Why are people obsessed with SHTF planning

i think real world shtf scenarios would be more like a social/economic collapse, see e.g Venezuela
though not likely to last as long maybe a few months to a couple years, having basic meds and canned food for this period is what most would need, yet few have it available so hunting would have a space for sure as well as home defense

cataclysm could very well be a trigger just look how frequency of rocks hitting the earth increases dramatically each year for the past few decades

economic collapse is more likely to be orquestrated and goods be exchanged by the government for "niceties"

I was raised by parents that grew up in the great depression. Being prepared was instilled in me from the beginning. In the 70's we were snowed in for six weeks went through the month of January of 93 with only a week of power. I am also a realist  fighting of zombies and living off venison is a pipe dream stay unnoticed, big game won't last long it took until the nineties for deer turkey and bear to recover from the depression in Appalachian mountains.small game is what fed people and an air gun is quite enough to not draw attention

You would not believe how many city people are buying up property up where I live but don't have the slightest idea on how to survive here.

 Not a one is aware of what is an available resource in their own back yard they are ruining.

Yep, that's what it will be like here if tshtf. Problem is we just don't have that many rabbits around here because of all of the yotos and forget squirrels. I've only seen a couple in the 3 1/2 years I've lived here. There is a pretty good size elk heard not to far away but they won't last long.

If you follow any type of news you'll have pretty good idea how people will react in a crisis situation. During any natural disaster you have people who dig in as soon as possible to begin their recovery, you also have the people who stand around screaming that the government is there to take care of them. I not including the elderly or folks who are unable to help themselves. The good people will help them because that's what good people do. I like to think that my upbringing and my time as a first responder taught be to be one of the "good people". In this forum I know there are alot of other "good people" as well.

my wife doesn't move very fast and since her stroke she can't walk on uneven ground without assistance.  i had my knee replaced 2 years ago and it's worse than before.  if the shtf, we would be some of the 1st casualties.  that's okay.  my plan?  keep enough ingredients to make a huge white russian, then sit back and wait for the flash.

I grew up in Florida during the cold war. REMEMBER! Havana is only NINETY MILES from Miami!  I took "Americanism Versus Communism" in high school, like everyone else.  I about memorized "Alas Babylon".  That "duck and cover" thing may be a joke to y'all but we took it darned serious. On yeah, we get stomped regularly by monster storms.  Giant billboards on the interstate say Hurricane? HAVE A PLAN.  We have had to evacuate six times in ten years.

Well you be surprised how many people don't prepare for natural disasters.  So some planning is good.

Without getting too political, our economy is crashing esp here in Canada, they're trying to disarm us ( without a 2A not much we can do ) China is taking over us, we even have Chinese police and Military operating in Canada and our military is the thinnest it has ever been. With alot of our stuff donated to Ukraine. So the whole Red Dawn doesn't look too far out.

We unfortunately take things for granted, and think it won't happen here. Also my grandfather grew up near the border of Northern Ireland. My other grandfather survived the Halifax Explosion that destroyed the city of Halifax IN 1917. When simply 2 ships collided in the harbor.

And that really is the bottom line.

As for SHTF scenarios, there's many and some are survivable in the right circumstances ( to much to go into details now )

But like having a gun that probably you will never use in your lifetime is better to have one then not if that one instance that you need it occurs.


I'm a prepper at heart even without the SHTF thing, I like have spares for everything ( that is why all my airguns are of the same brand, I can keep some going regardless of what happens )

I'm transitioning to electrical vehicles and my own solar generator so I have to depend on nobody is things break down.

I have several bags that I put together in 2017. Now I've changed my mind and will be bugging in. I personally think if your meant to survive you will. With that in mind...skills and moxy are going to be king.

At the property I'm working now, pretty much I'm managing and developing the property there's a well and the land sits on a huge water table also we are installing solar panels with batteries, there's a pond with fish and I'm making a second pond with the back ho that we will connect with a canal.

property is half mile from a very remote part of the coastline with a ton of marine life, on the opposite side there's good hunting grounds, we have over 100 coconut trees on property and several fruit trees, and I'm planing more weekly, on the pond we have a lot of taro.

This would be a great property to hunker down, and I like you think the a good place to hunker down and defend is much better then bugging out and wandering.

Yeah, it's the same here, scrape off the trees to bare dirt and cover in grass, see how that taste. So now all the critters move in with ya, you fry in the summer or get flatten by a hurricane with no trees, Nothing to eat, no shelter, lets see how long you are going to last when it's all over.

We live on a sand hills ridge surrounded by swamp only seven miles from the Gulf.  Only one mile from the bay and salt marshes.  National forest on one side, National wildlife refuge on the other.  We're on a bluff above a tidal river.  Our antique farmhouse is sturdy but it won't stand 150 mph winds and 16' storm surge.  We've had a couple of graphic examples of nature's power here in the last ten years.  So we take no chances.  The odds are good that we could return from an evacuation and find our home destroyed.  Short of a natural disaster we are prepared to stick it out here.  We have our own well and a large, year round garden.  We have the bounty of the woods the river and the bay as well. All three of our out buildings will be entirely solar powered by next year and we are contemplating a battery system that could power the well pump.

While I think an air rifle is an excellent survival tool for a homestead if the zombie apocalypse forces me to bug out the air guns get left behind.
