell it for $25. I bought one from China, and it took 2.5 months to arrive. I thought it wasn't coming so I bought a 2nd one. And of course, 2 days after I ordered the 2nd one, the first one arrived. ::)

Parking will be just past my driveway. Pull into.the grass behind the house for parking. Haven't setup shooting range just yet. Can't wait to shoot!

I hope everyone stayed dry today and had fun!
We're still in the hospital. Joanie will be having surgery on Tuesday. They need to wait because of the blood thinner she's been on. (history of strokes)They are injecting antibiotics through her stomach. Dr says they will start removing the gallbladder Liproscopic, but if the infection is bad, they will open her up.
The woman new something was amiss and made sure all the laundry and dishes were caught up. She even had a bag packed!
I still scolded her for not having the lawn mowed and the firewood stacked. Slacker. ;)

Was a great turnout Carl. Sorry to hear but hoping for a speedy recovery. Going to do another in the spring. Forgot to take pictures. Hopefully Jerry or Steve or even Damian can post a few. Jeremy said hi btw. Save up some squirrel for the spring McGrew fun shoot.

Yes, we had a great time! I took a few pics and I'll post them up tomorrow. Hope everything goes well for you wife, and let her know that the firewood will be waiting for Tuesday night! LOL. Hope she has a speedy recovery, but it will likely take some time.

Thanks for the update Carl.
We had a great time and stayed dry. Thank you for having us all over Brandon. I don't think my wife took many pictures unfortunately except for our dog near the pig. Looking forward to seeing pics the other guys took.

Here are the photos I took yesterday.

Thanks for posting the pics Damon.

Thanks for pointing the pictures!

OK, I reset my password, so I'm logged in again.
Sorry to hear about Joanie, Carl. I hope she comes through OK. She is a great woman.
I told Stanzi about your chickens, Brandon, and she was kind of sad she didn't get to pet them. Next time, maybe! (and maybe she can meet Hunter, too)
Jerry, how 'bout getting the dog + pig pic uploaded from Nicole?
Here are mine. I think the versions in the Illinois Airguns Facebook group are higher resolution.

Great pics Jeremy, it was good to see you there. The pics of the chickens and the "buffet" made me smile. :D I'll post up the dog and pig pics once we upload them, haven't seen them yet.
Damon was a good sport when we made his shooting table the buffet table.
I hope your wife is OK Carl, please keep us posted.

Thank you Jeremy for posting the picture. Yeah maybe next year I will have a harness for the pig so I can bring her down to the shooting lane. She is a big cuddler haha, should have chickens again also. Tho can't guarantee the same ones pictured 😋. Glad Jerry's dog got to stretch it's legs out for a bit. Speaking of witch next year we will rotate it so we can smack that gong at 150-200 yards maybe. Great turnout for the first one. Wife already said I am ok to do another this spring.
-
Would like to thank Stu for coming out also. He is not pictured. Was looking back it's to bad that .30 was down Steve. Would of loved to send some lead downrange.
-
It was nice to meet some of you. Wish I could have stuck around and met everyone that came out. Hopefully next time.
