I'll attach a couple pictures and some instructions.  You can take it from there.  Unlike many I did set my C clamp vertical in a 2 X 4 instead of on its side in a 2 X 6.

Here is what I made from 3/4" plastic pipe and all thread. The metal at the working end  is just something I found my junk box.
I has worked fine the few times hat I have used it.  I think that metal piece could be replaced with some hardwood or what ever you have handy.
