Why are people obsessed with SHTF planning

If S really hits the fan things will come undone so extremely that nothing you've planned for will matter. If you're the type to spend 5k on an airgun, you ain't gonna make it anyway. Got a wife? Kids? Majority of them are dead weight in a survival scenario and most "men" will collapse and shut down the moment one of them is dispatched. If you can't even handle the typed words in that paragraph without having the emotional reaction I know you're having then stop obsessing over what airgun you'll need if shtf because you'll never be ready.

I wonder. If you don't have a plan then the immediate time after the event would be spent in panic or wonder at what to do now   plan may not be perfect and will without doubt fail to cover a strange reality but a plan can be changed or modified  So says the sage who realy has no plan but plenty of what if moments. Maybe I should have an airgun part of a plan because I sure cant catch a rabbit on foot

My bag has a good first aid kit, eating tools stuff to make a little tea , power bank, writing stuff . Extra flashlight and knife wet wipes hand sanitizer. tissues.  My bicycle trunk bag is usually in the vehicle that has some basic tools in it

    Even though OPIE is no longer with us…..Im waiting on the Rapture …..no bag or plan needed….having said that,natural disasters I can weather even at soon to be 76…Armageddon most like likely will take a lead pill….lol..good luck

Very true lol. My bag just has a few necessities. Lighters, cotton balls with Vaseline in a pill bottle with 0000 steel wool, that will start a fire usually.  A small first aid kit. A bandanna, a small bag with fishing line etc, I figure if I'm really hungry fishing is readily available because I live in florida. Hooks, line, weights an a couple corks and fish are coming. And the most important thing of all, wet wipes lol. Other things rotate depending on where I'm going or what I'm doing. Oh a little "emergency  blanket" , not really that cold here but it also makes a nice lightweight tent and can be seen easily. More of a woods bag than a shtf set up. Those big bags sound great, but imo are too heavy to carry for a walk through the woods. What good is all the planning in the world if you don't have it on you?
Edit: I know you don't need corks for fishing,  but you can wrap the line around a cork and poke the hooks in and it stays contained.

Just a idea if anyone is interested. If your packing wet wipes you can reduce the space they take up and the weight by "dehydrating" them. Hang on a line strung up outside until dry then pack away. When needed add a bit of water and your ready to go. It's a backpacking thing for traveling light.

You said exactly what I was thinking while reading through this thread. If something happens leaving you only enough time to grab a bag on the way out the door I'm pretty sure nothing in that bag is gonna solve your problem. I'm probably in a better shape to shelter in place and take my stand right here. A pantry full of can goods and bottled water is more likely a better option than anything you can carry... beside.. where ya going? For me, I'm already in the woods and I can promise you, I know them much better than you do.

Same here. I'm VERY well armed, plenty of ammo and I reload,  well stocked canned goods in pantry, pond across the road stocked with fish. Creek nearby for water. I'm not budging.
