I shot short range Silhouette yesterday at Baypoint, CA.
Those targets are normally used for air pistols and are restricted to 12fpe to protect the targets.
My recently tuned TX200 (using the factory kit) was shooting a steady 12fpe but….
Somewhere between the chickens and the turkeys it appears the rifle went to 14fpe.
When I got to the rams they were falling faster than the chickens.
Since the build I have shot somewhere between 750-850 rounds so I guess it is broken it:

Interesting, Frank.
When you fitted the factory spring, did you note the preload? Just trying to get my head round what's going on inside export TX200s - all ours are sub-12 ft. lb.

Jim
When first took the gun apart (which had been shooting at 900fpe/15.5fpe) no top hat came out.
I saw that there was a top hat in the kit so I tried to put it in with the new spring, etc.
No go.
Left it out.
Put the spring in without the new top hat.
830fps.
Hmmm
Took it apart again and smacked the piston on a piece of wood.
The top hat came out but I saw that it was installed backwards.
The narrow portion that goes into the spring was facing the other way which I am sure has to increase the pre-load.
I inserted the top hat correctly and the gun went together very easily.
Touched off a few rounds…805fps/12fpe.
I printed up some new drop data and shot an FT match with those numbers and two short range silhouette matches before the speed increased to 850 this past Sunday.
When shooting on Sunday I could tell by the way the animals were being smacked and the increased recoil sensation that something indeed was going on in the compression chamber.
So I did the chronograph thing yesterday and again printed up some new drop data.
In two weeks, we will see but, to be up front with you, I am soon to be 77 years old.
I shoot 50% hunter field target on a good day so my results may not be of any importance.

Frank,
I have smacked not a few TX200 pistons (out of rifles belonging to the local HFT club members) on the work bench to remove the factory piston weights/top hats that they swore blind weren't in there!
For yours to be fitted back to front is a new one on me; it would increase preload as you say, but leave the front of the spring unsupported, which isn't ideal.
It is not unusual for a rifle to gain a little muzzle energy as it runs in, but two foot pounds after a tin and a half of pellets must be some kind of record.

I hear you.
Recoil is a bit more vicious now, too.
Last week I could put the rifle on two sandbags with a pellet on the vertical knob.
Pull the trigger and the pellet doesn’t move.
(See video below).
14fpe and the pellet jumps off of the knob..
