Okay folks, it's time to get serious about this years event. :)
We are gathering info from you to help make it a success as usual. Hopefully the weather will cooperate better this year!!!
The event will be "officially" 19-21 May at the Gallatin County Fairgrounds in Glencoe, KY. I'll roll in early, probably Tuesday 15th to get started prepping. Anyone is welcome to come early to just hang out, help set up or do some shooting. I'll list more the information soon but for now we have to get started on a count of folks that will attend. We will reserve a block of rooms at the Ramada Sparta and will have a discount code for our members to use.
I am attaching a poll to get a head count of those that will most likely attend and who will need a room reserved at the Ramada. The discount code last year made the rooms $69 per night, an excellent rate. I also need to know if you need an RV slot. Vendors, I need to know who are coming and planning to set up in the concession area. ONLY our preapproved vendors will have reserved spots. Any that show up unannounced will have to wait and see what room is left. We want to fit everyone in but must make consideration for our GTA vendors that reserve in advance.
We will have a most excellent time as usual. Please help us out by filling in the poll.
Also, I will be placing an order for shirts again. Take a look at the previous posts about shirts and give me an idea of number of shirts, T-shirt or Polo, sizes, pocket or not and color choices.
Okay, just off the phone with Jeff at Ramada Sparta. We are set up for the discount code so you can start calling for your reservations.
Be aware that they are 100% non-smoking rooms. They have offered us rooms at $69 per night which is excellent. It's a better rate than any advertised on their site.
https://www.wyndhamhotels.com/ramada/sparta-kentucky/ramada-sparta-ky/overview (https://www.wyndhamhotels.com/ramada/sparta-kentucky/ramada-sparta-ky/overview)
Don't make reservations online,. please call. Tell them you are with the GTA group and you have a choice of a king size bed or a room with two queen size. Your choice.
Call (859)567-7223. If the person on the phone has any issues or problems, ask to speak to Jeff, the manager.
See you guys there!!!!
And until then...
SAFE & Happy Shooting!!!!
Dave

I got a kitchen pass from the misses, working on a truck pool to get two other members to go with....

Hope I spelled their handles correctly....
-
I told one person I probably would not be able to make it, another threatened me if I didn't. All I can say is I will try. The wife says she will not go with me and if I do she and Sancho need me to leave all my credit cards at home. :(

Nope, Grimeszee

I am going to be there. Going to an RC aircraft meet in SC that week but will leave that Friday and be at the shoot for the weekend. Bringing my wife and another shooter with me.
-
I'll be there again this year.
-
Sounds like something I'd like to try and go to. I'm new to the fourm and this is the first I've herd of this shoot. Can yall inform me what exactly goes on? I'm very familiar with the extreme benchrest but don't know anything about this shoot
-
I'm a newby here but I intend to attend. I retired last year and have the time. Its a long drive fron Vermont, but I have the airgun bug bad, and can't wait to mingle and learn from the experts.
-
Good to hear we have fresh meat....er...new members coming to experience our event. It's not like any other event, IMO. It's more like a family reunion with airguns thrown in. :)
Take a look at the link in my opening post for 18 pages detailing last years event. And you can search the forum, we have threads from each year with photos. It really is a great time to meet and greet, buy, sell, trade, shoot, eat, laugh, lie and just enjoy yourself. Lots of donated raffle items to buy tickets for and door prizes will be given away. I'll have GTA paraphernalia for sale like shirts and caps. You can show your GTA pride and help spread the word of our airgun community.
Come on out!!!
-
Sounds like fun. Is it an indoor or outdoor range? And what yardages are gonna be shot? And is there different classes?
-
LOL
I know it's you're first time and have lots of questions. But the answers to these and many more questions are in the threads of past events. With plenty of photos too. It is a covered outdoor range, we erect tents to set tables under. Bring your shooting tables, chairs and bags too. We have as far as we what, to shoot. We have targets generally set from 10-100 yards. And have a hillside we have been known to plant targets at 300 or so yards for the show offs. LOL
Or Big Bore folks.
We will have some friendly shooting competitions and we have our annual paint ball shoot. Springers at 25 yards, PCP (up to .25cal) at 50 yards and Big Bore (.257 and larger) out at 100 yards. Top two in each of these classes win trophies and prizes. Usually in the form of gift certificates. Can't say for sure yet, I haven't solicited the vendors.
:)
But please check out the previous years posts. You will see and learn a lot from those.
-
I plan on going and will need a room.
Richard
-
Save a trailer site for me!
pv
Ps- Dockey454 is tentatively coming. Won't know if he has a conflict until last minute.
-
I've got everything in order to come, but I will book a hotel room elsewhere (so I can get it free. ;D )
Dez, this is the year you outshoot Travis on the paintball sudden death, right???
I will also likely be getting a polo or two, but I will PM you on that after I have a chance to look back through the details.
-
I am planning to attend, and most likely will be camping. I have yet to talk things over with my brother, TheRRDon, but we may travel up together. I am really looking forward to meeting the guys I have been swapping electrons with for the last year or so. Depending on my brother's plan's, and what we work out with OleTomCat's crew, I may travel early to help with set-up
-
Hi guys. This will be my first airgun shooting and I am looking forward to it. I will be reserving a room and if anybody has a map of location (I'm coming from Florida) would be very helpful. Hope to see you there.
Anthony
-
Hey Anthony, good to hear. Even though we call it a Fun Shoot/Airgun Show, it's not a commercial event like a full blown show. We like to have our GTA vendors there if they want, to meet and greet. Since it's more of a FUN SHOOT, we like to get them out on the firing line with us to sling lead. It's really a fun shooting adventure. When I give more details (and can be found in the other posts) I'll give the address and you can plug it into your GPS or smart phone. I'm sure we will have some folks coming from your neck of the woods you might be able to caravan. Our buddy David (Rocker1) and his lovely wife are driving up from Eustis, FL.
Anyway, we will make sure you have proper directions. It's fairly easy, it's right off the interstate and very close to the KY Speedway.
-
Putt and I will be there. We would like to reserve a couple of tables. We'll call Ramada and make reservations. Dennis Baker Baker Airguns

Have you decided what kind of shooting it will be? Im too shakey to do anything but bench.
Nevermind, i just read ezmans explanation, thanks EZ
-
Fun Shoot...just about any kind you want. LOL
If you have and can bring them, lug your table and chairs as well as any shooting bags, rests or shooting sticks. Anyone that has good stout targets you are welcome to bring those too. Be advised they will be shot up...LOL.
Again this year we are going to try and set the range up according to airgun fpe. That way we can preserve the targets as long as possible.
-
Good deal Dennis. I'll reserve you two tables in the vendor area. And hold off a bit if you want for booking. I'm getting them to block off some, from the attached poll, and getting a GTA discount code for us. Will post it as soon as I can. Will be great to see you guys again this year. Missed you last year partially due to weather.
-

Tommy do come. There will be a few shaky old fellers ;D there and it would be great to meet you and other new faces in person.
-
Im too shakey to do anything but bench.
Welcome to the club, Tommy. I've hit that age, too, and nursing a torn rotator cuff to boot (left shoulder). That's OK, Bench rest is good, in a pinch, kneeling works, and when all else fails.... prone supported ;)
David
-
I'd like to try and go. I'll let you know soon if I need a room reserved. Me and my brother would like to try and go but we ain't really got benchrest or supper accurate rifles lol. I'd be bringing my R10 mk2 .22 and he'd be using his marauder .25
-
Sounds like a fun time. How do you sign up? I would want an RV site too.
thanks
-

thanks
Patrick,
Did you answer the pole? Then show up with guns, tables, etc...
-
Patrick, just add to the poll above so I will have a head count of how many RV spots and campsites we will need. I believe we have 22 hookup sites available and getting one shouldn't be an issue. Hargis has said again that he has scheduling a gun show at the same time down the hill from us at the new event area. So I'm not sure at this point if the pb gun show is still happening and if they will be needing RV spots. I'll check and go ahead and speak for a few.
Levi, one of the many good things about this event is if it can sling a pellet, bring it. You will have fun. And most folks are very glad to let you handle and shoot their airguns. If you see one you would like to try out, just ask. Our folks are the finest kind and most are proud to let you shoot their pride and joy.
:)
I usually bring 10-20 myself but I'm lucky to find time to shoot one or two. LOL
If I'm around and you want to shoot one of mine, you are very welcome!!!
-
Sounds like a blast! I plan on going! Would love to meet some airgunners other than my self. Not really anyone around here.

