The Mercury has a “swept back”, strongly curved trigger, really close to the grip, unlike on any of my German guns. But this is the way the Brits want theirs, from what I’ve seen in the way of custom triggers there. My hands are barely average in size, but I have never felt that German springer triggers were too far forward, or “for people with huge hands”, as one British master tuner described. Apparently there’s a British trigger tradition that is simply different. A striking feature of the Mercury is that the trigger guard is attached to the stock by two tiny, angled grub screws that apparently double as trigger adjustment screws! The rear of the action is secured to the stock by a long bolt that goes through the grip, again at an angle. Foreign concepts ready for exploration…
