Nikon ProStaff NOT the EFR on a springer...?
Kragman1:
Gotcha!
Thanks Bayman. I certainly don't want to wreck a scope out of ignorance.
Looks like I'll be shopping for a 94 scope after all.
Just bought a $300 one for a rimfire, so I'll use the "saving up" time to do a little research.

No problem. What I said about mounting the scope to zero close to the optical center goes for all scopes. Springers are tough on scopes and mounting them to zero close to the optical center goes a long way to extend the life of any scope. I recommend the Hawke Airmax line if its within your budget.
Kragman1:
It could be, but it would max me out.
I'm starting to lean towards a Burris FF2 4.5-14x42. Its more scope than I need but I know they're solid, it has AO and weighs 21oz which isn't much more than whatever 3-9's I'd otherwise be looking at. Can get one now for $166 to my door.
The ballistic plex reticle is OK too.
Kragman1:
Oooops...
On further review, all of the current Burris 4.5-14x42's only dial down to 50 yds.
Thats a deal breaker.
Back to the search....

Dredging up yet another old thread....
I picked up a used Nikon Slughunter 3-9x40 today.
75 yard parallax (wish it were 50) and was very sharp at very close distances at lower magnifications.
A lot of eye relief too (specs say 5") which really shouldn't matter on a springer.
It may go on my D48, either to stay or at least to answer the question about Nikons and springers and/or shotgun scopes and springers.