I will be there Right now I am shopping for a light weight pop up Camper I have plenty of camping gear and will load up the camper and haul with my Mustang ;) ;D ;D ;D.
Even if I can't find a decent used camper, then I will do it old school with a tent and gear packed in car and hope for good weather I hate camping on the ground in the wet :o ::) ;D ;D

thanks
Patrick,
Did you answer the pole? Then show up with guns, tables, etc...
I did answer the pole. I could be able to show up early and help out. How much do the rv sites cost per night?
thanks
-
RV/campsites are no charge. There is no cost to attend our annual event. Just your expenses to travel, stay and eat. There is no charge to our vendors for tables. It is a GTA gathering, not a money making event. We do accept donations of cash or merchandise. The cash donated will go toward the expenses of the event and items donated will either be used as door prizes or raffled off to also raise funds FOR the event. Again, with Saturday being the main event day, GTA Forums will furnish the lunch meal. Free to everyone and it is a feast!!! I'm not going to commit but one of our great members likes to jump in the kitchen to fix up some out of his world famous meatball subs. But for sure we will have pulled pork sammiches, all of the sides and fixins' and drinks. We eat GOOD.
Hargis may also crank up the concession kitchen during the event so you can purchase what he and his crew cook. Maybe he will prepare some of his famous "crack" burgers. LOL
He can explain but it's his secret sauce that makes folks cry for more.
LOL
-
And bring pocket money for some super-awesome raffles!
-
I think this is doable. There are no other air gunners in the 2 rifle clubs that I belong to. It would be nice to meet others that have a similar interest. I could use a little better directions to the Gallatin County Fairgrounds. I couldn't get Mapquest or Google Maps to show me where that is located. I found the Gallatin Fire Dept.
-
LOTS of great and useful info in last years event thread.

Take I-71 in Kentucky to US-127, exit 62. go south on US-127 about 1-1/2 miles and look for the fairground entrance on the west side of the road. If you miss it you will go into Glencoe.
-
Any one from southeast Ohio Who would be willing to hook up and educate me a little? Maybe even do some shooting.
Any thing in the area that my 80 year old mom might enjoy, she likes to tag along whenever I take the rv on the road.

I'm coming with these guys. Might want to get a table and sale some guns, stocks and parts and pellets
-
Hey Tim, since this is a fun gathering, anyone is very welcome and encouraged to bring their items for sale or trade. Bring your table(s) and set up a pop-up or if there's room under the big tents and swap away.
:)
-
Cool, I got tables and pop-ups. Just thinning the herd.
-
just to let u know I do tshirts and banners and stickers if u need someone cheap to do any
-
Good to know Joey!!!
Thanks,
D Ez
-
I'll be there. Don't know what I'm traveling in yet but I'll be there.
Just need a spot to pull a Car or Van into.
I've slept in one or the other the last 2 years.
;D
-
Only 17 coming? Jeff and others, we sure are gonna have a lot of food to eat so it don't go to waste.
LOL

Just so long as we don't have to eat what we shoot :o :o

If my old and worn memory is still working there were not that many committed to the meet in January last year and you had a ton show up unannounced as spur of the moment attendees. By now you have got to have figured out that many on this forum are very impulsive ;D ;D ;D

I'm not impulsive, I'm just very very very committed. ;D

I'm really hoping to go, but life threw a bunch of variables at me. I can't commit until the last minute.

Sure hope you can make it Jerry!!!

I've been setting aside a little money, and will make every effort to go. Bring a couple springers to shoot or sell, and do my best to embarrass myself at the firing line ;) Looking forward to shaking some hands and put a face to a name.
If anyone is coming from the west, going thru Nebraska, maybe we could drive together? Not relishing driving 2 days and 1000 miles by myself, each way.
-
Kitchen Pass in hand, vacation submitted, car pool lined up. We are all set, going to pull out of here later in the day on the 17th. Everyone got their stuff in order?
-
Q1:How big are the camp sites there? Me and OleTomCat are each bringing a tent to put up.
Q2:How far from the fun shoot to the camp site?
-
The campsites/RV parking sites are good size. Two tents at least will fit. Maybe you can get an idea of the size from a few of these photos.
The first photo is taken at the concession building looking down the drive.

And take a look through 18 pages from Fun Shoot 2015 (the first one at the venue) and Fun Shoot 2016 for more photos.

When you enter the fairgrounds, there is a winding driveway up toward the main concession/event area. As you drive up the estimated 200 yard or so driveway, the camp/RV sites are on both sides of the gravel drive. The camp/RV sites continue up to the concession building and on the right side of the building there are a few more sites. The first year we set up the firing line tents directly behind the concession building. Last year, due to the soggy weather, we were forced to set the firing line up on the gravel road beside the concession building. The camp/RV sites are just a few yards from everything. It's a pretty neat setup IMO. Everything is close and compact yet enough room for all.
-
Q1:How big are the camp sites there? Me and OleTomCat are each bringing a tent to put up.
Q2:How far from the fun shoot to the camp site?
You know, If OleTomCat's site was next door to mine, I have no doubt there would be room for 3 tents.......

I'm about at your halfway point, if my wife backs out I will give you a shout and I will drive the 2nd half, if that makes life easier for you.
Let's talk again when it gets closer.

Looking forward to attending again this year.

I'm going to try to make the trip this year provided nothing comes up between now and then.
-
sure going to try to make it again this yr despite the weather had a good time ;D

I plan to go. I tried to fill out the poll, but I may not have done it right.

Good map Dave. Do you happen to know if there are fish in that pond on site? If we can make it to the shoot, my wife mentioned she's like to go fishing if there's time.

Maybe Rich can answer that question. I believe he wet a hook last year.

A new member from the Glencoe area asked me about the local HPA fill station but I can't find your post. If you read this, drop me a message or reply here. I looked at the app Crosman has (http://www.crosman.com/discover/airguns/pcp-resources/find-a-fill-station (http://www.crosman.com/discover/airguns/pcp-resources/find-a-fill-station)) and see the closest fill station is in Dry Ridge, KY.

Dave, I will bring that 6k bottle of nitrogen again. Don't think it will solve all our problems, but will help.
Tom
-
Most definitely helps Tom, MANY thanks!!!
-
I booked a room today ... $76.07 after they add in taxes and charges to the 65$ price.
I will be there a day early since I don't wish to drive in and rush to the hotel then the shoot.
-
I'm in. Made the hotel reservation. See you all there.
Might be a good idea to wear name tags with:
GTA
username
real name
So we can put a face to a name easier.
-
The registration packet you will get when you check in at the event has a nametag along with your raffle ticket and event information.
:)
-
Dave .. IF it is not too expensive to give lanyards to put the name tags into, that would be great. I don't wear the same shirt every day, well not if others are going to see me. LoL
-
I'll supply the nametag, folks can bring their own lanyard if they prefer wearing those.
:)

Starting to round up some fantastic items for raffles at the event. It's also my chance to play too. LOL
You pay you play so I'll be buying some tickets. I hope all of you that attend buy some tickets to support the forum and at least take a look at the items and appreciate the support from our GTA vendors!!!
And as in previous years, if any of our outstanding craftsmen and women would want to supply items for the event, we are VERY appreciative. I have already received some hand crafted goodies from a couple of members. Some outstanding stuff I might add!!! It all goes toward the upkeep of our forum and to pay the bills for this event.
And if any of you have new in box items you would like to donate, those to will be gladly accepted and utilized.
Look for a list of great items to be posted as we get closer to the date. I'm still gathering items so....
:)
THANKS all for the support and this year should be another excellent and FUN event!!!
See ya'll there.

