Tumble Deburring
Ronno6:
The great test is on......
I turn 2 aluminum parts, about 3/4" in diameter.
Deburring has always taken some time.
So I acquired a Frankford Arsenal vibratory ammo tumbler, loaded with medium grit 18/40 ground walnut shell
and popped some parts in without touching them with a file.
Now we'll see how long it'll take to deburr and ready for use.
Any ideas on how long to tumble??
AmBraCol:
I'd think that wet tumbling with stainless steel pins would debur more effectively. I've only used walnut for polishing so have no idea how it'd go for deburring. Looking forward to your results.
Ronno6:
Didn't debur much, but...pretty!
Phoebe:
IMO tumbling is good for polishing but not as quick/effective for traditional deburring. I'd caution against SS pins if the parts have features you want to keep "crisp". Also you probably know there are many specific tools for deburring round parts.
Ronno6:
Yeah, looks like I'll just keep touching the corners with a file while on the lathe.......
2-1/2 hrs in the walnut shells makes the parts real pretty!
