Late 1950's Daisy Model 80 - What oil to use for a vintage BB gun piston?

(1/2) > >>

SouthBender:
Hi all,

I have a late 1950's Daisy Model 80 in excellent shape, seems mechanically perfect, except I think the piston is dry, dry, dry. What is the correct oil to use for it?

There is a little hole on the side of the barrel tube that says, "Oil Here"... I'm just not sure what oil is best.

DIAMOND:
30W non-detergent I believe. Wait for others to reply.

Pics would be welcome.

SouthBender:
Thanks, Stephen. I'll wait for someone to confirm before I go with the 30W non-detergent.

I've seen that recommendation for pump guns in general. Is that something I go buy off the shelf in the auto section at a box store? Or is it more specialized than that?

Methuselah:
WallyWorld carries it. One quart is a lifetime supply. I pour some into an empy pancake syrup bottle from cracker barrel and fish out a drop or two at a time with a stripped piece of 14 awg copper electrical wire.

SouthBender:
Ok. Thanks, Methuselah. I will get some and try it.

Stephen, I forgot to attach an image in my last post.
