660fps were with 8 pumps but with 13.73 gr. pellets. So, it would have been about 645-650 with 14.3, if my memory is correct. I have owned a few that would equal or better that & were unmodified. I had a '62 that I owned for many years, that would shoot around 670. I loved that one, but parted with it to a fellow member who was looking for one that was scoped.

Yet another beautiful example, congrats on saving it from hiding away in someone's closet.

I'm a Sheridan guy in that I think they're the greatest air rifle ever made and won't hear otherwise, but I'm not a collector of them because I can't afford to be and because Ol' Blue is the only one I need.

I too can vouch for Tim's work, he also has the best most comprehensive rebuild kits.

I resealed my junk shop find 71 Sheridan Blue Streak with Mac1 seal kit. It shot in the 690s FPS at 8 pumps 14.3g pellets for a while. A year or so later now it's shooting at 680fps with the Binjamin 14.3g cylindrical pellets. For some reason it shoots the same with the 13.73g JSB pellets. I thought it would be more with lighter pellets. It may be the skirt has more resistance in the barrel with the JSB. It was only hitting 640fps until l got the Mac1 adjustable piston rod installed. Eleminating head space with that got another 40fps.

Here are three rifles rescued by Tim McMurray. The two lefty's had separated barrels. The bottom rifle is a Mac1 steroid conversion. All three rifles exhibit outstanding workmanship.

Personally, I don't feel the need to boost the power of a Sheridan by " Steroiding." Every time I hear that word I cringe & think about what it has done to sports. An original Sheridan shooting 600 -660 fps on 8 pumps is plenty enough for me. If I wanted more, I would opt for a PCP rifle.

I had one of my Streaks "Steroided", but as a practical matter, I don't think the gun is really any better. Sheridans (and Bejamins) are pretty sturdy already and I really have no need for extra power, as I seldom put more than 5 pumps into mine. If I wanted more power I would opt for a powder burner--a steroided Streak on 10 pumps is almost as loud as a .22 anyway.

Me either, but high power isn't something I seek in an airgun anyways.

I use 3 pumps in my Sheridans for setting the sights, 5 for small game , & up to 8 for larger game or longer distance shooting . I don't see a use for any more power than that.

Six is about the most I need as it will hit a little over 600fps at 6 and 4 for tin cans etc. Two more to get to 8 are twice as hard for the extra few fps unless I'm shooting at a large size pest. For that I usually go to my .25cal PCP anyways. There is just something about the feel of a vintage Sheridan Streak when you pick it up and shoulder it that is hard to beat in an air rifle.

Normally 5 and rarely 6. Not only do i not need to, I don't want to either. I shoot airguns for fun not exercise.

It costs more money to upgrade it, than just a rebuild. The standard parts were not designed for that.
It is your rifle to do what you want with it.
