Pellet Probe Mods?
«

I've read about the need for this mod, to fully optimize air flow, but have found very little online in terms of instructions. I know folks have different ways of doing it. I know it's important to not adversely affect pellet loading / not cause any deformation of the projectile.
Of course, the chamber also has to stay sealed everywhere but the barrel, and that part confuses me. I can't quite visualize what it all looks like in there, when the probe is locked forward.
Does anyone have an url for a good explanation / method?
---------------------------
Also: Would it be enough to just file a slightly flat area on the "left" and "right" sides of the probe tip? - Or would that actually let air escape into the surrounding area of the breech?

I made you a quick diagram that should help, hopefully. Yes, you can just thin the sides of the probe. You'll want to make it where it is thinner on the part that sits over the barrel port. You can still leave the tip of the probe full diameter, and that will also help when seating pellets too. I hope that helps.

Thanks, Donny. That's very clear.
I also see now there's no worry about air escaping.
THANKS !

There was several posts on the Crosman forum site that tested several different styles/types of bolt probes,
I cannot find the info right now, but the posts figured out that a certain type of probe design did the best etc.
Still looking...............
FOUND IT.........................

Thanks, Don.
I'd love to see those results, but no graphs or videos show on my computer. Maybe you have to be a member of that forum.
I did see a very interesting video on da' Toob, when some guy tested the HUMA FX probe vs the stock probe. He looked at both speed and accuracy.
IIRC, speed went up across the board, as expected, but accuracy was only good at higher spring settings. Accuracy also improved with heavier pellets.
Well, you can always dial-in the gun differently. I can see no downside to increasing air flow, unless you are deforming the projectiles.
But I'm just guessing....
I did some mild filing on my probe last night (my xfer & barrel ports have been drilled and ovaled) My chrono is still broken, so I don't have numbers yet, but I see no change in 34 gr .25 slug accuracy.
One interesting thing - The SOUND the gun makes is noticeably different. I think it's a hair louder, but the pitch is deeper and so less annoying. Once I have a working chrono, I'll see if I can even dial-back the spring a bit, which of course will make things even more quiet.