Just got in the shipment of T-shirts and caps. Woohoo
Bring the money and buy the bling. LOL
Have an assortment of pocket and non-pocket T's.
Non-pocket $20 each
Pocket T $25 each
Caps $15 each.
After doing my recent move (actually STILL doing it) I have about decided to thin my herd. Think I have somewhere around 80 airguns. Thinking I may set up a couple of tables and let some find a new home.

You must be in deep poo with Mrs Dez! ;D ;D
You know what they say...the more you own, the more you have to secure and maintain..... it can definitely reach a point of diminishing returns!
-
Catching up on past posts I'll answer a question or two about tents.
You can easily put up 4 medium size tents and a canopy in one camping spot.
That would still leave room to park and have a fire ring.
-
Bad news guys, I won't be making the shoot this year. 2 hernia operations coming up. The second one will be the week before the shoot. Don't think I will be in any shape to make the 12 hr drive. Hope everyone has a good time, and will see you nuts next year.
Tom

Wow!!! Dez will be in serious withdrawels if he sells some of his toys. David

Would have been great to see you again. As usual I waited to long to get this taken care of. Now I have a real mess.
Tom
-
Well Tom, it's definitely not going to be the same without you and your bride there!!!
I certainly hope you get taken care of and all goes well. Keep us informed. And you will have all year to recover.
We WILL see you next year!!!

You never know though. My old boss had two done (at around 60) was seemed fine after a week. Maybe you'll feel up to it then. I hope your operations go well Tom.

A couple questions: (first-timer)
Will there be benches there from which to shoot, or should we plan on bringing our own tables?
If we have items we'd like to sell, shall we bring them or is some kind of table reservation absolutely needed? I was thinking for a couple of small items, just wearing a sign on my back.
-
We WILL have a few tables and chairs available for folks to use on the firing line. But I strongly request that if you have a shooting table setup and can, please bring it. Along with any shooting rests and bags. We have to be self sufficient in most regards. We have an area made available and will have 2-3 large tent/canopies to use as a covered firing line. Everything else, us members and attendees will need to bring. Like shooting tables, bags, rests, air, ammo, money for raffles and a desire to have a great time. LOL
As for items to sell or trade, you are welcome to back your vehicle behind the firing line to display there. Or if you have a table, bring that to set up and display. I plan on bringing a few airguns to sell or trade myself. As well as a few tables. Check with me and I can probably make room for yours too.
Will be great to see you and everyone there!!!
-
I would add that it's well worth bringing some cash to get raffle tickets and such. The vendors bring some really nice stuff for raffle!
-
Well my son finally got confirmation from work that he could go!! I've made the reservations,...it's a go! Can"t wait to see everyone. It's been such a long road back. See you all in May!
Brett
-
MOST excellent Brett!!!
It has been a while my friend. See you next month!!!
-
We WILL have a few tables and chairs available for folks to use on the firing line. LOL

Excellent Jeremy, see you guys there!!!
-
I will be there again this year, put in for my vacation time, will be bringing triggertreat with me from Nashville. Tom in Jersey, sorry to hear you won't make it this year, enjoyed shooting the paintballs with you last year. Maybe you will feel up to it after all, you bring your own hotel. ;D
-
Thanks Dave. It'll be good to meet you and lots of others there. wolverine and I are going to carpool down there.
Oh no, a couple of troublemakers. We'll need extra security. :D
-
1 month away. Book your room so you are not sleeping in a tent (unless you enjoy camping).
-
Can't afford, but we booked our room last night. Piled on more on the credit card, but we're in!
-
Looking forward to seeing you there Jerry. Look for the 1 legged guy. ;D
-
Likewise Geoffrey. Look for the the guy gimping around with a crumbling vertebrae.

We all a bunch of crippled old men playing with bb guns. David
-
I will miss you guys this year. As stated early in this thread, I had to book a National Parks tour at the same time as the meet. It was the only time we could get.
I was almost hoping the GoMent would shut down. We could have been re-scheduled by the tour company and I would have made it to the meet.
Next year for sure.
-
Bad news guys, I won't be making the shoot this year. 2 hernia operations coming up. The second one will be the week before the shoot. Don't think I will be in any shape to make the 12 hr drive. Hope everyone has a good time, and will see you nuts next year.
Tom
I wish the "rules" on this site weren't so strict. (http://webpages.charter.net/vfr800/laughing6-hehe.gif)

Yep.
Just some of us a "little" older than others. 8)
-
Think I'm going to make it will be my first time. Are rooms still available?
-
Mike,
I would call the hotel as soon as you can just to be on the safe side. they may have more than enough room, however safer to book as early as you can.

Tell you what. I'm in Norfolk, VA right now.
I can swing up, grab the truck and camper, load your better half in and roll to the meet.
No reason she needs to hang at home with you all cut up and grouchy.

I will have it with me. It is a nice piece of art now. I shot it a few times yesterday. The new camo job didn't make me a better shooter. but sure made the rifle look better.

Wow LIZ!!!! Awesome!!!
Haven't heard much from you in a while. Will be great to see you again!!!!
:)
-
Thanks Dez!
Been crazy busy with work for quite some time- haven't had much of a chance to shoot anything, but have been staying on the starlings and sparrows- they are keeping me in practice!
LOL.
Looking forward to seeing you!
-
Will someone have a Umarex Gauntlet there?
-
Just a quick teaser and reminder. Bring some cash to buy raffle tickets!!! I plan on it myself, been saving my mad money just for this. :)
Thanks to some fantastic member/vendors, we will have some very good items again this year that will be going home with some of you (and hopefully me). We have air pistols, air rifles, big bore airgun(s), scopes, shooting accessory boxes, MRod/Disco goodies, specialty ammo, PA gift certificates, air cylinder, fill whip, tactical MRod stock and air pistol custom grips. Along with a buch of kewl door prizes. I'll announce all of the donors in a special message but right now some include Steve (Woods & Water Outdoors), Dennis (Baker Airguns/Bryan & Associates), Joe (AirTanksForSale/TOPGUN-AIRGUNS), Dave (R.Arms Innovations), Pyramyd Air, Vincent (Airgun Exporter), Lloyd (AirgunLabs), Jeff (Trenier Outdoors), Timmy (MAC 1 Airguns), Cameron (Airguns Daily/Airgun Depot), Joesph (Discos R Us), Nick (Nielsen Specialty Ammo), Travis/Jim (Wicked Air Rifles), and Brian (EDGunWest). I hope I didn't leave anyone out but I'll go through the list again and post it later to make sure I have everyone thanked.
Folks, we could not have such an event without the support of our fantastic vendors. Some have even donated funds as WELL as the raffle items to help us with the event expenses. We have a great mutual support scenario going on here that I believe works great for all of us. Be sure to thank our vendors by visiting them and be sure to thank them when you speak to them on the phone, in person at the event or when you place orders online!!!
Anyway, we will literally pig out Saturday at lunch. It was great last year so we decided to repeat the pulled pork feast with sides. Uncle Paulie has also agreed to bless us with his world famous meatball subs again. I tried to pay him for the supplies but he never does accept it. LOL
Be sure to thank him for all he does for us and your forum.
And in the thanks, PLEASE do take a moment to tell Hargis and Amy how much we appreciate all they have done for us this year and the previous 2 years of hosting. This year I hope we don't cause him to spend hours sitting in a chair, working a plunger to unstop a drain. LOL
That wasn't a pretty site so I'm bringing something to hopefully prevent that.
So, if you possibly can, make the event!!!! Make SURE to register at the entrance to the concession area. I will have the location marked with signage. You can pick up an event package and a door prize ticket there. Along with a reusable clip on nametag to wear during the event. It is always fun to get together, shoot, eat, tell airgun lies and have a blast. Bring your tables, pop-ups, campers, items to sell, trade or just how off. Bring targets, stands, bags, shooting sticks, tables and chairs if you can. I will be bringing a bunch of targets and stands as well as reactive targets. We can always use some fun and entertaining targets to demolish if you want to bring some. Like dingers or cowbells. Exploding targets, reactive targets and anything that can be a challenge.
SAFE travels and see you folks there next week!!!!
-
Gonna be good to see you again Lizzie!
I enjoyed sitting and chatting with you a couple years ago.
My turn to buy the coffee!
;D
-
New guy here, going to be by first time. Planning on rolling in sometime thursday in my rv. My 80 year old mom is coming with, she loves RVing and of course my dog Beemer.
Im bringing 3 pcp rifles, one springer rifle and one springer pistol. Should get a large order of assorted pellets in the mail Wednesday. I have paint balls and golf tees as well as a spinner and paper targets and a stand for hanging the paper, a lead sled, shooting sticks, chair and table. Also bring my chrony and a fresh 6k tank. SO what am I forgetting?
Looking forward to making new friends. Travel safe everyone!
-
We all a bunch of crippled old men playing with bb guns. David
Thaz right.... Too old, frail, and decrepit to hold and fire a real gun.... Hey, wait.... my Beeman is as long as and heavier than my Mosin-Nagant ::)
-
Headed that way Thursday. There will be three of us crammed into one compact car & we will be meeting up with two others south of Cincinnati, so there is only so much we can bring. I do have a few unique pieces however, a couple of which I brought along two years ago. If there is anything anybody is just dying to hold and shoot, let me know and if I've got it, I'll do my best to bring it.
-
Mean Machine ... a cricket carbine is one I would like to hold ... brocock bantum is the other ;D
-
Ahh, sorry, I have very limited PCP stuff. I got into airgunning 30+ years ago because of the self contained nature of the guns and I'm afraid I'm still there.
-
does anyone know an exact address? I'm having trouble getting the location on my gps. even if its an address close by it would help. so far all I can come up with is downtown. if you'd call it that
-
Can I get a T-shirt if Im not on site for the gathering?
Wouldn't that make you a poser? ;D
-
Just as a heads-up, To sell or trade, I'll be bringing my
- Crosman 2300T with original Walther barrel and with a 24" Crosman barrel installed (The Sparrow Slayer)
- Puncher Breaker (not sure if I want to sell this, but may...)
- Summit NP2
- Hammerli 850
(I figure it's OK to mention that ^ since I'm not trying to sell it here. If not, I'm sure a friendly mod will delete it or ask me to do so :) )
To shoot, I haven't decided what yet. I'll be carpooling with wolverine and we'll be caravaning with Tater, using FRS walkie talkies on Channel 6.

