Any kind of Oak will have some amount of tannin in the wood which would cause rust. Poplar, maples, purple heart, beech, myrtle, birch(laminant cut), and walnuts is your best bet. Some of these are expensive but in the are worth working with.
I'm planning to make a rifle stock, it will be a laminate.I think one of the woods will be Poplar ( but much depends on what I find )I don't want to use expensive woods because I might well screw it up so I don't want to lose to much money I there woods that shouldn't be used ? ...what about Red Oak ?
