B&W S45 AEA .457 six shot

I got one of these yesterday. I can only get 2 bullets in the magazines. The spring is fairly stout and only has six coils and is just bigger than the central shaft it wraps around, I can only turn it half a turn, unlike a marauder where the coils are close to the walls of the well that goes over the spring. I also cannot figure out how to decock the gun without letting all the air out. If anybody can help me out with these two problems I would appreciate it. I sent an email to Bintac but haven't received a reply yet. Regards, Tom

As you can see the spring is wrapped pretty tightly around the post, about 1/2 turn is all you get. The spring sitting inside the well has some extra room so the diameter could be bigger giving more clearance on the post. Look how heavy that spring is. It has six coils and I think there is clearance to have seven coils maybe with just a bit smaller wire. Regards, Tom

Yes they are pretty stout, I was winding one of the mags and it flew out of my hand right across the room! I believe the spring needs to be that strong in order to function properly. I ordered some 457 round ball which just arrived in the mail so I hope to test out the gun with round ball this weekend.
That one magazine you have might just be faulty somehow

I plan to make some sort of jig to help hold the magazine and make it easier to load them

The AEA Dealers are super when it comes to customer service. I would just call them and tell them the issue and they’ll take care of you. I’ve had issues with my AEA guns for sure but I keep them because I can get help and parts no issues and they’re simple to work on.

So I just loaded both my mags with roundball. First mag I got 6 into, one the second mag there’s a hard stoppage about half way into the opening for the 6th round so I could only get 5 in that mag total.

I don't know but you could drill another hole to relocate the spring retention to relax it some ...

Well I CAN report that the s45 likes 457 roundball. Cycles very well and sends em clean through 2 2x8…possibly 3 but I didn’t have 3 to try

Hi, got it fixed. I had to go one size smaller music wire #18 to #19 I think and wind it around a 21/64" transfer punch. Just fit in the well that way. Now I have to go normalize it, 1 hour at 450 deg F for one hour in the toaster oven. It's not easy to put the spring in the mag, I had to bend the pegs in towards the center to get captured in the magazine holes. I almost forgot, since the wire is smaller I was able to put one more wrap on the spring. It was 10:30 PM when I got done so haven't fired it yet. I did load the magazine and push them back out, seemed to work OK. A spring manufacturer could probably make one every second or two. I have 2-1/2 hours in the first one. The second one will go much faster. Regards, Tom

With both magazines fixed I shot it six times today with .457 round ball. At 4000 psi the first was 821fps and the last was about 780. I pushed one through and the lands were scribed nicely but the grooves weren't quite touched. I tried to de cock it for storage but it wouldn't do it, I tried pulling it just part way back several times and with the safety on that worked yesterday. I decided to dry fire it once to see if that would work. Magazine was out thank goodness, it fired on full automatic til the air didn't have enough pressure to cock it. About six to eight times. I'll call Bin-Tac tomorrow to see about sending it back for replacement? or repair. Regards, Tom
