Title: TX200 MK2 piston in MK3?
Post by: Pierre Toutant on October 31, 2022, 10:28:29 PM
Question.....would fitting a MK2 piston and compression tube into a MK3 cause any issue? My thoughts are that it may be a way to shorten the stroke in a MK3. Any thoughts or experience with this? The MK2 piston has a longer piston rod than that of the MK3. So, that would seem that it would be a simple way to shorten the stroke.
Thanks for any input.

I guess no body knows anything about this.......thanks just the same.

Over the pond dropping a mk2 piston in a mk3 was the thing to do until all the old pistons were no longer available.  Alternatively, Chambers or somebody (?) sold or sells longer piston rods that apparently work well.
I've been meaning to do that one of these days but last time I checked whomever offered them was "out of stock".

Thank you Artie.

Yes, either Airgun Spares or Chambers, I can't remember at the moment. One of the two still sells new TX200 MK2 pistons and has them in stock. So.....I guess it will work and have the desired result of shortening the stroke in a MK3?

A few years ago when I was doing some occasional custom work I made a couple "short stroke rods" for a TX200 piston.

I've made longer latch rods for a TX200 piston in the past (no longer do so) but it shouldn't be a big deal for someone with a lathe, measuring/machining skills, a factory latch rod "go-by", and the required "extra length". The "latch end" was turned and the other end screwed into the piston head. I don't remember the thread pitch but standard M10 has a 1.5mm pitch............

The latch rod was made of 10mm O1 tool steel and the "catch end" was hardened and tempered after machining and was screwed into the piston head using Red LocTite............

...so I hear (other than the notches). I don't think it was a show stopper with the bear trap but it did change engagement if I recall correctly.

I have two Mk.3 TX200s fitted with piston rods that reduce the stroke to 85mm, as do friends at our HFT club. The anti bear trap still works, but only engages with the last notch. With the factory 5.27 N/mm springs and 41mm of preload, they deliver circa 11.4 ft. lb. with 8.4 grain pellets, and win a lot of HFT competitions.
