Have a look at this target set...

Especially note the two bulls at the bottom. The one on the right was not to bad if you ignore the 'flyers'. The one on the left is out to lunch. You might see a pattern that most of the targets on the right and center were better than the ones on the left.
Shooting a springer at about 33 yards. I have noticed this before I will get the scope zeroed on a bull then move on to the next and it is no longer zeroed?
Same distance, same pellet, same gun, same scope, same hold. What gives?
Oh forgot to add the scope is a Hammers 4-12x40 AO

Are they RWS pelelts ? half joking as they shoot a little better for me ..
Have you ...
Adjusted the AO until the image was clear, not to the markings on the wheel ?
cleaned the barrel ?
checked all the screws ?
tried different pellets ?
Are you shooting off hand or rested ?
If rested - solid rest with no wobble ?

It would kinda help if us folks to know what gun and/or pellets you are shooting. I would start with a different pellet and go from there from the looks of things. Also start at 10yds and shoot till you get the results you are looking for and then work your way out gradually. Patience and practice goes a long way. Geoff's check list is a start as well.

Yea I should have mentioned all that.
The rifle is a Benjamin Mayhem NP2 in .22 cal. The shots were from a bench off a bag with artillery hold.
About the pellets, I have tried many different pellets through this gun and by far the H&N FTT 14.66 gr perform the best.
Pretty sure the stock screws are tight as I check them often. Cleaned the barrel a hundred rounds or so ago.
Even with all those variables it still does not really explain why targets to the left are awol and the ones to the right are 'fair'. I even tried switching back and forth between the two targets in a string.

I had a Benjamin that only shot the copper coated lead pellets , everything else scattered, I gave it away with a 1/4 tin of the copper coated and a full tin of the CPHP .22

Not to sound snarky, but those "groups" are terrible. My Trail NP2 will hold 3/4" at forty yards with no problem. I shoot off a bag with a medium firm hold. It's either the gun, or you may need several hundred shots of practice. It took me several tins before I could shoot mine that well. With practice, they will get smaller. One of the main things to remember is follow through. Try to watch the pellet all the way to the target through the scope. This does help.

Your absolutely right Ken they are pretty bad. Some of that was due to 'adjusting' the scope, a few were just kind of random shots when I was doing a 'tissue test' but still pretty poor.
I got to do some more "testing" yesterday. After cleaning the barrel then shot with open sights at 50 feet and it was not too bad for me for open sights. I then put on the scope and surprisingly it was about the same as the open sight group??
I then moved it out to 100 feet and tried some open sight shots and they were not so great but at that range I can berely make out where the shots are landing
So I put the scope back on and after about 60 rounds it started to tighten up some, but still not really good maybe 2" group.
So last night I tore the gun down again to inspect things and did not find much of any signifigance except that the piston has been rubbing on the extreme aft end in one spot. So I reversed the gas spring and re-assembled. It cocks and 'feels' good but have to wait for a day where it is not raining to stretch things out.

I just like to blame the gun and not the shooter
. I am more likely to blame the barrel than the engine of a rifle, most seem consistent enough, but a bad barrel or issue with the crown, etc , and pellet preference account for so much frustration. Some are better shooters out of pure luck and some guns are just hard to shoot. If you are good with iron sights at 20 and your scope/mount has no issues it can be barrel lockup. Using a scope will show this as the iron sights are always on the barrel regardless of the barrel angle and such. And in the winter, if you are shooting with a puffy jacket, this can make the gun bounce around more if you are not used to it, especially if you are changing your point of aim (right to left on target) and the tension on your shoulder unknowingly. I would practice with one spot on the target about the size of a dime and try pulling the rifle into your shoulder more with your non trigger hand.

I have a gun that the bore looked like it was polished with 80 grit sandpaper, it shot groups like that, see my Bear River TPR review.
