Basic NP Crosman - better than I expected

Bought a used Titan NP in .22 yesterday.  Rifle came with a GRT III trigger but no glass.
I pirated a Hammers 3-9x32 AO from another rifle and took it to the basement for a few test shots.

Other than a few occasions where the barrel didn't quite close - a combination of a light touch and lack of lube - the rifle cocked, locked up, loaded and fired with a quality feel, and was quite accurate.

It's light even with the scope on it and the cocking arm doesn't rattle when the gun is given a shake.
It's making 14-15 fpe with 16 grain AA's and shot them well.  Despite the lack of sights, this may be a very appropriate small game rifle for me.

It was a bit of an impulse buy, but I had wanted one of these in a small way since I missed out on one many years ago.  If I had known I would like it so much I would have acted sooner.

I was very surprised at the power and accuracy of the basic Crosman NP rifles (BMK-19?  Not certain).  Honestly the stock trigger was not as bad as I was lead to believe but I did the roller bearing mod on both of mine anyway.  I got these two guns to hunt small game with.  The .177 cal Crosman Fire has already taken two squirrels and I don't really consider it a squirrel gun.  Just happened to be handy when a squirrel made a target of itself.
The Vantage is certainly one of the better looking NP Crosmans.  The stock for the Fire is actually very functional although I don't care for the plasticy, tactical look.  I stuck my .177 cal Fire in a Prowler stock and I much prefer the fit and the look.  The other one stayed in the factory stock but acquired a shortened .22 barrel.

The .177 is running CPHP at 926 fps for a very useful 15 fpe and the .22 is pushing 16gr Norma GTFT to 700 fps for 17.3fpe. (Spread 4.  Stdev 1.4).
Not too bad for a cheap Chinese air rifle!

Need to correct myself - it's a Titan GP, and from what I've just read it's likely the lower power version of the Titan.
If full power versions are making significantly more than 14-15 fpe without being detrimental to accuracy, then I'd be even more impressed.

Two with GRT trigger and four with the RC roller bearing trigger mod and all but one with no sight and steel muzzle breaks. They're all tac drivers.

Probably could have but got them off Ebay. I was thinking about ordering from Crosman some Remington Summit or 777SB stocks. They look better but too shinny, would have to refinish. And Summit metal trigger guards and GRT triggers. But the roller bearing works about as good.

I've had a few NP rifles and even purchased a few as gifts for family/friends. They're fantastic utility guns in my opinion, as they don't need much maintenance, function well in extreme conditions and have respectable power/accuracy. Sometimes they do need a little tlc (and maybe a cut off wheel ) to get the most out of them, but that could be said about almost everything. Nowadays my preference leans towards coil springs over gas rams, but my experience with the Crosman/Benjamin NP platforms has been positive overall. Hope all of you enjoy the ones you have for years to come.

  Back when Gander Mt. sold their Quest guns for about half price, I bought a .177 and a .22cal.  After putting in GRT gold triggers, Summit metal trigger guards, Thompson Center rear sights & JM springs and seals, they shot so smooth and accurate I just had to find nicer wood stocks.  Gamo USA was selling out their wood stocks, so I got two of those and only had to plug the front mount holes and elongate the recesses a slight bit. Then drill new holes to the tube about 1/8" higher.  They were all based on B19 China rifles and stocks usually can be made to fit.  The Gamo stocks are nicer wood.  They look like Beech to me.  I bought these to learn to work on springers without messing up some expensive gun and I just like to tinker.  That's half the fun of airguns to me.   The .22 has taken a bunch of Ground Hog Pests before a got a PCP.
