Lets make a Total Oddball Crosman P-rodish Pistol w/ bottle

  Lol ... Making guns from piles of parts !!

Starting with an old P-rod receiver & cocking bolt .... Added and machined a 19" crosman .22 barrel for the breech o-ring .... Add an old 1701 shorty air tube .... use a crosman valve drilled to transfer exit at @ .125", transfer port & barrel ... Steel end cap with Steel 90* fitting into an On/Off ASA manifold .... Ninja Reg at @ 1400 psi with a prototype SHORT bottle of @ 7 cu in or so.  Grippy taped it becomes the forestock.
Assembled the entire 1701 tube becomes the Plenum, bottle ends right before gauge so we can read plenum pressure and a big gauge at the reg. * as you can see, guns plenum is empty, yet bottle in near full 
Made a full length shroud to fit factory mount, stripper and end cap. set it up to shoot a 14.3 Crosman pellet at @ 800 fps ... pretty dang quiet too.  Crosman Butt stock we have a semi-mini carbine that weights 5 1/2 pounds with the 4x scope !!!

 Are we having fun yet ? ... YES WE ARE !!!

Yes it does ... With the tubes end cap being steel and the 90* being steel there is dang near no way your going to bend or break them.  You could very likely beat the tank against a rock over and over and not even bend it !!!
Issue lies in SIDE / SIDE movement from the threads.  In this case it was assembled with Loc-Tite thread sealant that stops the rotation once cured.  ** Also notice the collars between joints  that spaced & clocked the rotation while the threading makes the seal.  A VERY snug and firm attachment was achieved.

Honestly don’t know if it would have made a difference (other than your spare parts supply) if it were made on a P-Rod tube.  Harder to find the “knee” (air use vs energy) with a giant plenum, but it’s still there.

Do think he’s right about the connection, but if you really wanted a bottle strap/ band, the arse end of the shroud doesn’t do “jack”.

It was cobbled together with parts lying around in boxes. I honestly purchased NONE OF IT having scrounged up the parts and pieces from years of rat holing stuff and donations from friends.
the @ 7cu in stubby bottle equates to @ 114cc of air, plus whats in the 1701 air tube at the lower pressure.  Fair amount of shots to be had tho not tested how many
Do need to BUY ( O' the shame !!! ) a few P-rod magazines and ditch the single shot tray.

The longer prod tube would probably allow for the more commonly found 9ci bottle.

hello Mr Scott, please note the lever action on the end of the bottle. what material is the on off rotary switch made of, aluminum? the aluminum thread breaks quickly. why do your cobbled together parts look better than my new ones? ;-) I am currently working on a similar conversion myself and have not yet found a safe solution for attaching the bottle. greetings Emil

Going to have to call “no fair” on the china comment.

He had that stuff...didn’t have to buy it for the build and could do the assembly/mods/tuning himself.

Excellent way of making a great functioning regulated PCP out of things that weren’t getting used.  I’d not want to buy all that stuff to put one together like it.

THINK I could do much the same to a seldom used p-rod.  Test fitting shows a (cheaper) 13ci bottle will fit the longer p-rod tube.

Have the neglected  P-rod..have the HPA tank….have an ASA on/off that will work….could even make a bottle-band if I thought it was needed.

Older or no (hard to tell with motorhead), think I’ve lost that “spark” that makes me want to do it.

Not too concerned  with taking the bottle on and off...we just fill it in place. 

Not too concerned with the pressure rating of the ASA on/off. They'll blow the 1.8K burst disc if the regulator creeps up too high.  Some ASA on/offs have a 2nd threaded hole where you could add a 2nd 1.8K burst disc if that is what makes you paranoid (two emergency vents better than one).

It is a 3K tube hooked up to a 3K fill bottle....so what matters is getting the connection between the two up to 3K standards.

Ribbonstone, I call my Bandit/Chaser/Stormrider hybrid a "Chiana" because it's made in China but branded Diana. It's just a portmanteau, not political. It just makes me chuckle. As I got used to tinkering with my Bandit a few months ago and getting the proper spring I was impressed by the power, which is just a bit short of the build on this thread. I apologize if I have offended anybody, just trying to relate with my own experience.

You have given me an Idea for those short 7oz bottles, I posted a photo of these double bottled rigs,
but can't find it now, on this site.  I have a box O parts in the shop........ I'll have to go and have a look see...........

I have 4 of them that came with a cross feed air bar etc,
Brand name of "Cooper T" stamped on all the parts, these parts came from a HD Paintballer player.

I can see a "Load on Monday" and "Shoot till Sunday" version target/bench type rifle for Hosp/Starling sniping..... LOL.

The fitting is a USA ""Parker" brand HP fitting rated for 10,000 psi IIRC It's not breaking.  As for the older Paintball spec On/Off ASA is safe as Ribbon stated ... by a 1.8k burst disk on reg, which generally blow out closer to 1600 psi.
The 1/8-27 NPT threads into the ASA are also very deep and actually took them deeper to get full thread engagement. In tapered pipe fittings when snugged up there is near ZERO thread shear with the two parts Male / Female wedged into one another very tightly.



Another mod this morning .... We now have an SSG on the hammer.  It just got quieter and more efficient too.  @ 808 / 810 fps with 14.3's
