Title: Ruger Air Magnum in 22
Post by: Paul68 on March 08, 2012, 06:13:32 PM
I was under the impression the RAM was 177 only? If so pardon my brain stutter. PA is listing a RAM with 1200 FPS in 22 cal.

It's not in stock yet. Looks like they added a .22 cal. Still over a month before it's in stock.

Hmmm, lots folks wanting a 22 cal RAM, Mike goes to China, a short while later, a 22 cal RAM appears slated for arrival in stores.  ::)

I am sorely tempted to preorder, but trying to discipline myself till I can throw the cash for a Mach 12.5.

Listed as 1200 FPS, so realistically more like 800-850?

It's only $20 less than Mike has the B28's listed for and those come with a nice wood stock and a lube tune.  He can also sweeten up the trigger.

Yes they are making the mag in .22 rifles today at the factory, don't know when they will ship but they are on the way....figure 900 or better depending on pellet.

I would be interested if it had a wood stock instead of that toy plastic. But I have my B28 .22 from Mike so I am happy. Was shooting my RAM about an hour ago and I am still amazed at doing 30 yard clover leafs and hole in hole shots.

I'm glad the .177 came out first, given the choice of calibers i'd have chosen .22 and would have missed out on the amazingly fast and accurate .177.  It pushes 1000fps using 8 gr. Pellets and like mike said, does true cloverleafs, has pcp-like accuracy. If the .22 holds true to its brethren, it'll be a fine addition to the RAM family. Glad they are finally bringing it to us.

I left the .22 cal on my B28. Didn't want to mess with a good thing. That RAM is such a drill that I wont even clean it in fear it may change. The other 2 have some POI changes with temps and I am leaning towards the CP scopes being the issue. I think I need another UTG EZ-Tap Swat scope with a UTG drooper mount.

In the new Predator Extreme magazine they announced the .22 RAM.  I had a .177 RAM that I got for Christmas but I sold it.  It was very accurate, tuned by Shadow, but I just never liked .177 magnum air rifles. Now a .22 one would have been fine, but I have a RWS 350 already.

I'm guessing if you wait awhile, you'll be able to get them at under $150.  That is if you don't jump on them right off.

You may have a wait for the .22's, minor glitch at the factory. They ran out of the right pellets for testing and the inspector has to wait for them to arrive. Wait will be around two months or so I think...I was there during testing and they will be hammers...while you wait get a 28...don't ya love poetry

Ugh. I was pretty well set on getting one soon as available.

Thanks Mike.

2 month waiting for pellets? Musta been a run on lead over there keeping all  paint manufacterering exporters in supply. :).                                                                        Anyone think the .177 might be more inherently accurate on account of the pellet leaving that vibrating barrel sooner? Trying to figure out how this .177 can possibly be so accurate..  Did groups in the first 50 shots(ram) that thousands of shots out my rws 350 mag never could attain.

I joked about it earlier, but I'm seriously wondering... Did you put a bug in their ear regarding a 22 cal Ruger Air Mag over there Mike?

Isn't a RAM .22 a B28 anyway?  Speaking from lots of magnum experience I'd want a tuned one from Mike!  Magnums are harsh to shoot at first and take awhile to break in.

Why will it take them 2 months to get pellets for testing? Don't they make the testing pellets there in China? I mean China's a big country but 2 months to get something from (even) one end to the other?
What are the pellets, on a slow boat from the US?   ;)

I would rather have a wood stock B28 than a synth stock RAM. As for the .177 being accurate because it's leaving the vibrating bbl faster? YOu could just cut the bbl down a little so the pellet leaves even faster yet. All mine are cut except the RWS34P.

yep mike you talked me into cutting my ram down 6months ago,and it is still a very accurate and powerful 177cal,i would like a 22 barrel for it just to see how the power plant would do,it is a unique rifle for sure, has way to much power.hehe

ST77, you could get a .22 B28 and have what you want. If the power isn't the same just swap the BBL to the RAM and see if there is a difference. Stephan Archer is selling XS-28 (B28) for 149 new http://www.@#$%^.com/Xisico-XS28M-Air-Rifle-p/xisicoxs28.htm (http://www.@#$%^.com/Xisico-XS28M-Air-Rifle-p/xisicoxs28.htm) or you can wait to see if the RAM makes it to .22 cal, or buy a BBL from Mike Melick.

Have him chop and crown it for you before sending out. That way you get the pro crown job from the beginning.

I have been bugging the importer for the .22 barrels so they may have finally gotten through to Umarex and got the .22 RAM coming. The two month wait will be due to shipping time and getting the rifles out to distributers for release. Just hope it all goes well for them as these can be nice rifles. Next thing will be to get the factory to put the top hat and fitted guide and get rid of the piston liner, the big boss liked the ones I showed them so it could be coming after they use up all the parts in the inventory...

I figure with the lube job and shipping included in my price i should still give Archers a run for their money.

Mike do you think they might consider a wooden stock for the RAM? I like the RAM because of the Weaver rail and no droop. Both my 28's have droop but the RAM didn't have any. I was able to put a wood stock on my RAM and it really makes a difference on how it shoots.

That is something that needs to be taken up with Umarex, start bugging them and they might put the wood on. As I can get the wood stocks they are available...just have to swap them out for the plastic...

That's a good option to know about. Those stocks are not really that expensive. Just have to remember to get the trigger guard too, since it is molded into the plastic one.

Dmike,

One thing I gotta ask, did you work on that stock yourself?   That does NOT look like an ordinary stock, even the 350 stock.

Nice looking setup, just doesnt look like you simply chopped the bbl and threw a stock on, that looks refinished.

God bless,

Farmer

@Paul68 The stock is from a B28 that cracked at the fore end screws on me. I fixed it up and stippled the checkering out.

 @VAFarmer,
Thanks Farmer, yes I did all the work on the stock, I had to fix a small crack and wanted to darken it up a little but found the checkering had filler in it so I did a quick stipple on the checkering and sunk in a dowel in the wrist grip area to prevent a future mishap, you can see the work I did on it here.
