Title: 20mm 1700gn Hollow Point Bullet designed for Project 2020 Super Big Bore
Post by: jkingsouthafrica on March 16, 2019, 09:40:29 AM
African Air Ordnance  have begun the Digital build on CAD of Project 2020 Super Big Bore  and  so we decided to jump ahead and make the bullet for the rifle to help with the design process .
Project 2020  is a inline Super Big Bore  with a 3 shot mag in 20mm and 5 shot mag in 50 cal

Got anything bigger?

I don't know about your country but in my country squirrels are scrappy.

Finally something interesting, you started with light projectiles first?
How big of a bottle and valve are you planning to use?

Light?.... That is a pretty hefty SD, at 0.389.... I know they are unlikely to get the kind of energy you were getting with your bullets designed for Helium.... but I looked back through the Project Fury thread and never saw anything above 700 fps using air (except for Sabots).... Perhaps they simply want higher velocities without using Helium?....

Actually its more to do with the 3 Shot Rotatory Mag design we are going to use

Err slight sarcasm there Bob,
And I have shot the 117 gram bullets with air at around 265m/s it's slightly over 700fps eh?
That was last season.

But enough of me, Jeremys build is interestin. Some sketches would be fun, the rotary mag sounds interesting although I don't find any use for it in 20mm.

Jeremy

Holy Snackbar..........

I am not sure if the weights are in grains or grams, so I used grains,
7000 grs per pound = 4 bullets per pound,  :o

I hope you have a lead mine close by, as you are going to need it. LoL

I am following this, and hope you can provide the spec's for this air gun,
and you have a bases for anything smaller..........

Great info so far, keep up the good work.

Tia,
Don

My apologies, Marco, I didn't see that in your thread, I guess I missed that.... but 117 g. is only 6% heavier than his bullets.... If you shot his bullets, your gun might be able to hit 900 fps with them on air.... but after all, your gun IS pretty extreme....

Your "Fury" is a wonderful achievement.... but definitely a benchrest gun, no?.... and I say that with all possible respect....  8)

Perhaps Jeremy is thinking of something a bit more compact.... and having a 3-shot mag. for hunting makes sense to me.... I'm thinking possibly the only thing they may share is the bore size, otherwise they may be very different animals.... It makes perfect sense to make a bullet of a weight that you think may suit the FPE of the gun you plan, just as you did.... JMO, of course....

First let me say my goal with this Platform is not to compete with Markos rifle   .  next 2020 is been built as a platform  so that shooters will be able to have one frame that can  go for 257 up to 20mm if they so choose   .  We  are going to be making calibre change options so that our customers only ever have to buy one rifle  that they then are not limited by its calibre     The first group of rifles we are building will be 20 mm   but will also have 50 cal   production versions going out with 5 shot mags  then as time goes on we will put out calibre change options .
All trigger , Safety  are based on the AR15 lay out  however  cocking levers and trigger safety will be able to be switched to suit both left or right handed shooters .   Any aftermarket  AR15 pistol grip  and rail  attachments will be able to be fitted
We are also making all our own Calibre change options   including different barrel length , muzzle breaks  and suppressors for the smaller calibres
We are not going to mass produce     year one 10 to 20  units    the year two  50 to 100  units   and then grow from there .
Also we not looking to put this on the market at a super high price   as far as big bores go

No worries Bob, now that I think of it I might have posted it in some other thread or only in our Finnish forum.

You have some work ahead of you for sure Jeremy, those are some impressive goals you have.
From 20mm to .257 on a same frame is not going to be easy. Are you planning on using the same valve?

Nice!  Also what are you shooting at that you thought "You know, a 20mm hole is not enough, we need these to expand!"  ???

No 257 and 308 will have the same valve   and after that each calibre will have its own valve

I can assure that is the only possible way to shoot with the beast. Maybe from shoulder but in that case shooter needs to seek the gun from some bush behind.  ;D

But then, it is amazingly accurate bench rest gun. Marko was shooting an old mobile phone again and again through the same hole. No, aim lower, aim lower...
