Tennessee Squirrel Hunting Season
This morning, my Judy told me the temperature at dawn was supposed to drop to 51ºF.  That is cool enough to put the Chiggers (Red Bugs) and Ticks down.  I gathered together the gear that I decided necessary for a successful hunting experience.  About 5:30 a.m., I was ready to go.  By 6:10 a.m. I was in my first stand of the morning.  It was not light enough to shoot yet - PERFECT!  About 30-minutes later I saw the first two squirrels of the morning.  The second one came down a tree and posted up on a naked limb.  It started watching me.  She watched me until she died.  The Marauder spoke to her with an 18.13 gr JSB through the shoulder and out the neck.  After skinning and gutting the Gray, I moved on at a slow walk.  I saw several more and shot at three of them.  However, none of those fell.  About 9:30 a.m., a breeze started to move the leaves around - and there went my advantage.  And it had warmed up by that time.  So, I headed back to the truck.
Note:  While hunting, I would occasionally smell something sour.  I discovered later that it was Paw Paws. https://www.google.com/search?q=Paw+Paw+fruit&oq=Paw+Paw+fruit&aqs=chrome..69i57.5967j0j7&sourceid=chrome&ie=UTF-8      Does anyone know if these are okay for human consumption?

Mike...Happy Hunting this season.
Nice shot on that squirrel.
Things have stated to cool down here too and the leaves are starting to change color.

Best Wishes - Tom

Bicycleman:
Howdy, Tom - it is good to hear from you.
It is strange how the trees here drop their leaves.  There are some that are already naked; and others are showing NO Fall color at all.
Yes, it was a fun hunt.  The next hunt may be a week or more away though, because it is predicted to be warming up again.
Shoot straight, my friend.

Hunting at 80  That has to be good   i am aiming for that. I reckon i'll get there   no squirels here but plenty of rabbits   i had a spell off shooting with a broken arm and the neighbours were saying you better get out there, you were making a difference

ranchibi:
