I think they came to a similar realization judging by their expanded outsourcing of late. This strategy came after their belated response to the Umarex Gauntlet in the Fortitude, and subsequently the regulated Marauder to compete with the proliferation of mid-priced regulated guns hitting the market.

I did put some silicone oil in the bolt. It seems better at least the bolt handle doesn’t feel like it will snap although it looks pretty flimsy. I’ve seen videos where they do shoot but I honestly don’t know how some of these top reviewers didn’t comment on the cheap look and feel. I mean the chief has a bit of that too but man this thing is really suffering from it. To think I could have bought another chief 2 in wood for 199. I actually bought this so I could buy a cool Boyd stock for it but all I can say is it better shoot awesome or I will say it isn’t worthy. Another thing is I came close to over paying for a disco on eBay with a Boyd stock. Were they as crappy cheap as this Maximus? Really glad I didn’t buy that gun and will be hesitant to go with Benjamin in the future. Dang I guess I should shoot it. Just aesthetically and initial quality seem a let down. This may get kicked down the road for a wood chief 2.
I have a disco and my grandson got a maxi , both in .22 . The grandsons maxi will put 5 14.3 crosman domes is a half inch at 30 yds all day . 5 minute trigger job and good to go . $195.00 delivered with a half way decent 6 power mil dot scope . And made in the good ol USA. Light and handy , hand pump able , about 35 good shots on a fill , I mean how much better could you ask for for the money ?
Got mine for $165 shipped. $35 for baker trigger. Homemade bubba hsa. 30 pumps from 1500 to 2000 psi for 20 shots avg velocity 860 with AA 13.4 and will put 5 shots inside 3/4” all day. Yes not pretty and doesn’t feel like 1/2 the gun my $260 bsa buccaneer is . It’s 2 years old and never given me any problems and has accounted for dozens of squirrels, 2 raccoons and at least a dozen armadillos. Basic, cheap gun that gets the job done and good value IMO.

If I get this performance out of mine I will slap a Boyd’s stock on it and like it. 😄😄. Yes RIBB I am probably being a bit harsh. Just wish the USA 🇺🇸 quality was up ticked just a bit. I will put a 130 dollar stock on it and be happy if it performs as above.

American firms produce many excellent firearms but almost no air rifles. If an American company built springers of the quality of,say, Diana I think they would sell. I know we have Air Force and some other smaller companies building rifles but I would love to see someone emerge with a full line of quality guns. My 2 cents. I recognize this is unlikely to happen in the current economic climate by it would be nice to see something of good quality manufactured wholly in the USA.