As far as I know, OleTomCat and I will be heading out tomorrow. Looking forward to meeting a bunch of you guys. I was just looking at the weekend weather. Looks like we could get up to 1/4" of rain on Friday, showers on Saturday and maybe an inch on Sunday. That's OK. We're tough as shoe leather. As lefteyeshot is wont to say, "If it ain't rainin', it ain't trainin'" ;)

lloyd-ss and I will be heading out tomorrow morning from VA. Should be out there late afternoon.

Thanks for the link. Got directions now. Comes up as Sparta, KY on iPhone for whatever reason.
Sounds like lots of people are bringing things to sell and trade. I'm going to end up in trouble this weekend when I get back home.
It'll be worth it!

I know exactly what you mean. I am coming to get to meet people, and enjoy shooting with them, the breeze and the guns, what ever.... I am not really planning to buy anything, but I am notoriously weak willed.... ::)

Mark, I am anxious to show you the changes I've made to the marauder I got from you. I'm happy with the results. Going to try to go home with another one this weekend. See you soon!
-
I plan to come up Saturday AM. Can't swing a long weekend, but as a first timer I want to at least get a taste of this event. I also look forward to meeting several folks who frequent this great forum. See you then.

I arrived and set up my canopy with the help of Hargis, thank you Hargis.

I am SO looking forward to this weekend!

I got the camper ready to go. Will be there early afternoon. Trying to talk the CEO out of some capital to buy some stuff. So far she has agreed to $5.00. Not going to buy much with that. I figure by around 3am she will get tired of my whinning and let go of some funds. If I look a little tired when I get there and have a smile on my face I'm looking for a bargin, If no smile it didn't work.

I tell my friends that I only drink two beers a year, and not on the same day. That would certainly skew the statistics a little...

I am going to be in Bryce Canyon today on my National Park trip, but even so, I will be thinking about shootin' air stuff.
-
I would like to come.
Got to see dr at 2:15 tomorrow, and it's a 10 hour drive.

Any rooms left at hotel?

You guys didn't have to move those jersey barriers again this year did you. Looks like the line is set up in the same place. Really sad I couldn't be there this year. Have a great time.
Tom
-
Yep Tom, same as year before last. We are behind the concession building and no barriers to contend with. :)
Big tents set up thanks to Hargis, Geoffrey, Lloyd, Marty and Paulie. I was busy running errands and gathering supplies. I took several photos today and will try to post them in the morning. Tom, we really do miss you, Joe P and a bunch of others. There were several early birds thank goodness, it was a lot of help getting set up. I have seen old friends and met some new ones. THIS is what it's all about!!!!
We are ready to kick it into gear tomorrow and be at full speed Saturday. Wish all of you could join us but it sounds like we will have a great crowd!!!!
Safe travels all.
Pictures coming soon...I left my camera in the truck.
:)

Plenty of camping space left.....
Any rooms left at hotel?

Any rooms left at hotel?
There were when I checked in a few hours ago. I get the feeling thereare still plenty of vacancies.

I'm staying in the Holiday Inn Express down the road a few minutes from the site, in Carrollton KY. There is also a Hampton Inn and Super 8 down here, and several restaurants.
Those other guys are troublemakers. 8) ;D :o

I started a post with pictures early this morning. But it disappeared somehow. Will try again.
Several have shown up early, excellent. Many rolling in today. Gotten to see old friends and meet new ones. And many have gotten the shock of seeing my ugly mug. LOL

Sorry, but I won't be able to make it this year. Yesterday was the last day for of school and was planning on heading up there as soon as I got off work. Then, Murphy came by and wham.....the A/C unit went out. Gonna have to spend today getting it installed.
I'm gonna hate missing it this year, but, I need my A/C in this heat and humidity. Have a great weekend and post lots of photos. Hopefully, next year will be better for me.
-
No Friday pics??? Need to see the fun I have missed and may or may not miss Saturday... ;D :-\

Had every intention of attending, but then a Walther LGV Master Pro started whispering incessantly in my ear. Combine that with the price of a Hawke Airmax 30 SF 6X24X50 and BKL mount. Carl and Lothar got my GTA trip $$....... ;)

I missed ya man, but I totally understand!! :D :D
(You are morally bound to start a new thread with rifle pics and targets with groups ;D )

Wish i would have made it down. Definitely will be there next year!

This was my my first Kentucky trip, but it certainly won't be my last! I had an absolute blast. Met a lot of really great folks, shot some great guns, and a a lot of bull. A perfect trip! I did talk with EZMan604. I told him the one thing he had missing on the sale table was GTA ponchos. After this weekend, and stories from last year, seems like they might sell at least as well as the Tee shirts ;) It might have been a little wet, but I don't think it dampened anyone's spirits :D
-
;D ;D GTA Ponchos ;D ;D
Dez would have fixed the weather too if he could have, because he made everything else work pretty much perfect!
-
So I'm standing ovelooking the Grand Canyon on my National Parks tour and thinking if I shot an air gun at just the correct angle, would it be possible to get to the other side?
Have fun guys and gals. It looks like the event is just getting better.
Bob

It was a great time. Sorry, I forgot to take pictures. Every one was willing and happy to share knowledge experience and stories. Most of all they were gracious is sharing their guns. Tons of door prizes great raffle items I'm planning on and looking forward to next years shoot.
-
I heard people asking if it's always this wet around here. I have no scientific data to back me up but is seems to me that the last two weekends in April are usually dry in the tristate area
-
;D ;D GTA Ponchos ;D ;D

I know he would have! Dez was was on top of everything 100% of the time with a laugh and a smile all the whole time! I have known other event organizers who would have been a basket case.

