Plinking and having fun - Norcal

Hey ya'll, I'm in the SFBay area, Benicia to be precise, and need to get out of the backyard.  I'm working on getting my CA hunting license, but till then I'd just like to be able to roam around in nature and shoot at tin cans etc and not have to worry about the neighbors. Any suggestions on places nearby I can stretch my legs and get in some plinking?

Also, come July I'll be headed up toward Garberville for a week of camping. I want to take my new Sumatra with me, and get in some shooting, but haven't a clue of where I can go. Any ideas?

When I was a kid, I'd just head to the woods down the street, and across the rail road tracks to spend the day roaming, exploring, plinking and hunting critters.  Life sure seems a lot more complicated these days.

The Diablo range off hwy 4 has Field target and Silhouette air gun shoots every month. This also a good start in getting out of the backyard.

Don't know where near Garberville you are going, but to the west is lots of BLM land in the Lost Coast Range, and to the east is Six Rivers Forest, lots of camping spots there near Zenia and Ruth Lake.  Just don't go too far off the beaten trail, lots of bad characters and foreigners growing pot on our public lands these days, with firepower to overmatch that Sumatra.  I'm waiting till pot gets legal and regulated before I do much camping on public lands again.

Theres also some fish & game and BLM lands north and west of Lake Berryessa, not too awfully far from you.
