I've been shooting the S&W 79g today.
I was shooting it in the backyard but the neighbors got in their pool while I was eating lunch, so I hopped on the minibike and used the opportunity to try it at a longer distance.


I was hitting this cheap 6" sauce pan pretty regularly off hand at 40yds.
I tried to sit and do some rested shooting across the bikes seat, but with the drop at that distance I needed the elevation of a standing position.

Monday I shot my new to me Walther LG 53. Still learning it. Removed the 10 meter sight and scoped it with a 3-9x32 Barska. I'm tickled.

Today I took out a couple of rifle from the late 1980s.  The AIR17 just arrived this morning, and turned out to be in much nicer shape than I expected.  It was advertised as missing the pellet clips, but low and behold, they were in a bag in the butt stock compartment along with the owner's manual and warranty info.  I oiled it up, cleaned the bore and took it out to the backyard.  It averaged 398 fps with 7.5 gr. Daisy pellets, which is about what Crosman advertised them as shooting.  Based on condition, I think I am the first person to actually shoot this one since it was made.

After shooting the ARI17 I decided to break out Daisy's answer to this model.  I picked this 914 up brand new back in 1989 or 90, and have hung onto it for all these years.  (Lot number indicates September 1988 manufacture.)  It's still on it's original seals, and today shot at an average of 312 fps with BBs.  Not too far off from advertised.  Even thought it is pretty limited in power, I have always liked shooting this one because it's actually pretty accurate, and the peep sights are a step up from typical rear sights.

The wire-stocked 814 in the pics doesn't hold air, so it averages 0 fps with pellets or BBs.     I replaced the swiper and seals, but there is still a leak.  The valve body on these is all plastic, and they seem like they were intended as throw aways if they weren't working right.

That's  clearly a model 840 with a cosmetic body kit on it, and I've had trouble trying to reseal the 840 valve as well.
The daisy 1910 of today is a much better gun, single pump version of the model 35 and has a metal valve.

The Crosman air17 like the daisy 814 is also a body kit added to an existing gun, with Crosman the AIR17 is 781 underneath all the cosmetic stuff.
It too has a plastic valve and is just about disposable.

Daisy definitely did a better job of hiding the source rifle under the add ons!

I was considering resealing my 914, but after taking the 814 apart, I want nothing to do with that!  I had the 814 opened up a few times and finally realized it must be the plastic valve causing the leak.  I've got too many other more worthy projects lined up, so this one will eventually be sold when I get around to it.

Today I took out a few pistols for some fun with the chrono and a tin can that just needed to be bounced around the yard.

Daisy 722 - (February 1983 production) This one just arrived and I wanted to check out it's performance.  It shot around 250 fps with an sd of 3, which seems pretty decent.  I know the piston needs adjustment, so I'm pretty positive I can get a few more fps out of it.   At 250 fps, you can watch the .22 pellet lob on out there.  It kind of nudged the can around rather than knocking it over! 

S&W 79g - (1971) I resealed this back in the winter but haven't shot it since.  When I inserted the Co2 cart it had a slow audible leak at first which seamed to go away after about 10 shots.  (I know you're supposed to store these under pressure, but this one lost the last of its gas since May.)  Compared to the 722, this one can tear up a can!  Average muzzle velocity was 412 fps, on a fairly low setting.

Crosman 454 - (December 1975) I resealed this last spring and haven't shot it since.  It's a fun little gun, but it is easy to go through BB's and that has an impact on velocity.  I started at 380 fps, and after dumping 10-15 I was down to the 340s!

I've been doing some shooting/ testing with the slavia 618 after making a spring spacer to give it a much needed boost in power.
Not a huge boost just enough to get it shooting reliably ( so far ).

I was having an issue with often not having enough power to fire a pellet, I replaced the piston and breech seal awhile back and the problem actually got worse.

I enjoy this little rifle for it's low power, easy cocking and easy shooting as long as it's actually shooting anyways, hopefully I've gotten it shooting how it should.
