I have very little experience shooting pistols, but I was reliably hitting beer can sized steel blanks at 35' using a Ruger 22lr target pistol at my club range a few months ago. This week I went to the "city" and took advantage of the indoor range while I was there and rented some PB pistols. I'm not sure if it was because the pistols were rentals, or what, but I could barely keep the shots on a standard sized piece of paper at 20-25'! I had a lot of fun, so now I'm really motivated to find a fun air pistol that won't break the bank, preferably in semi-auto.

Were any of the rentals target pistols, I imagine trigger pull was a bit heavier ???
This is a decent gun IMO only semi auto blow back pellet pusher I have.

One great thing about offhand pistol shooting is you never get "bored of shooting one hole groups".

One was a DA/SA  357 revolver, which I shot the best out of the four, the rest were 9mm autos. Decent triggers on all of them, I'm just not at all practiced in shooting PB handguns. I suppose I did well with the Ruger 22lr pistol because it has very minimal recoil and made for target shooting. I did order an Umarex HDR50  CO2 pistol, but not exactly what I had in mind when reading this thread. My partner is traveling alone and I wanted her to have something, just in case. It may be fun to use for plinking as well, but it is a DA only revolver and I'm not sure how accurate I'll be with it! I'm sure my partner and I can muster "minute of attacker" in the extremely unlikely event that ever happens, but I do want something that could be fun for 10m "competition". It turns out I find it fun to do things I'm not normally good/practiced at in regards to recreational shooting.

I'm salty there's nothing like the Crosman 600 on the market today, but I suppose it would not be the best tool for 10m shooting either! Looks like a non-blowback 177 replica might be the best bet for a semiauto pellet pistol. Otherwise I look at the Chaser constantly, since I already have it's siblings and I can get it in .22 which I prefer. It's also cheap. I want something that is light and handles like a PB pistol, but isn't a replica, which is a small market.

You should be shooting MUCH better with the AR (FWB 601) than the AP.
The regulation AR vs. AP targets show that.

I suspect your AR technique needs to be improved.

When I first started AR target shooting, I could not even keep all 10 shots on the AR target paper.  I should have been using the larger AP target instead.
My AP shooting was much better than my AR shooting.  But then I had been shooting target AP for much longer, so my AP technique had already been "cleaned up."
After several sessions with an AR coach, I got my AR group size down to easily holding the black on a regulation AR target.  And that was "good enough" for me.

Your FWB-601 is a HEAVY rifle.  Technique is important, to take advantage of the weight of the rifle.

I occasionally get in a zone with my 46M where it drives tacks.  Even sometimes when plinking a tin cans it just cannot miss at surprisingly long distances.   I let my friend shoot it once and he started laughing at how surprisingly accurate it can be.  I love the open sights on it and the trigger is just plain wonderful.
