Hello GTA, I'm in New Zealand.
I looked online for a good air rifle forum to refer to and learn from, GTA it is.
I have a rabbit problem, so I just bought an Umarex Octane Elite .22, and in a few days when I'm off work will be breaking it in and setting up the scope. I have cheap pellets to start with, and then 3 different weight quality pellets to try out.
Once I'm happy with it my intent is to make clean kills on rabbits up to around 20metres. Priority for me is, if I'm going to shoot rabbits, I'm going to do it clean and right, and I know that using an air rifle is more demanding than using a rimfire.
The only air rifle I have previously owned was an old BSA .22 fixed barrel with cocking lever under the stock. And it was old when it was given to me back in the late '70's. Loved that thing.
I have some rimfire and centerfire experience, on the range and on rabbits/possums/goats, also did pistol club for several years. For me shooting has always been an enjoyment thing and for pest control, rather than the pursuit of competitive precision. Meaning I can shoot, but only averagely well.
Then I got older, married, kids, fat and tired, other priorities in life, and haven't had a firearm or license for over a decade, and that's all good with me.
Except for these durn pesky rabbits plaguing our new 7 acres of paradise.
