Title: 2017 Southern Indiana Pellet Fling
Post by: jimmymc2900 on December 01, 2016, 11:59:05 PM
The Southern Indiana Spring Pellet Fling, will be held  April 8, 2017. It is a fun shoot, bring your airguns and have fun. Everyone is welcome. There will be steel targets, paper targets, just about anything we can come up with to shoot at. The main shoot will be Sat. But the farm is open to airguns all weekend. I should not call it a farm. Just a large yard.
Ben, from Steelplinkers, said if enough interest was shown for a field target range he would furnish targets.
It cost nothing to shoot or camp. Bring food and drink. I might be able to come up with something to eat on site. But don't count on it.

It will be held at my farm;  "2900 west county road 750 south, Commiskey In. 47227". I have 56 acres to play on. There is plenty of room for primitive camping. Plenty of room to set up ranges. Between now and then post all the ideas and what you guys want to do. The only electric is at my house. But generators are welcome.

Mark your calanders, This will be the first airgun fun shoot around here. Lets make it a fun one. Tell your friends, and bring one with you.
Anyone that would like to help set up and help at the shoot let me know. Pm me here, post what you guys want to do, and who will come.
It is going to take place you might as well come.

Jimmy

Happy new year everyone. I hope everybody got at least one thing airgun related for Christmas.
I have be contacting airgun companies to see if any would sponsor the shoot in the form of door prizes. A couple have contacted me wanting more information. We can only hope.
Also working on gathering targets to shoot. Things to make it fun. I will keep posting on this thread as things progress. Anything you guys want to add please do. Get the word out.

It would be a great weekend to come down to the southern part of the state. We are going to have a good time. Bring your family, they may get the airgun bug. I am sure we can hook them up with a lot of shooting. Hope to see you in April.

Jimmy,

Lilly and I plan to be there.  We will be dragging our little camper.  We look forward to meeting the Indiana folks.  Is there anything we need to bring?

Awesome, I hope to make it from Cincinnati. I will get my scuba filled and order some pellets. I will have a used scuba tank or two with me to sell. I am switching over to CF and would love to ditch a few of these older tanks.

I also expect to have a few toys that would be open to relocation to new homes - for an adoption fee. :-)  ...at least I think I will...breaking up is hard to do....   :P

(I'm set up for Paypal.  ;D ;D ;D )

We are under 3 weeks till shoot time. I just checked I am going to need more pellets too. Better order some this week. As I said before, we are going to be shooting in my front yard. Don't worry it is a big front yard. 50+ acres. But I don't have a covered shooting range. So anyone with a popup sunshade that would not mind setting it up to shade the shooting line, bring it. Targets of any kind.
If you have things you would like to sale or trade, bring them.

Jimmy,

Just bring your airguns and pellets. Pack like you are going camping Boondock style. I got another pumper yesterday. A crosman 101. I have it shooting now, going to try and refinish it before the shoot. Not sure how that will work out for me. We will hang bottles on hooks out to about 30 yards and shoot holes in them all weekend. Now that sound like fun.

Awesome, I hope to make it from Cincinnati. I will get my scuba filled and order some pellets. I will have a used scuba tank or two with me to sell. I am switching over to CF and would love to ditch a few of these older tanks.

We hope you can make it too. I am sure just about everyone will have something they may like to part with. I hope everyone brings things to sale. That always makes for a fun time. If nothing else we get to look at all the good stuff.

I also expect to have a few toys that would be open to relocation to new homes - for an adoption fee. :-)  ...at least I think I will...breaking up is hard to do....   :P

I like that adoption fee thing. Do you mind if I use that some also. I have WIFI in the barn. It will reach out to the RC runway, but may not make it to the firing line. But you can patch in to it and setup shop.

You know he did say something about a can race when we were talking about the Daisy 853s. Do you think he may be setting me up for an old fashion airgun spankin?  He and Lilly have a lot more practice then I. But we will have the cans laying around to shoot at. Bring your tack driving pumper and maybe we can teach him a thing or two. ;)

Let me give you a hint - big caliber at a slow speed!   You don't want a gun that shoots through the can, and the bigger the caliber the more energy it passes to the can. Of the two, slow speed and shot placement win the game.  But you didn't hear that from me.  8)
Last year I did pretty well with a benji pumper on three strokes, but I let that one go. a .22 C02 pistol would rock.