Had a great time there this weekend, took triggertreat with me. Got a little soggy with the heavy rains but didn't put a damper on our spirits. Got to watch triggertreat take the 50 yard pcp paint ball shoot this year. Travis, it just wasn't your turn this time. I got knocked out in the first round, hit the ball but clipped the golf tee, maybe next time. Got home safely today, have the tent laying out in the side yard to dry up in the sun so it can be put away. At one point Saturday night thought the tent wasn't gonna make it, had triggertreat and I holding the tent sides to keep it planted. I'm getting to old to deal with rain in the tent and wet bedding, that motel cost split two ways is looking much better. Hope everyone had a great time.

I think I am with you there.... My tent was either too small, or I am way too old, and regardless of size, it was way too close to the ground! Add into the mix wet bedding and damp clothes.... Tent camping loses some (a LOT) of its appeal ;D Next year I'll be truck camping, have a trailer, or get a room!

Keep your head down ;D Got a Ghillie suit?

I had a wonderful time at my first GTA fun shoot! A special thanks to Tracker1955 who invited me to tag along with him and who shared his friendship and huge tent with me. It was quiet challenging with the stronger than normal driving rainstorms, but we made it and had a lot of fun shooting for several days together.
Some of the highlights for me was getting to meet DEz (easyman604) and his wife Teresa, Travis (WAR), David (Rocker1), Jim Gaska (Marmoth Militia), Loyd SS, Marty 2, and many, many others I have learned so much from on the GTA. Taking first place in the PCP fun shoot was beyond what I could have dreamed to do. That win gives me a great excuse though to attend next years event to defend my title again and am looking forward to it. Sorry Travis and Jim....Maybe next year... ;D
I want to especially thank DEz for the excellent job he did in putting this fun shoot together for us and he did it all with a smile the whole time. I was very impressed!!!

You did have a pretty Gun.

Teresa and I just got home. We are both exhausted and sore but we always say, it's a fantastic feeling of tired. :)
We had exactly one day to gather and pack everything this year. We have been so busy you wouldn't believe. But we managed to get there with everything needed. LOL
We set out this year with a little different attitude. Every year it has been so darned hectic just keeping things flowing we missed out on the MOST important part of the event. And that's seeing our GTA family and just spending time with them. We did it a bit different this year. And you know what? Things went pretty darned smooth anyway. And I REALLY took the time to meet new friends and hang with my old buds!!!
THANK YOU ALL for this fantastic event!!!!
I have to get back to business as usual for just a few more hectic days. After this house of ours closes, I can slow down a bit and concentrate on things around the new smaller house.
I WILL be making another post either later this evening or tomorrow with a few more photos and my long list of memorable moments. And a LONG list of thank you's for all that pitched in to make this year a great memory for me. Weather was not 100% hospitable but at least we didn't LOSE any tents and it wasn't cold on top of wet like last year.
Hang on, I'll be back shortly. Gotta run again for now.
:)
-
Come on! Show us that Staff picture!
;D

As a first timer at such an event, I have to say I was very impressed! Dez and company did a great job of moving things along at a perfect pace. As many mentioned, one can meet The Nicest People at events like this. I shared a few of my airguns with others, and I got to shoot a few pumpers I have always wanted to touch. Blue Streaks and Crosman 101's are very cool. They are even neater than the 140 I have from my childhood. Maybe someday I can find one of these for myself. Jimmy, I really enjoyed our time together on Saturday afternoon. Thanks!
I am looking forward to next year and hoping to be there for more than just one day.
GTA Rocks!!
-
I just got home from the shoot. What a time I had. To all that didn't get to go, you missed a great time with some great people. To all of you that put up with me all weekend, Thank You. Gunner, the young man that came with me, got to see what the best of airguning is all about. He is now an airguner for life. Getting to shoot so many fine airguns was only topped by making friends with so many GTA members. Everyone was there to have a good time. If a person needed anything, someone was there with it. Help was always offered, even if not asked for.
I brought home more rifles than I left with. That too is a plus.
I will be going to the GTA Fun Shoots for as long as I am able.
Jimmy

It was another great Fun Shoot this year despite the weather. Good seeing familiar faces and meeting a bunch of new ones. Dez did an outstanding job of organizing and keeping the event running smoothly(even though he deserted us before it was time to set up the canopys ;D). Already looking forward to next year and a special thanks to Lloyd for putting up with me for 5 days.
I have a bunch of pics I hope to get uploaded on PB and posted tomorrow.

LOL
It's called strategic timing. It wasn't that I was really down in my back (hopefully hid it well during the event) but honestly had to run all day getting the supplies for the event. So Teresa and I could better enjoy the event this year. Which we did for sure!!! Sorry I wasn't there to moan and groan over putting up the tents. But thanks to you guys for helping Hargis get 'er dun!!!
;D

This year I saw Dez actually having fun. I don't recall as big of a grin the past two years.

What a weekend!!! Dez, his wife Teresa and the rest of the crew who put this event on could not have been more hospitable and did a terrific job. This is definitely an opportunity to meet kindred spirits and form lifelong friendships. Everyone who attended was gracious with their time, knowledge and equipment and even though the weather was less than perfect the experience was. I was able to spend time with some amazing people and shoot some amazing guns. My friend and I ended up sharing a shooting area with Jerry (Tater) and his wife Nicole who were an absolute blast and the chance to meet and hang with them was worth the trip itself. We were right next to Jeremy (Smaug), Carl and Jeff (Jeff aka Privateer) and managed to chat and/or shoot with everyone there at one time or another. Lizzie also spent some time with our little group and was absolutely delightful to talk with. I have never met anyone with a more infectious smile than Liz. Hopefully her R1 will make it's way back to her (Another story in itself). So many other great people and I am sure more stories to come. The only thing that would make this event better is if it was a week long.

Of course not! You my dear were absolute delight to visit with! It was wonderful to meet you and the rest the Ramada Gang, even though Jeremy kept calling me Steve. Look forward to seeing everyone next year.
By the way Lizzie, ever been to Canada? If not at least your gun has!lol

Hah! That's what I was telling someone- my gun is much more well-traveled than I!
She came from Germany, landed in Cali- moved to Florida, then to Texas, and now is in Ontario. Chuckle. :D

LOTS of folks to thanks and praise for making our 2017 event one of the best ever.
I'll start with our hosts. I CANNOT say enough about my friend Hargis. When we arrived, he and Amy were working their tails off cleaning, mowing and getting everything ready for our bunch. Amy worked from daybreak till around 9pm washing walls and floors. We all tried to volunteer MANY times but she just smiled and said she had a system. LOL That was a sweet and very polite way of saying stay the heck out of my way. LOL
(http://i979.photobucket.com/albums/ae272/ezman604/Hargis%20Amy%20Grace_zpsfa2bsnwh.jpg~original)
But I WILL say we all about passed out when Hargis showed up in this suit. Amy said she can clean him up every now and again. He is on the school board and was tasked to hand out graduation diplomas. GREAT job my friend.
The good and bad is Hargis will not be our host next year. He has given up his position as fair board president.
The good news is he is STILL on the fairground board.
More good news is the NEW president is none other than Jamie, the manager of the Sparta Ramada Inn where us heathens stay. He has promised we are very welcome to return and he will carry on just as Hargis did. Not sure he knows what he has committed to, he may not be fully aware ALL that Hargis does!!!
The other fantastic part of this is Hargis can and WILL attend next year as more of a participant. I think a gauntlet has already been thrown down and I look forward to a grudge match with him and a certain member. LOL
We may sell tickets to that event.
GTA presented Hargis with a plaque for all he does. But I think he knows how much we have GREATLY appreciated his massive work for the last 3 years in helping make our event fun and successful.

