Howdy folks
I have a little spread in the Mtns. of NC, Thanks Dad. I have various ranges out to 300yrds for shooting. I started shooting .22's when I was 8yrs old, thanks again Dad. I have shot .308 at 300yrds and .22's out to 100yrds. I sold my .308, just because of the cost ($800 rifle, dollar a shot, ammo) I still have a lot of .22's but due to weather and other factors the .22 shooting is limited.
Anyway the winters here are not a shooter's dream. My shooting season was maybe March to Nov. Then I would hang up the rifles. Last winter a shooting buddy had me over to his house and he had a simple air range setup in his basement. A couple of boxes full of phone books, a target rifle and pellets. We spent a few hours, taking turns shooting his rifle and was amazed how shooting his air rifle was close to shooting my.22 and I said I got to get this setup.
Since I started with .22's, I didn't do much airgun shooting when I was a kid. So since I have been shooting a rifle for 45 years, I'm a raw recruit to air guns. FedEx dropped off a used Daisy/Avanti 853, that I got from CMP. 2 things that caught my attention was, I faxed the form Sun. night and got the package Tues. afternoon and it came with a wooden target stock. Well it arrived before the pellets, I ordered, so off to wally world and picked up some cheap pellets to check out the function of the rifle. Function test passed and now waiting on ordered pellets to show up, before I sight it in. Overall, not a bad rifle for $115 delivered.
Hope to get a lot of advice for this new adventure ;D
Here is the rifle, it looks like a 753 stock on a 853. The butt has US Army on it and a number on the bottom of the palm grip written with a sharpie.

Howdy Lee and welcome to GTA Forums. Glad you found us and joined up. We're a bunch of airgun nutz and addicts. The cost of powder burner shooting was also a factor in getting me hooked on airguns. And I can just walk out in my rural back yard and sling lead without the neighbors calling for SWAT support. LOL
Be sure to post often and post pictures of your airgun adventures.
Glad to have you aboard!!!!
SAFE & Happy Shooting!!!!
Dave