I will also have some little army men if you want to set them out and snipe the evildoers.  If you prefer a safari hunt, or a dinosaur hunt, they are easy to pick up at the dollar store.  ;D

I see you have a 397p and a 853. Don't forget them I can see we are going to have a lot of fun with them just setting around shooting cans. I have a couple trash bags full of plastic pop bottles to shoot at. I like the way the pop and swing when hit with these pumpers.

It was 70 deg here today. Got some of the things done getting ready for the shoot. I hope we have this kind of weather all that weekend. Keep your fingers crossed. Here is the address just in case someone wants to get their GPS programed, or google map the location. This link will show you the place. If you look you will see a black strip in the field just to the east of a barn. That is the place we are going to be shooting. The black strip is my RC airplane runway. The map shows 2900 as the house on top of the hill. It is the barn down in the bottoms. It is an easy place to find. Just looks hard.

I have some that said they will be here Friday the 7th. We will camp and shoot till we get tired. You can come when ever you want and leave when ever you want. I live here and will be here.

Unfortunately, I won't be able to make it to this one. I'm hoping to go the the KY shoot in May, but out camping supplies are basic and would probably be too cold for us. My health issues (back) would make it tough setting up too.
Have a great time guys and take lots of pics!

Our shoot is only a week away. You can show up anytime you want. The shoot is very informal. If you want to stay for a week and shoot I don't care. Bring enough food to last as long as you want to stay. It is only 15 miles to town if you run out of anything. I will have a couple grills set up we can cook on. A fire pit for roasting hotdogs. My wife and daughter still plan on cooking hotdogs and hamburgers for us. The barn has a bath, kitchen, TV, Phone, Wifi, until a few weeks ago I lived in it. It will be open for a long as anyone is here.
I have a small compressor to help fill our rifles, courtesy of  Lj high pressure Co.,Ltd. It is not big enough to fill the large tanks but it will help.
There is also a small runway in the front yard I use to fly my model planes from. If any of you have RC planes you might want to bring one and do a little flying if things work out that we can.
See ya all soon

A week out, time to keep the eyes on the skies. Do you have a plan in case of rain?

(You should have seen it last year at the GTA fun shoot. It rained overnight, and it was so windy on Saturday every guy that went outside took his wife with him.....

It's a 12 hour round trip, so I'm not going to try it if we have rain move in.

Thank you Jimmy, I really wish I could go and appreciate the offer very much. The other problem I didn't mention is that my wife's gun is out at the spa and I have no idea when it will be back. I'd fee kinda bad bringing her, she really misses her gun and would want to shoot it. It's my fault for messing it up.   :(

Will there be a Feinwerkbau 300 or a FWB 600 there?  I have never got to pet either of those those.

I'd be up for a big Nutter hunt this fall if we can put something like that together. Some good area west of me that isn't to rough of terrain for us older folks lol.

What are y'all bringing for shooting irons?

I'm attempting to pack light, so I will probably bring my  .177 Marauder (will be available for relocation  ;) )  http://www.gatewaytoairguns.org/GTA/index.php?topic=121989.0 (http://www.gatewaytoairguns.org/GTA/index.php?topic=121989.0)

...and probably my BAM B51. Both are air efficient rifles shooting under 25fpe, so they shouldn't be too hard on the targets.  And I just stocked up on pellets so I should be ready for fun!!

If anyone is looking for particular kinds of pellets, throw that info out there too, we might be able to come prepared for a pellet swap.  ;D

I also have a couple I would like to rehome. Just bought a new one and need to raise some funds.

Everything is a go. I have the place cleaned up, well to me it is cleaned up. The range mowed, sun shade up, rifles ready. Well put targets out tomorrow. The few that I have. Anyone that has anything they like to shoot bring it. The weather man said Sat. was going to be sunny and cool. Not so cool we will be uncomfortable. I have a fire pit ready just in case. The barn is heated so no matter what we can get warm. We can shoot from 5 yards to 200 yards. Bring your lawn chairs, and shooting tables. Something to drink. Guns and ammo. Let's shoot something.
See ya all soon.

