Yup, this was one of the previously mentioned exceptions.

On ocular adjustment and wire retical, nope, they may appear in focus if the adjustment is between them but they will not be. Play with that focus and watch closely, one or the other can be sharply in focus...

I'm blessed (cursed? ) with excellent closeup vision...

I'm at a loss to understand you. The occular is to adjust the reticle to your eye. The reticle is at the focal point of the oprics. If the reticle is sharp the image should be sharp. If the image isn't sharp it's because the scopes parallax is fixed or adjusted at too far or close a distance. Properly focusing a scope is one of the most commonly misunderstood things I see at the range. I'd say 80% or more don't know how to do it. Can't tell you how many times I've heard people complain about their blurry new 500 dollar leupold because they didn't know how to focus a scope.

You should be able to identify a hosp with any bargain glass airgun scope and a bird book at the ranges you specified. They're pretty easily identified. I used to shoot them all the time. Very distinct features both male and female.

techted:
I'd agree, you should be able to identify those birds @ 10-15 yards no matter the scope, as long as it's correctly focused.

For etched yes, wire no. Back ocular eyepiece adjustment will focus on only one wire crosshair. Don't take my word for it, try it.

The hawke 2-7x in etched ir or wire non ir show up on sale at dvor now and then. I have one on a d48 and one on a dragonfly. Happy with both.
