I just don’t trust the 1377 to get the job done on squirrels. I like .22 but I don’t feel my 2240 is really up to it either. A 1322 at six or seven fpe would probably be adequate. Get yourself a Crosman model 362 (when they come out.) and keep the 1377 as a dispatch gun.
this is all going to depend on what "modding" you are planning to do? do you have an idea on how far you plan to mod this gun? what mods are you considering? me personally, if i were to do one with a stock length barrel just to have tucked away under a seat or whatever for a quick grab gun for general purposes at closer ranges... stick with the 1377. a flat top valve and piston and a steel breech with a heavier pellet along with a well placed shot is all you need. you will get the advantage of higher FPS with the flat top, and the heavier pellet will give you better knock down power with the advantage of a straighter trajectory. all totaled... under $70 to mod.

That is exactly what I am thinking...I already have the 2289 but i just kept seeing the 1322 and made an impulse buy. Here is my 13xx/22xx line up so far:1377 carbine (stock barrel, scoped, adding maverick LDC adapter soon)1377 pistol (maybe power mods soon, potential truck gun, right now plinker and pest control)2289 (all stock, keeping stock for bugout airgun)2240 pistol (converted to 177 w/ LDC, red dot, main plinker)2250 carbine (converted from 2240, LDC, scoped, steel can killer, maybe power mods later, maybe hunting some)2240 pistol (open sights, tac light, planned power mods, planned boat snake gun, kept 22cal for max closeup FPE) - Part of me wonders if the modded 1377 would be better for may range & penetration though just in case I had to deal with something farther or larger but in that case I also usually take a rimfire pistol with me too???1322 pistol (all stock, planned power mods soon, potential truck gun)So if you had a 1377 and a 1322, which would go int he truck and which would go in the boat? Which would dispatch an injured beaver or coyote with point blank headshot under emergency? If you pick one for truck or boat, tell me why specifically you feel that way. I'm about tot he point I think i should just have two 1377;s for these tasks. The 2289 does almost 12FPE stock with 18-20 pumps so maybe I should use it in the truck (boat I'd want something smaller than 14.5" barrel)And finally, is the 2240 pistol a waste as a boat gun then??? I know a lot of people like them for tackle boxes...I was going to add a grav-mag and have it ready with fresh CO2 each time I went out when the weather was above say 70*...maybe the 1377 or 1322 could go in colder weather?LOT TO TAKE IN...WHAT WOULD YOU DO GUYS?
I bought a 1377 from Walmart’s clearance isle several years ago … knew I would mod it & so I never opened it till this year after acquiring a metal front sight, solid pivot pin, brass pump rod, and LW barrel. I wanted accuracy over power figuring as has been said B4 … if I can’t hit the target power is waisted. Just tried my first valve mod, reduced volume & swapped valve spring with 1 from a 2240. It pumps easier & 10 pumps is producing 500fps with 10.5 crosman pellets. pistol is more accurate than I am but the more i spend time with it the better it gets. i can consistently hit my 1 inch reset target at 20 yards rested & hope to be able to do it off hand.
