My D460 with factory spring and a new Vortek seal was giving me just under 800 with 14.66 FTTs, but also seemed to have a little spring drag in the last . 1/3 of the cocking stroke, so I ordered a new spring from ARH, for use in many rifles from the 48 to.the 460.New spring is 3.35mm, 30 coils and about 1" longer than the old one fresh out of the bag. Old spring is 31 coils and 3.2mm for reference.Cocking is now nice and smooth, and shot cycle is very nice, but velocity has dropped to around 710fps with pellets from the same tin. Very few rounds shot through it. Maybe 25. No apparent dieseling with either spring, and we didn't add any lube whenn we made the switch.I'm wondering why such a large difference, and if leaving the rifle cocked for a few hours night make a difference. But mostly I'd like to understand what I've done to make such a dramatic change.Thoughts and experiences welcome!
That is the ARH shtick! He wants people to note all of the improvements in handling, but doesn’t tell you that the gun is now severely under powered. Since most do not chronograph, he gets away with it and I would assume most folks are happy. Been there done that on my D52. He will adamantly tell you that he sent a factory equivalent spring and that NOBODY EVER has complained about the loss of velocity. Then he will insist that you must have assembled the gun incorrectly. NEVER AGAIN!Best of luck, Mike
Hi Hector.I used the same spring guide, which had a similar fit vs the previous spring - just a little smaller. There wouldn't be any spring drag for instance.
