The wire reticle is a single piece of etched metal at a single focal plane. I've never seen a horizontal wire in different focus than the vertical. I have seen where the reticle is in focus but the rest is not or where the center of the image is in focus and the outboard edges of the image are not. Never seen a front and rear reticle wire.
I'd agree, you should be able to identify those birds @ 10-15 yards no matter the scope, as long as it's correctly focused.