Yeah, I'm hoping she makes it back as well.
I should be able to find out a little more information tomorrow- tried today, but the airline desk that I needed, was closed at DFW today. When I fly back, I'll be able to go to the desk, or to the oversize baggage desk-

We did have a few missing this year sadly to say. Uncle Paulie limped in on a horse with a sprained ankle. LOL
He had quite the experience with Pep Boys in Joyzie and here. Then when he left to get the ingredients for his world famous and eagerly anticipated meatball subs, his horse threw a show. Actually, the water pump went bad. Anyway, these little side detours caused not only us missing out this year on his subs, but also him missing the largest and bestest part of the entire weekend. Sorry Paulie but I am very glad you made it here and we got to spend SOME time together catching up. Maybe next year you will make it there fine, as long as you buy a Ford truck!!! LOL
And we also missed Bob (Springrrrr) who is out on a national park tour. Gee.....
On another note, we were missing our great friends Dave and Monica Rensing. Dave, as you know, is our fantastic vendor R. Arms Innovations. Not only that, but they are both the finest friends of ours. Dave called me and apologized that he could not make it for several reasons. Friday night I received a message that he wanted to call if I had a spare minute. You know I will always find time so I called. When he stated out he said there was a medical issue and I surely expected to hear it was him. But it was not. Seems Monica has come down with something respiratory that they just cannot isolate. She was in ICU Friday night and as of yet had not responded to antibiotics, except to have two veins blow our from pushing in these medications. So, if you are so inclined to do so, please include Monica, Dave and the medical staff in your thoughts and prayers.
Buddy, we love you guys and we want to see you two healthy and back with us next year!!! PLEASE keep us informed on her progress.
-
Prayers sent to Dave and Monica from here as well.
Here are some pics below. I'll try to post more of the names to them later on.

I had a good time at my first fun shoot. It was nice to meet some of the members and put some faces with the names. I now see why mobilemail stayed at the Holiday Inn, there is a bunch of bad influences at that Ramada!
Hey I resemble that remark, but it's Jeremy's fault since he made me help him drink that bottle of Shiraz!!
(Brian)
It took a little arm twisting, but we did get through that 1.75 L bottle! Lizzie and the nice-but-quiet lady helped out. I was a little disappointed that Travis, from wine country, didn't partake. I think maybe he was still having some regret at losing the bet with me after having a few beers the previous night.
I discovered Little Kings this time too; we were tossing them back while we eagerly watched the severe weather alerts for the alleged tornado that was coming our way.
Lizzie inspired me to change my avatar to actually resemble me, it makes it easier at these events when folks already have a face with the name.
Here are my pix and a couple of quick videos. We can see Rocker1 was ecstatic to have been featured in the one...

One of many thunderstorms that passed through. Thank goodness for those shelters, which kept us mostly dry. My chrono got a nice shower and was acting goofy. We'll see if it works later, when it dries out fully:

I can't say enough about all the great people I met this weekend! It felt like of known some for 10+ years! Special thanks to Dave, Theresa, Hargis, and the people that helped set everything up. After being there, I can't believe all the work it must have been for Dave to organize the whole thing, especially with all the other things he has going on with selling his house and moving. Dave (Dez) and Theresa are two is the nicest, most down to earth people you could ever meet. I told Nicole they are the kind of people you'd love to have as neighbors. Hargis is a heck of a good guy too, and I'm glad he will be joining us next year. Thanks also to all the vendors that donated and the one's I met there were really good guys. Jim G., Travis, Floyd, Dennis Baker...
My only regret is that I didn't meet more of you guys 2 or more years ago, when with better health I could actually walk normally, stand up straight like a normal human being and help set up.
Had a great time hanging out with all the hooligans in the hotel bar area too. Hopefully, they allow us back. ;D Everyone seemed to have fun and the conversation was non-stop. Every single person there is someone that you could sit down and talk with at length, Gipper had me rolling and Jim Gaska is a REALLY nice guy. I had some good laughs with them. Unfortunately Travis wasn't feeling well and could stay down with us longer. We think he ate some gas station sushi (yes, I stole that one ;) ). Between everyone there throwing in throwing in jokes and comments all night, my face hurt from laughing. I felt so bad for Lizzie after the airline sent her guns to Canada, but somehow she kept a positive attitude and seemed to have fun. She's a sweetheart, and an excellent shooter with a great sense of humor. She even put up with us heathens at the hotel bar. :D
No complaints at all about the hotel, and the hot tube felt nice after the shoot. I was really glad we didn't camp considering the weather. I'd highly recommend staying at the hotel unless the eather is really nice. After shooting and dodging rain most of the day, it was so nice to be dry and be able to talk with everyone over a few "beverages". I can't believe the large bottle of mystery moonshine got finished!
Me and Nicole had a good laugh when Sunday morning, someone (Forgot who) walked through the crowded lobby/breakfast area with an uncased air rifle. Where I live, a SWAT team would have surrounded the hotel, but no one there even seemed to even mind. ;D
I'd like to give a special thanks Jeff for his generosity offering to GIVE me his scba tank after he won a new one in the raffle. I didn't take it, so maybe look for it in the classifieds.
I know I left out some good info and stories so I'll throw them in more as I think of them.
Overall, can't wait for the next one!

Oh Geee-where to begin!
Great pics all! Jeremy- LOVE the avatar pic!
Had a GREAT time this weekend- met a lot of great folks- sad to say it will still take me forever to remember everyone's names! Hah!
Jeremy tried to get me drunk- Hehe- just kidding Jeremy :D
Had a lot of fun- got to shoot a good number of air rifles that I knew nothing at all about!
Tried some pcp- easy to see why you guys can get addicted to that, lol.
A lot of horse trading going on- found another "must-have" for my collection, and plan to seal the deal this week, on a S-weet Vintage R-7- can't wait to get that one.
There have been a couple of references to my gun not making it to the shoot with me- trying to keep it short and sweet- for whatever reason, I made it to Cinci, and my R-1 did not. Trying to track down what happened, I was told it should arrive in cinci by Saturday evening (which did me no good). Never got the call that it was there, then received a call at 1230 am from Ontario-
Yup! My R-1 ended up in Ontario- and only because someone seems to have taken mercy on me, it will probably be returned to DFW- quite a fiasco- and of course I have not been able to contact anyone at the airline I flew who cares OR can do anything.
Big fiasco- next time will either ship the gun ahead to the hotel, or just not bring any at all.
Had a great time though. All you who I got to meet- and all of you that I already knew- it was so wonderful- great fun- enjoyed all the wonderful company and laughter. Good times and great memories are made of this.

Shortly after this picture was taken and most were inside for the drawings, a bolt of lighting hit just the other side of the 4H building with a loud thunder boom. Someone yelled out "Lower the pressure Lloyd" a little comedy relief :D Geoffery was holding on to his canopy frame at the time of the lighting strike and he let go of it in a hurry after he got shocked. A lot of energy there.

Still here in Kentucky working with Jim on a few projects and still recovering from my bout of bottle Flu from Friday night with Jims home made moonshine. Way to take a guy out of competition partner(Jim) LOL. Had a great time met a few new people and felt very great full for all the GTA has done for us. We'll be back again next year for sure. Hope everyone had a great time and safe trip home. I'm leaving Tuesday morning for home and will start getting caught up. Thanks again everyone for the good laughs.

Tried some of that Kentucky white lightning in the summer of 1974 when visiting an old navy buddy Travis that stuff will definitely hurt you ;D ;D
-
Completely eliminated me from competition that's for sure but no one made me drink it lol. Very nice day today in Kentucky and making the most of it, working hard in the shop.
-
Travis, how long did it take for your eyesight to get back to normal? ;) ;D ;D
-
Thanks for the moonshine trick Jim, but you weren't suppose to drink any either. I'll admit I was a little intimidated going up against two FLEX guns and an FX Boss amongst other refined guns. I had planned on using my .25 cal Synrod, but ten minutes before the competition was to start, I pulled the .22 Synrod out of its case since I was more familiar with it. It was only sited in for 25 yards and I quickly worked out the holdover for 50 yards. The wind was blowing from the left and I held a little left of the paint balls in my shots hoping the wind would continue after the trigger was squeezed and it did for the win. It was a lot of fun and I look forward to next year.

