Visiting the UK- can I bring an airgun back to the USA?

If you think the UK is unreasonably strict with their airgun laws of max. 12FPE — you'll think again hearing that the German gubermint prohibits any airgun with more than 6FPE power. — SIX foot-pounds!!
You might as well forget airgunning all together.... 😖 

No shooting at any animals ever — not even a HOSP in your backyard.
In the UK, you can (comparatively) easy get a gun license to go over the 12FPE limit.
But in Germany, they have some many ludicrous legal loops you need to jump through (easily costing the price of a PCP), it's virtually not feasible. 😖







So, here's my advice:
▪ Take the gun apart, or pay the gun store to do it for you.
▪ Separate the action from the barrel and the air reservoir. If the grip comes off, better yet.

▪ Pack the action and some other small parts in one suitcase. Pack the barrel and air reservoir in another. If traveling with more than one person, spread the suitcases over several travel companions.

▪ PCP: Of course, make sure the airtube or bottle is empty. Best would be if the tube or bottle was open on one end to allow for a visual inspection, not just a gauge check.

And most people on the forums report the stuff gets to the US quicker than getting a shipment from PA to their US address....
And most people have not had any hickups with customs (with rare exceptions).

Posting guns inside the UK is usually by Parcel Force ( better known here as Parcel Farce).

I’m not ensure today or what is entailed these days but UK shooters could in the past go abroad with their guns of all types.

A certain Micky Andrews back in late 80s/90s went to the USA with his sub twelve  AA Shamal and achieved a runner up placing in the American National  Field Target Championships.I think he also won the World Field Target Championship in the USA?

I have 2x Air rifles I left in the UK when I moved to the USA.
Ive owned them since prob 1974-76..
A Webley Vulcan and a Wiehrauch HW80.
Both legal 12ftlb units, that will prob need restoration now.
I am going back in August to see my parents, and want to bring them back, in my checked baggage, or maybea a TSA approved gun case if needed.
I am comfortable with dissembling if needed, or maybe to fit in a suitcase.

Anyone know the rules?

I would check with a UK airgun dealer to ask about local regulations.  As far as Airlines, you will need a TSA approved case.  You will need to contact the airline before hand.  You will need to checking in early and perhaps show your airgun.  Pack pellets separately.  Airlines may require proof of ownership.  HTH?
Otherwise, rent a car.  Drive to Holland. Either ferry or Chunnel.  Mail them back to yourself here in the States.
