squirrel season!

hi guys!  anyone here living near grant county?  i live in marion (city limits) and I was wonderin if i could join anyone for a squirrel hunt in the country, public or private hunting area.  this would be my first, and dont wanna do it alone if possible.  thanks!

So, quick fact.  I was under the impression that airgun hunting was illegal in IN.  I just asked a DNR officer, and he said that the only game that has equipment restrictions is turkey, deer, and waterfowl.  And maybe crow, depending on how you read the regulations.  But rabbits, squirrel, fox, beaver, quail, pheasant, and others don't have restrictions on the equipment used to take the game!  I thought IN was behind when it comes to airgun hunting, but they are actually pretty progressive.

thanks jm, went out last weekend alone to mississnewa lake (area 6).  heard them, but didnt see any.  I was told by a friendly biker I met there to try to cover my face when im out hunting for squirrel.  (apparently i scare them away with my smile =) )  I'll try that this weekend.

I live in greenwood and would be interested in going out to waste some lead.  I do not want any of the squirrels, so your bag limit would double.   Perhaps we can work something out in the  near future.

I know this is late, or very early for 2015!

But I have been air gun hunting squirrel for several years now.  And squirrel for almost 40 years.

It is great fun, and requires a little different skill set from powder.

When season rolls around this year, give me a shout maybe some of us can meet up.

I am in the southern part of the state, but know several places to public hunt.

I live over by Montpelier maybe 12 miles from Marion so if you'd like to go squirrel hunting with us this fall just give a shout.  There is a group of us that go camping over at Salamonie res in September and make a weekend campout/squirrel hunt every year.

I think the folowup posts have been correct.  Indiana has very limited restrictions on small game hunting.  No baiting, no electronic calls is what I've read.  As long as you have your license, obey the hunting regulations and rules (orange safety wear), use of tool to harvest game3 is pretty open.  Airgun, 22 rifle, pistol, bow, sling shot etc.

I'm new, still learning, want to go small game hunting some day myself.  Just trying to figure out what to buy, where to hunt.

"Squirrel -
Gray and fox squirrel season is from Aug. 15, 2015 to Jan. 31, 2016.

Hunter orange clothing requirements (see Hunter Orange Requirements) must be met while hunting squirrels from Nov. 1, 2015 to Jan. 31, 2016.

There are no equipment or ammunition restrictions for squirrel hunting. A 20-gauge or smaller shotgun loaded with 6- to 7 1/2-size shot or a .22-caliber rimfire rifle is recommended.

Shooting into or disturbing leaf nests or squirrel dens is illegal at all times.

It is illegal to hunt flying squirrels, which are a protected species in Indiana. They cannot be possessed without a special permit.

Gray and fox squirrels can be chased with dogs year-round with a hunting license. Certain restrictions apply on DNR-managed properties."