What a great event and what a wonderful bunch of friendly and hard working people. It's nice that so many pictures were taken, especially with all the captions to remind us of the fun. The laid back, easy laughing attitude of the event (the 7th one for me) made it comfortable and enjoyable even for a non-social person like myself. A special thanks from my wife to Marty2 for getting me there and back in one piece with no new holes, LOL.
What can you say about the weather, except it sure added to the excitement. Its almost burned into my brain from all that lightning!
A very special thanks to Hargis and his wife, and to Dez and Teresa, and to all the "support staff", which is really all of us GTA members and attendees. And thank you to Earl for taking care of lunch for some of us on Friday... a real gentleman! And thanks to all the vendors and folks who donated prizes for the event. And thank you to my new buddy Chris for swapping ideas on refining the .51 cal beast. I'll be working on that very shortly.
I could easily write a whole page of thank-you's but would still leave out somebody! But I definitely need to mention Rocker1.... what a character. Maybe Rocker really means "off-his-rocker". Gotta luv him! Twelve months to the next event will be a heck of a long time, but looking forward to it already!
-
Jeremy,
Thanks for taking the videos! I just watched them and I think that is the first time I have ever seen Rocker1 caught speechless. Wonderful!
-
I didn't hear the call, I went deaf from sitting next to Lloyds atomic air gun ;D
He did grab that bell didn't he?
Jeff, yes, I got the bell. The cats aren't particularly fond of it, but maybe that's cause I'm shooting it in the house, LOL.
Stop by next time you are passing thru on I64 and we'll fix you up with that tank and some range time too.
-
I have several more photos to add but it will most likely be later this evening. Back to work on a Monday and it is HECTIC!!!! Arrrggghhhh.......
I need to retire. Oh, and speaking of that, I never asked Tater how old he thought I REALLY was? Guess he was expecting me to look like Uncle Jedd. LOL
(http://www.trbimg.com/img-577bf10e/turbine/la-1467740658-snap-photo/650/650x366)
Like I posted earlier, this year we definitely missed several of our great crew and family. I hope Tom (Dockey 454) recovers well and quickly!!! Tom, we missed ya my friend.
We have been missing the life of the party Joe Palone for a while now. I had hopes someone would kidnap him and stuff him in a suitcase and bring him along. Maybe if we all hound him (Liz) we can persuade him to come back!!!
I definitely missed my other right hand men, Rich(amb5500c) and Joe(jonnnyboy) this year. Guys, don't make this a habit...I hate to send Guido to see you. I know things happen and life sometimes gets in the way of having fun. I totally understand. But we certainly missed you guys.
Also noticeably missing was Michael M. We needed the whip action there for entertainment!!!
Jay? What's up?
Tyler and Howard....I hope Mom is doing okay and things settle down for you and your family. NEXT YEAR guys, we wanna see you!!!!
I could go on and on. But the point is many of our family had things going on. Some beyond their control and many that they would much rather be with us than do what they needed to do. I just wanted you to know you WERE missed!!!! Make your plans now for the third weekend in May 2018. The Derby is the first Saturday, Mother's Day is the second weekend so we have the third weekend to hold our event. I'll post the info as the time gets closer but I've already let Jamie know to block us in.
More posts coming as I find time this evening. Thanks to all for taking and sharing photos and stories. Not TOO incriminating yet from the Ramada. I DID discover a new to me beer this weekend. That Kentucky Bourbon Barrel was some excellent stuff!!!
:)

arrived home to find the spinners i ordered for this shoot came in on friday ::)
this was my 1st time and hopefully not my last, everyone was so unassuming and friendly, and no one said "no" when asked to handle their guns. if fact, most offered them to shoot!
sorry for my lack of a memory, but the shooter competing with me to hit as many dumb dumbs at 30yds.
when you called the lollipop stick and then did it....WOW!
the food was great and the camaraderie was incredible.
OH! Lizzie, your avatar picture doesn't do you justice, you are very beautiful woman.
who wouldn't love a woman who loves to shoot starlings?
thank you GTA for a wonderful event, Carl
p.s. after arriving home i tried to go for a bicycle ride but the rear tire was flat. i'm still looking for the screw!
-
Yep, I AGREE on Liz's avatar photo!!!
;D
Hey, I'm trying to get the paintball winners set up. I'll be posting photos tonight. BUT, Jules, send me a pm, I need your correct email address. It bounced and I don't see it in the GTA database. So, it's either written wrong or I'm not reading right. I tried 5-6 variations of it too. LOL
And if anyone else KNOW Jules, please contact him to contact me through pm or email.
Now back to the Monday grind.
???

Thank you to everyone for making it such a wonderful weekend. I shot far less than I anticipated but talked way more than expected. Everyone is always willing to talk and share their stories and rifles. I had fun just putting faces to the GTA handles. People always look different than what you have pictured in your head. I even got a trophy for coming in last place in the big bore shoot. only 2 competitors but who's counting. I'll brag till next year! Also got to do a couple trades. my coyote for a puncher breaker and a my hatsan .25 for another marauder .25. anxious to get the .30 cal parts put on the marauder but work is the way today. Can't wait till next years shoot. I'll have to defend my last place title! And maybe do a few more trades. Thanks again to everyone for putting in the work to make this event what it is. See you next time!

Wished I had taken more photos but was too busy shooting and meeting fellow airgunners. I really had a great time. Thanks to all of those that let me check out and shoot your awesome guns which was everyone I asked.

Had a great time.
If you want to see a lot of guns in action and interesting next year be there.
I will be there.

Lloyd, I *do* hope it's not the .51 you are shooting in the house. Even if you have a trap to catch the slug, the shockwave might blow out the walls! LOL ;)

We owe a big thanks to several of our vendors. They support us throughout the year but really come through to supply some great items for us to raffle and give away as door prizes at our event. As always, Dennis Baker attended so he could personally meet and speak to anyone that had questions. He also supplied us with some nice airguns to raffle.
It was great to see my friend there again. Thanks so much Dennis!!!! I think you enjoyed the event too. :)

Congrats guys!!!!
Thanks to our other fantastic vendors for the outstanding support.
Jeff @ Trenier Outdoors
Cameron and crew @ AirgunsDaily/Airgun Depot
Nick @ Nielsen Specialty Ammo
Timmy Mac @MAC1 Airguns
Joe @ AirTanksForSale/TOPGUN-AIRGUNS
Vincent @ Airgun Exporter
Lloyd @ AirGunLab
Dennis @ Baker Airguns/Brian & Associates
Joseph @ Discos R Us
Dave @ R. Arms Innovations
Steve @ Woods And Water Outdoors
Travis & Jim @ Wicked Air Rifles
Several folks took home your excellent gifts and GTA gained funds to pay for the event and help us throughout the year with operating expenses. Be sure to thank those listed above when you patronize them!!!
Some items were donated by non-vendors members. MOST excellent items too. Thiggs donated a beautiful and very classy shooters box. I had bought one and really thought it was outstanding. But, I realized it would not get used as intended if I kept it, so I donated it to the forum. Those made some folks very happy.
I had a donation left over form our very own Shadow. He had painted up, dated and autographed a Gamo 1000 stock for us. He added an action to it and donated it to us. THAT will be an heirloom piece a lucky member took home.
19 Sheridan57 donated a Hatsan SuperTACT convertible pistol/rifle.
Teresa and I donated a few items as did David (Rocker1) & Diane.
A member sent me two game carriers they made. These were fantastic items but my apologies, I cannot find your message to give you due credit. My apologies but please send me a pm if you see this to remind me. I'll correct my error. But many thanks for the awesome items!!!
It takes a lot of folks to make an event successful. Those above are some of those outstanding members/vendors!!!!
You make GTA "THE" place to be on the internet!!!
And I thank you all.
On display were a couple of items as teasers for upcoming "monthly" raffles. Ed (shadow) also painted us up a magnificent PRod. Rocker1 handled the internals and performance as well as added a custom CF shroud. It will come up in a bit.
But the next item coming as a GTA raffle is one that really had folks drooling. I had to constantly wipe it down with Ballistol. LOL
Brian of EDGunWest refurbished and donated a beautiful EDGun Matador in .22 caliber.

