Evanix Windy City

(1/2) > >>

Carl:
I received my new Evanix Windy City from PA a couple of days ago.  She was double boxed and had egg foam inside along with 2 mags one fill adapter and a manual.  First look, the metal work is nice as is the lumber.

As you can see I put a Leapers 6x24 56 AO with side wheel on it, and later a caldwell bi-pod.
Went out to sight her in at 2yds and the first shots were about 6" low and 3" right. I adjusted the rear scope mount up 1.5 turns and that brought me in close to the vert zero and just a few clicks to get the horizontal zero.

With the Chrony I got.
H&N Barracudas
Low-954 High -974 Avg- 963 Avg FPE- 43.46
The barracudas were passing through a 19" thick archery target a loose hanging carpet scrap and buried in to 5/8th particle board. The few that didn't make it into the board were pretty much unharmed and showed deep rifling marks on the head and skirt. Below is a picture of the back of the archery target, the stringers hanging out are the exit points for the barracudas.

Predators
Low - 1000 High - 1031 Avg - 1016 Avg FPE - 36.68
The Predator Poly mags POI was slightly higher than the Barracudas. They shot in a slightly larger grouping than the barracudas. When I removed the target, the entry for the predators was much larger than the barracudas. I did not recharge the bottle after shooting the barracudas so the FPS is a little low but still smoken.
H&N Crow Mag
Low - 980 High - 1021 Avg - 1002 Avg FPE - 40.36
The Crow Mags were a 1.75" group with 10 shots, but I was just shooting for the Chrony so maybe they could be better
JSB Exact Jumbo Heavy
Low - 976 High - 1019 Avg - 1000 Avg FPE - 39.98
The Jumbo Heavy was a one holer with 10 shots, maybe .75" but again I was shooting for the chrony.

The lightest pellet I would shoot with this is the 16 gn predator. I have lighter pellets but going supersonic is not what I am after. When I figure out how to tune her down a little I will try some of the lighter pellets.

I was able to compare her with some of the higher end pellets rifles today and yes there is a quality difference. Where I would not hesitate to carry the windy city into the woods or across the fields. I would with the ones I saw today.
As compaired to the FX Royale the royale has a much nicer stock. The side lever action is butter smooth and just a very nice gun. The mag is spring loaded plastic which I think is why the side lever is smoother. The windy city side lever indexed the magizine as well as loaded the pellet.
I also got to shoot a Daystate Air Wolf today and well, that was just a pleasure. It was a rear bolt action and very very smooth.
I did not have a chance to compair grouping or power or shot count. That would be a all day affair and I just didn't have the time. Hopefully I will get another chance to shoot these fine weapons again.
Compairing the Windy City to the Mrod. The WC has a much smoother action, nicer thumbhole stock, better machining, better accuracy.(I did use the same pellets in both). I also like the magazines better as well. I believe that the WC is just a better built weapon. It is twice the price of the Mrod and it shows. Yes you can make the mrod shoot as good but, well why would you?
Okay, now for the things that I don't digg. Magazine consistency, one mag was tight the other the pellets almost fell out. I spent a little time with a dremel tool working on that. I am now wondering if it was ment for a larger pellet. Hmmmmm.
Another thing is I did a lot of searching and there are is not much support factory or aftermarket such as tuning info etc.
The manual is a basic operators manual and that is it. Use the safety that kinda stuff.

Yes I would buy this again.

Please if you have questions ask. I may have missed something.
Thank You
Carl

Joshua A.:
the windy city is one heck of a great ag i had the opportunity to fire one about a week abo, and it was just amazing. congrats on owning one. someday i will be able to afford an air rifle of that quality lol

Pete:
They are a nice gun..but why ever
would Evanix to call it "Windy City"

Pete

Carl:
Not sure about why the call it the Windy City, but it seems like there rifles are named after the weather. Blizzard, Rainstorm, Windy City maybe it is a cultural thing. You have to admit the weather is one of natures most powerful weapons. A Zen thing I guess.

JonnyReb:
Great review on a beautiful rifle.  J
