Target Shooting Matches, Discussion & Events > The Long Range Club

One step closer.

45Bravo:
A friend and I went to the range this morning with full intentions of shooting for score and joining the club.

But 20-25mph winds prevented that from happening.
The target boards are mud flaps from 18 wheelers, and are hung with chains, and were flying in the wind like kites.

After 2 targets and only getting a 5 moa best score, and many LONG Waits between shots waiting for the boards to stop spinning, we decided to scratch the idea for the day and just play.

We started shooting at lumps of clay on the berm at 100 yards, me with my Talon, and him with my .22 rimfire.

We played "follow the leader" I would call a target, and take a shot, if I hit it, I got a point, if I missed, and he hit it, he got a point.

Then it was his turn to call the target, and I shoot cleanup.

Person with the least points buys lunch.

I had only shot the Talon at 100 yards once before.
My drop from 50 to 100 yards was only 1 mildot at 6x.

After about 100 rounds I had learned a lot of the hold off necessary for the winds, Talon at the speed I am tuned for.

I ran another 100 rounds using co2 on the Talon, big difference in velocity, but still very consistent.

I will make the team next time, the rifle us capable of doing it, if the weather cooperates..

Sounds like a great day at the range! Keep up the good work! You will get it the next go around!

I like this idea, how do you attach the targets. I use a T50 stapler, but always looking for new ideas..
