Red Ryder Memories - Anyone Else Have Something Similar?

(1/3) > >>

twb60:
Over 20 years ago, my dad and I were rummaging through the house he grew up in and he found his old Red Ryder BB gun.  He was born in 1934 and probably got the gun around age 10.  It had been used afterwards by other siblings and was in rough condition.  The worst item was the abutment plug was no longer secured in the barrel.  I was able to slip the gun home with me and called Daisy in Rogers, Arkansas.  I talked with a man named Jerry who suggested I ship it to him for inspection.  A couple of weeks later Jerry called me and told me he could split the barrel, weld the abutment plug back in the barrel, rebuild the plunger assembly using the original (and strong) spring since it was a family heirloom.  Long story short story, Daisy did all of that and shipped it back to me for $50.  I could not believe it; the strongest Red Ryder I have ever cocked, everything worked like new, wood stock stained and finished, metal re-blued.  Christmas was right around the corner, so we wrapped it for my Dad.  He was surprised when he opened the box and saw the BB gun from his childhood completely restored and very happy to shoot it again. It still hangs on the gun rack beside his bed. I still have the invoice; Oct 19, 1995 Repair and Refinish Model 111-40; $50. Yesterday, I finally got a picture of him with the Red Ryder Jerry refurbished in 1995. I hope Jerry is still doing well and hope this sparks memories for other GTA members.