Jimmy

Van's loaded. I should see you about mid-afternoon tomorrow, and I will have to leave 4-5pm Saturday to get back to real life in time.  And I will be camping at the Hampton Inn. :-)

Jimmy, what time on Saturday would be the ideal time to show up ?

I don't think there would be an Ideal time. Just show up anytime you want.

If you want to really rough it, turn the heat down to 65° all night.

Well I'm camping in the hotel room now.  ;D

I was a Friday early bird, and I just gotta say...this is gonna be fun!  The weather is perfect, the accommodations are perfect.  Targets are set out for just about any power level of gun (although the majority are best for sub-25fpe). If you even thought about coming you really should.

Jimmy is an immensely friendly and gracious host. And if he isn't there when you pull up...he's probably getting something at the house.  ::)

Lucky you Mark! I wish I could have made it. Post pics please when you get a chance.
Hopefully I can make the "Second annual Jimmy-shoot". Or is it "Jimmy-palloza"?

Thank you for hosting.   I did get a few photos and will get them edited and posted.

Saturday was even better than Friday. Good food, stories containing a modicum of truth and bushel of embellishment, everybody shooting somebody else's gun, things exploding, trading and gawking....

add in good food and perfect weather and it was awesome!  Having to leave came much too soon, but real life is unforgiving in that respect.

I will have to downsize my pictures, but I will get them up at my first convenience, probably a few days.

Here is a link to the photos I took.  I was only able to make it for a few hours on Saturday, so not many photos.  I also tested out the GoPro (clone) that I bought a couple months ago.

It was too much fun to mess around taking pictures all day! :-)

It sounds like we may have another go at this next year, Jimmy promised the weather will be as good as it was this year.  (We need to put him in charge of weather for the GTA fun shoot, da man got connections LOL)

Did I mention he even had an onsite compressor???  I don't know how many guys actually needed it, but how cool is that??

Wow, I am wore out. We had a great time this weekend. I want to thank everyone that come out to the first Southern Indiana Pellet Fling. We  had a great time, The weather was perfect. I can say for sure this group of people are the best there are. Not one person did not ask if there was something they could do. Not one didn't ask if anyone wanted to shoot their guns. Bob H, and his lovely wife showed us a game they play with tin cans that is one of the funnest things I have ever done with a pellet gun. By the way they gave us all a little spanking with their shooting. Don't let those two  fool you with their easy slow tone. When they set down with an airgun they are all that and a cup of coffee.
We got to make some new friends that I can hardly wait to see again. I got to shoot some air rifles I can only dream of owning. And some that have been tweeked to perfection. No matter what you were shooting if you needed anything someone was there with it or something you could use. Geronimo must have had 300 lbs. of pellets. I have never seen so many. He just set them down and said if anyone wants to try a different, pellet here they are.
To all that did not get to come. You really missed a good time. But everyone that did said they would like to do it again next spring. So the Second Sat. of April 2018 will be the 2nd. Southern Indiana Spring Fling. It will be held here at the barn again. Mark your calenders, it will be a great start to the shooting season.

Thanks again to all that came and all that helped,

Jimmy

Jimmy,

Lilly and I want to thank you for allowing us to attend.  You have a wonderful place to shoot.  You and your family are terrific hosts.  You all treated us as if were family.  There were so many fine rifles available to see.  The weather was perfect.  Lilly and I could not have asked for a better outing.  There were many GTA members there,  I still don't have the faces and names tied together.

I believe there were some very nice rifles that found new owners.

We look forward to returning for the 2018 'Fling.  I'll bring my padded shorts, 'cause I might get  whooping'.

Again, thank you so much for your hospitality.

BobH.

Mark,

Thank you for setting down and shooting pistols with me.  That is one fine pistol you were shooting and you were shooting it well.  It is alway a pleasure to visit with you.  (His can kicked my can.)
