DIY Tuning Big Cat

(1/2) > >>

Dogbone:
Is this the kit, I'd need to do my own DIY tune up?   http://www.airrifleheadquarters.com/catalog/item/251488/7910058.htm

I was thinking, of the just getting the seals and lube, and reusing my spring. <--- your thoughts???

Having had my Cat for about four years,, it DOES have the metal trigger.  But I have NOT shot even a full tin of lead thru it. So far about 3/4 box of Crossman Pointed Premium grade pellets,, and I have a box of Beeman Kodiak Extra Heavy's,,, that I have shot maybe 40-50 of.  Total Est maybe 400 or so rounds.

What are you thoughts on the felt cleaning pellets?  I've read to shoot 2 at a time in the 1000FPS guns, and have only done this once.
But I was wondering if this was a sales gimmick, and I should clean like other guns, as to not do damage to the CAT like a dry fire would?

Ok Now I'll stop with the ?'s and wait for the Insight! =D   Thanks Guys in advance.

Alrighty! For the cleaning pellets DO NOT shoot them through! Push them woth weed eater cord or if you have a 177 cleaning rod.

Id get the full kit and replace the stock spring. Macarris spring are solid. My big cat got left cocked for 2 weeks and still shoots hard and accurate. Also a tuned spring is alot smoother to shoot. While your in there deburr everything that has been stamped cut drilled or punched at the factory. A dremel with soft green stone works well. After all the edges are smoothed out clean it then clean it again. Dont want 1 tiny peice of metal ruining your hard work. Warm the seal so its easier to install. Warmwater or stil it in your pocket will warm it up. Lite coat of molly on he piston head the lay the seal on a flat surface and press down on the piston while you rotate it and the seal pops right on. Slide the piston in and add tar to the spring and insert. Fill the stock with self expanding foam through the hole in it right by where the trigger screw gos in. Perfect hole and fills from the but plate up. Use some veggy oil on he stock so the foam that comes out will not stick to it.

And last but not least the best thing you can do is put the grt 3 trigger in.

All of this will have you amazed at how nice that gamo can be and its around $100 if you do itt yourself.

That tune kit comes with the tarantula spring which requires a custom spring guide.  If you want a drop in spring replacement that uses the stock GAMO spring guide then get the E3650 spring.

Roger that!!  on the cleaning pellets,,,Thanx   I did D/L the GAMO DIY Tune Up Doc. written by Mr Tuna,, and I know I can do all the work.  I'd love to swap out the stock plastic stock, with a Wooden one, as I like that look.
And is weighting the stock the goal or just filling it with the foam to lesson the hollow sound?

20 years of body work, and I have the tools, and items to debur / clean everything. Just gotta build a spring compressor,, and order some parts.

While you have it open, I'd be inclined to go ahead a replace the spring, if you want an improved spring, and most of us do, lol. If you haven't even shot a full tin of pellets, it probably doesn't need cleaning.