Look for it to start later this week. I'm letting my fellow admins draw a number so I can play too. This is FANTASTIC support for GTA but the story Brian told me about how GTA has effected his business really made me smile. His story is exactly what we need here in mutual support. And helps fortify our motto "We Support Those That Support Us".
MANY thanks Brian!!!!

Also more VERY missed folks this year.

I received a message from Dave Rensing. GREAT news that Monica has actually been released to go home with bed rest. They have found a non-intravenous antibiotic that is helping attack this virus. Dave said MANY thanks for the prayers. I'll continue mine for her complete and speedy recovery. Dave and Monica are the finest kind!!!

Thank you to everyone for making it such a wonderful weekend. I shot far less than I anticipated but talked way more than expected. Everyone is always willing to talk and share their stories and rifles. I had fun just putting faces to the GTA handles......
I'll second all of that. I had a great time! Met a ton of really nice people. I remember a few names, but I won't forget any of the the friendly faces! They say when you get old the first thing to go is memory.... I don't remember what the second one is.
Yep, I talked a LOT! I love to shoot, but I have a 100 yard range in my back yard and plink cans off my front porch rail from the dining room... I can shoot anytime, 24/7, but getting together and shooting the breeze with friends, and making new friends to shoot the breeze with next year.... That is not an everyday thing, and is something to be treasured.
One name I haven't seen mentioned here is Jimmy's young friend, Gunner. It was a real pleasure to meet and spend time with him. I never see my son, and grandson's, and my daughters and grand daughters all think all guns ought to just vanish. It was a treat to get to spend time with such a great young man!
Thanks Dez, Teresa, Hargis, Amy, and Rocker1 (and everyone else I don't know about) for working so hard to bring this thing off! Thanks, EVERYONE, for making this a memorable vacation for me. Thanks to everyone who took all of the pictures. My brother couldn't make the trip, and wanted me to take plenty of pictures, but I had issues with my phone, and couldn't take the first pic! You guys are life savers! Jeremy, especially thanks for the videos!
I did come home with an unexpected souvenir. It seems when I picked up my range bag to get it in out of the rain, Saturday, the sharp pain I felt was a major tear in my left bicep. I'll be shooting exclusively benchrest for the rest of the summer....
-
Just a quick note to say I really enjoyed this year's shoot. It was so good to be back after three years of recovery. The warm reception by my friends made my heart swell with love and joy. Thank you so much. My son and I really had a special time. I can't wait to see you all again next year. I'm especially proud of the congratulations I received after winning Second Place in the PCP Shoot. This forum and this year's shoot have healed me more than I can say. Thank you my forum brothers and sisters.

Take care and hope to see you next time.

THANK YOU Dave & Teresa and Hargis & Amy Davis!!!

I had a blast Dez kept me busy, highlite for me was Jim Gaskas kid, wow he can shoot and I think he is only 10 but for sure was extremely mature when handling a gun and very polite, When I would ask him which paintball he never said far right or left he always said 5th from right beside the broken tee, no doubts you would know exactly what he was shooting at. He put several old timers out and his pops. David

I am like soooo sorry I missed out on this shoot this year, but life decided I needed to be elsewhere. I am already making plans for next year.
Marty and Lloyd, I wish I could have made the trip with you guys. I am glad you guys had fun!
Lloyd, you have been holding out on me! You know I am going to want some trigger time with that beast! If we ever get some dry weather we will most definitely need to get together. Maybe we will even invite Marty.
-
Hey Burke, we DID miss you this year. But we definitely understand family comes first!!!
And yep, I did inquire about you.
:)
See you next year!!!

Burke,
Yes, we missed you, especially when the wind and rain was trying to blow our shelter away and we needed some extra hands to hold it down, LOL.
The beast had been sleeping in a corner of my shop collecting dust and I figured it was time to poke it a little and get it stirred up again. It still needs a little training in appropriate public behavior, and a bit of a diet might not be a bad idea, either.
We will have to get together soon!

Just want to thank you for all the work you did to make my stay a good one. Without your help getting the electric working My camper would have been very warm in deed. I know you had a lot going on at the time and you still took time to make sure I was good to go. I didn't even have to ask.
Thank you again.

The Gas Station Bell after the Funshoot
I really liked that gas station bell that Jeff aka Privateer brought. Seems like a lot of other people liked shooting it too. Jeff was kind enough to offer it to me in advance of a future trade. I got it home and decided against shooting it with the .51 cal and instead set it up at the garden for the grand kids to play with. What could be better than jumping on a hose and making a bell ring over and over and over again? ;D ;D

Lloyd! I have tears in my eye watching that I laughed so hard!!
;D
I'd think it will become a victim of the .51 at some date.
;)
And to correct you just a bit.
I told you to take it for free. You offered the trade. I just said "OK"
;D
Paul tried to give me money for the other bell and I turned it down.
-
Well thank you very much Jeff ! You can see it is going to get a lot of use this summer, but I might indeed have to shoot it before it drives all the adults crazy, LOL.
-
Well, I'll post this so I can have plenty of reminders. We have not done a group photo in 4 years. We NEED ONE!!!!
I fully planned on doing one this time but the activities plus the weather made me forget. REMIND ME next year!!!!
:)
-
Geoff brought it up, We did talk about it and agreed to shoot the camera.
Then Geoff bailed.

If you are trying to view them from your phone, there is a possibility of issues between your phone and youtube.

You're right about the Gaska kid. He shot nonstop from my bench for a good while, but I didn't say a word about all of the table shaking he was doing because I could tell he was having a blast with the Flex and I was having more fun watching him than shooting...Not that I could get a shot in anyways Lol. I finally convinced him that he could hit the 139 yard plate Lloyd/Marty had setup. He was hesitant for a good while. I kept telling him with a six mil dot holdover he could hit it. He finally gave it a shot and did hit it after just a few tries.

Keith, very nice of you to provide that encouragement to little Eli. That's what its all about, isn't it? :D

Yes, I agree! Another thing that happened prior that is I noticed Eli was shooting the 25 yard targets as fast as he could get the gun cocked again. I told him about a 50 yard resettable target I had put out. I told him if he hit the four smaller targets at the bottom of it they would stay up and then he could hit the top target to reset them. I forgot about that for a time, but then looked at it later and he had all four bottom targets flipped up. I remember saying to him you did it. He smiled with a big grin and told me I could hit the reset which I did. He really is an impressive young man and can shoot really well too.
Eli wasn't the only one receiving encouragement and having a blast though. I will always remember the warm welcome from you and also when you gave up your table so Marty could teach me about the 100 yard club plus others he moderates on the forum. Marty setup 100 yard targets and taught me a lot about how the scoring is done. I did get one 1x on the 100 yard, but my .25 cal wasn't really up for the task that day and is currently the reason it is on my bench in pieces being worked on. I have printed out the 30 yard targets and can't wait to have the time to post my results on the forum. Whether it's the best or not doesn't really matter, it's what I learned from Marty is what I look forward to. Meeting you two fellas really sticks out in my memory bank. Really nice folks to be around!

Well for the few hours I was able to be there it was fun. I may have not have shot my own rifles while I was there or even pull them out well not until I was about to leave. LOL In the end I meet a few GTA members and they did offer to let me shot theirs rifles that I have never shot before (THANKS). I hope next year the stars align and I am able to make a few day trip out of it and not just a few hours.
Is there a video posted?

Dang good, thing i didnt, see him when he looked like that, i would have shot him with my BB gun. David

When people PhotoShop their own photos, they usually do it to make themselves look better. This is very concerning. :o

We hired an official videographer one year. We should do that again. It does cost though. If anyone wants to take on the task, we would be glad to talk!!!
