bought a air gun at bass pro shop (Guidehawk 22) which included a center point 3-9x32 scope. $75.00 (after mail in rebate) tried to set the scope got it good at 40ft 1" group in 3 shots. next day took 5 shots at 50ft , shots were all over the place grouping 8" at 50ft. did i make a bad buy? I check the mounts, tight, didnt change the zoom and used a bench to hold steady . next i removed the scope and put on a $5 red dot scope. reset the adjustment and the grouping stated within 1" in 50 ft . is this the best it gets? are scopes sloppy in side? does the gun need to be "broken in"? thanks for any help.

Have you cleaned the gun? What pellets are you shooting? It May take several hundreds of pellets before it settle, my browning x-blade is like that, starting to group real god now after about 500 pellets, and finding the right pellet may take some time, cause the gun can change what it wants after some time, so cleaning and shoot a bunch of different pellets to se what works is a good start

Not knowing your level of experience it it hard to say much about the accuracy or consistency. You knew enough to tighten screws - that's a good start. Did you tighten the stock screws when you checked the scope? Have you cleaned the barrel yet? How many different pellets have you tried?
I don't know if a one inch group at fifty feet is the best it gets. I think a half inch group at fifty feet may be approaching the best you'll get without a lot of practice.
You got a pretty good deal but you did not purchase a high end airgun. The trigger is probably very stiff and will need work to bring out the best in the gun. You can do a lot of tinkering to improve them. How much tinkering and what you expect from the gun are really decisions you must make.

I'm betting its the cheap scope compounded by the harshness of a springer

Also a rough heavy trigger will add to the accuracy issues. It has been my experience that the less expensive springers need some home grown TLC to bring out the best performance from them. Good luck and shoot safe

Springer airguns can be
very
sensitive to how you hold them. Do a search for "airgun artillery hold" and see if that helps you any. Don't hesitate to experiment to see what hold technique works best for you- nothing is written in stone. One example is my Gamo Shadow 100- convention says it should like the artillery hold but it shoots best for me when held more firmly- about the same as my rimfire rifles.

like peviously mentioned, a good trigger will help. learn about the artilery hold, but don't count it as gospel...just a place to start. some springers and nitro pistons are very hold sensitive. try different holds and when you find one that is good..do it exactly the same each time. consistancy is a vital key to good accuracy, no matter what you are shooting. try a variety of pellets some places like pyramid have samplers some guys like,.the scope that comes in package deals is usually junk, but sometimes servicable.
just keep at it

its that junk scope. the 3-9x32 centerpoint is known for begin bad after 100 shots.. while the x40 seems to hold up better.
also make sure the main pass through pivot bolt is tighter than a superheros costume.
1" at 50 is not bad!
breakbarrels are hard to be accurate consistently at first.. my first week i had 2 1/2"constantly at 17yard until i changed pivot plastic bushing to metal and held rifle a little tight on my shoulder.. and a new scope that held zero.

they get stuck inside and they don't make a good sound in blender according to grandma her cousin said the papaya had hard seeds and she never seen that but tasted great!
may they rest in peace!

heres a rebate for that gun .. call it a scope refund of $25
CGHNP82WX Benjamin GuideHawk NP .22 caliber $25.00
https://www.crosman.com/general/rebates
coincidentally i qualify for a $50 rebate on my Phoenix NP2!! yay
nay.. its for .177 i got .22 oh well.
i think that is the older non CBR trigger so u can try the rc car bearing mod to make it a good trigger under $5
try a leepers or hammers.. maybe a bushnell if u find cheap!
i luv my bushnell unreported springer rated, i bought it on a hunch of few old timers in here and sure enough its perfect on my NP2

I almost bought one yesterday as a target of opportunity. Please keep us updated. I did a bit of searching on the Crosman site and I think it's a restocked Genesis (similar model number at least). Is the barrel sleeve cosmetic, or does it have baffles?

Now that I have had a bit of time to check it out...
The Benjamin GuideHawk NP looks EXACTLY like my Crosman Genesis NP I paid $165 for when they first came out. I watched the price drop to $120 and almost bought another. BUT they had an reported issue. The Picatinny rail was crooked... very hard to sight in, if at all.
I originally blamed the supplied cheap CP scope and mounted a Hawk 3-9X40 SD and still had trouble, sent the scope back to Hawke and they re-zeroed it and I remounted it using different rings and a slight "force" to cant it to the left before tightening the screws.
Now she is a straight shooter with a CDT III trigger
I wonder if the Genesis got such a bad rap they took the inventory, renamed it and are selling it at Bass Pro as the "Benjamin GuideHawk NP" as that is the
only
place I find it listed. Not even on the Crosman site.
I have my concerns to say the least.
