Proposed rule change to the Classifieds

I like Diana 24's, too, and missed out on the recent one sold here (and the peep sights, dang it), but I decided that, not being a party to the transaction, I wouldn't vent my grief there, vis a vis the rules.  Seems it doesn't deter others from continuing to chat, so here's my proposal:

Once an item has been sold and all buyer/seller information is in hand, either lock the thread or delete it.

The 24 post has knocked two or three other items off the front page.  I know that I've complained like an old lady about this, but, if I'm selling or buying, it's making the GTA Classifieds one of the least productive venues on the air gun forums.  We have more sections than anyone else out there with the exception, perhaps, of the huge Airgunbbs Brit forum.  In other words, there's a lot of opportunities to chat aside from the ads.

That's my story and I'm sticking to it.

I'm in full agreement with RF on this.  It's gotten so bad that I don't bother advertising here, or even checking the Classifieds, and I consider this my "home" forum.  Sorry guys, but the Yellow Classifieds is much better disciplined, and far more productive because of it.  Maybe the answer is to simply copy what they're doing.  Don't think I'd want to see completed transactions deleted, it's too good a resource for going back and checking what market value is/was.  Although sometimes a PITA, I think I even like the no edit setting on the YF Classifieds.  Sure, we all goof sometimes, but you simply post a reply to your own ad to clarify something, if needed.  It's another way to help preserve the archive.  What we have here is chaos, and pretty useless chaos at that.  Later.

Thanks, Gene! I agree with the others here on this issue, and this will be a big improvement. Thanks also RF for leading the charge.

Agreed, the GTA classified data base will be no greater than 2 weeks.

Personally, I would rather see a completed transaction locked than deleted.  It might be easier to administer with a sunset rule like that but you lose the data resource, either for going back to see what guns sell for or to tickle an old ad to see if the seller still has the gun for sale.  (Maybe two weeks have gone by but you now have the money, changed your mind about buying that gun, etc.)  And I am willing to bet dollars to doughnuts that, with the thread left open, there will still be people posting, bumping up the thread, even though they will be deleted.  Just some points to consider.

FWIW, I felt kind of bad posting about the Classifieds in the first place.  I usually offer my stuff here first, but, like the other poster, have had reservations of late, myself.

Ok guys lets get something straight right off the bat here. The GTA is not based on the yellow forums format, procedures etc. and never will be.

You seem to forget we are still in the construction stage of putting the new GTA together. There is a large learning curve with this new software and hundreds of options that are linked and cross linked within the forums. Hundreds of permissions to be rectified an so on. Bob and I can only do so much so fast.

We have always asked for suggestion from the member body and will continue this.

We are working on making the GTA better every day so please, constructive feedback is always welcome..

A suggestion:
 How about a "dedicated" moderator just for the classifieds? I've bought stuff off the classifieds, but never sold anything -so I'm not really clear on the in's and out's of protocol. But there's people here who are familiar, and might volunteer their time to patrol them - and maybe divvy out warnings etc. if necessary?

Gene, I've deleted a few ads that I  posted and it lowered my post count. will our post count change once the ad post is deleted?  I see there are a few here that sell allot.

I have set up a Child Archieve Gate now where all the old posts on the Classifieds will be recycled to the new gate where everyone will have access to them in the future.

As always we try our best to improve the GTA with your helpful suggestions. And as always this is your home and feel free to suggest improvements.

Gene, I hope you did not interpret my last post as a criticism.  I, personally, don't want to see the GTA classifieds as restricted as the Yellow's.  They are continually changing the rules there and some of them are confusing, etc.  As in most things, less is more.

BTW, if only a few members here would adhere to the current rules (including moderators  ) such changes would not be necessary.

I totally agree with everyone on the classifieds where non buyers will post things and push the sale item down. David aka Rocker1 has been exclusivly chosen to moderate the GTA Classifieds now. He he will delete un wanted chatter withing the posts and will also delete all old classified posts as well. Those posts will be stored in the Child Archive Classified Gate from now on.

Members posting in the classifieds will not lose there posts counts.
