Hector,
Murphy's Law prevails. Nice pictures. Sorry about your issues.
Do you need to take the gun apart for transport?

Thank you all for reading!
@Yogi.- I have found that it is unavoidable to have the gun cases handled properly at airports. It is just a long and obnoxious box for the baggage handlers. With the new SOP's enforced by agreement of all the countries in the UN, "firearms" now need to be handled by HAND. Meaning that they cannot be delivered to the belt where all other baggage comes out. Consequence of that is that some airports are charging an "Inspection and handling" fee, others are not, but this ends up causing unhappiness to the baggage handlers that need to do this "for free".
AND the "manual" side starts and ends at the tarmac right under the door that leads to the belly of the plane. So, even "firearms" get loaded onto the inclined conveyor belt that takes the things from ground level to plane height (in some planes as little as 5' in others as much as 20'.
Because these conveyors belts are "moveable" they are not as robust as they should be and, when loaded, they oscillate as badly as the Tacoma Narrows bridge. Gun cases are usually, not completely flat because shooters seem to think that overpacking with foam means that the gun is better protected (not so, it only makes the case "fat" enough to be able to teeter-totter.
SO... you have an oscilallting moving thing that is moving something that goes up doing a see-saw dance.
Result? sometimes the case "walks" off the ramp and falls all the way to the ground.
The shorter the case, and the better packed it is (cutouts for the components, or compartmentalization of things packed), the less chance there is for this "death dance" .
That is why I disassemble the gun for travel.
In 13 years of travelling with my gun all over the place, I've had TWO cases destroyed, but have never had a stock broken or a scope banged and broken, or any other complete disaster. On this occasion, the loss of the buttplate part, was really an opportunity for improvement for my Polish friend that makes them and, from now on, we will be including "captive" screws, so that the parts can come OUT but cannot come APART.
Again, thanks to all for reading!
HM
