Snap-In Light Mounts for 20 x 20 Extrusion on Ender-5 S1

I am really liking my new Creality Ender-5 S1, but I find it pretty dark under the print head.... Creality have a light kit for the Ender-3's, but not yet for the 5-S1, so I ordered a meter of COB-LED strip (total about 1000 lumens), and a switch and 12V adapter for a DIY version.... I had a look at the 20mm x 20mm extrusion across the top front, and it has a nice groove just asking for a snap-in mount for the LEDs.... and even better, the larger vertical extrusions on the front corners have the same groove.... I made a few prototypes until I got the right dimensions for a snug, snap-in fit to create angled platforms for the LED strips, which mount with double-sided tape.... I made the top one with a 15 degree angle, to direct the light slightly downwards, and used a 30 degree angle on the sides.... Here are some short samples.... They snap into the groove, using the springiness in the PLA to hold them snug.... If they end up creeping and getting loose, I can always glue them in....
.... The little notches in the corners are so you can get a small screwdriver under the cornet to pop them out....
The 30 deg. one on the left is "as printed", and the 15 deg. on the right has had the seams filed off, as they made it too tight a fit in the groove.... I got my new PEI bed in the mail today, and lengthened the models so that I can get enough length for the LED strips by using two in each location.... The top strip is being printed in two parts....
It will fill the groove between the two corner brackets on the top frame, the lengths are 142mm each, the space is 285 mm.... I won't bother printing the side pieces until I know how long they need to be....

And....the hook is SET. Each new project is a little victory and really drives home the amazing capability hiding in that printer.
No escape for you now Bob...

I got the COB light strip, switch and power supply from Amazon.ca, cut them up to fit and rewired them.... While doing that I printed up the 30 degree angled side mounts, and then put everything together.... The mounts snapped tightly into place in the slots in the frame extrusions, and the lights are secured by the double sided tape that comes on them.... Here is a photo of the installation.... The switch is mounted with double-sided tape inside the bottom corner....
There are two strips on the top, angled down at 15 deg., and one strip on each side, angled in 30 deg.... Here is a closeup of one corner....
The copper dots every inch on the sides of the LED strips are where you can cut the strip with scissors (through the centre of each dot) and then solder on wires to double up, or turn a corner.... Use a small, printed circuit tip, thin resin core solder, pre-tin the wires, scrape the contact patch and tin it, allow to cool and then solder quickly to not harm the strip....
These COB (Chip-On-Board) LEDs are way brighter than the older type.... These strips are available in 5V, 12V or 24V versions, with different LED densities, which have different wattage and lumen ratings.... The one meter long strip I bought was 9 watt, 12 volt, and rated at 900 lumens per meter (more light than a 60W equivalent LED bulb, which are typically 800 lumens).... Before....
After....
