Reflex "red dot" sight

(1/2) > >>

Ronfiveo:
I just bought and mounted a CVLIFE 1X22X33 Red Green Dot Gun Sight Scope Reflex Sight with 20mm Rail on my Browning Buck Mark .177cal pistol.
It's a little tricky to get the image centered on the lens.

I have a few questions of course about how to aim correctly or basically how to use it properly to actually hit the target consistently.

Do you use both eyes or just your dominant eye?

It seems that the aiming image is distorted unless you have it exactly centered on the lens, but even that  seems to be difficult.

I know that practice will make it easier and more proficient, but there's got to be a right way and a wrong way.... I seem to be doing it the wrong way. :)

Is there a trick or tip that will help in using a "red dot" reflex scope?

Here's what I mounted :

Thanks for all your help.

It doesn't really make much difference whether you use one eye or both, just whatever is most natural/comfortable for you.  I'm not sure what you mean by "aiming image".  Do you mean the whole picture that you see through the sight?  On the linked page, clicking on the second image from bottom in the column of pictures at the left of the main picture brings up a video that, at about 48 seconds, shows moving the sight around on the target with no distortion.  However, keep in mind that it is a pretty inexpensive sight and that may be an issue.  Additionally, the sight may be defective.

My reflex sight, a Browning Buckmark sight at about twice the cost of yours but still inexpensive, shows no distortion when moved around.

I was refering to the image of what was projected onto the lens, circle, dot, circle with cross hairs and dot, crosshairs with dot... etc., not the sight picture or sight image.

I saw the same video and several on YTube and I think it's called "Parallax corrected" but this being a very inexpensive sight that would not be totally accurate.
They also stated that it's not Parallax  proof, and it does move or distort a little, but that little bit makes you miss the target.

The sight itself is ok, I even managed to hit a mouth wash cap from about 50' 3 times out of 5, but a lot of that was probably luck involved.

Practice is helping , and I think like everything else, it's the only way to get proficient at anything.

Thanks for your help and input.

Ron

Edit: I just confirmed that 100% luck was involved in hitting the cap..... just went outside and tried again and it was 0 out of 5. :D

The blurry image may being caused by a slight astigmatism in your eyesight. Even with corrective lenses I still can't use a red dot due to my eye sight.

I didn't think of that.
I do use readers but only for reading small print.

Thanks for that thought.
