Mrod 22 barrel replacement

Having consistency issues, im not sold on a new barrel yet but if i were to go that route what all would i need?  just the barrel or does it require certain o rings or special tools,looks basic but i wanna make sure i cross my I's and dot my T's

Allen wrenches are what you would need. Check the and the crown first.

Im gonna clean barrel, check crown/baffle for any indications im getting contact, shoot a sample from 3 new tims i got from pyramid air (JSB jumbo, jumbo heavies, and barracuda hunter extremes), if im not getting groups with anything i may consider barrel swap...  this gun used to group great but this season something is off...    it shot fine at a friends house, and he gave me the tin i was shooting from and then that tin shot like &^^& at home....    getting frustrated to be honest, but i also know im not dedicating enough time to sort it out im shooting like 3-6 mags and then getting frustrated and calling it quits, tuesday is my day off and im gona make it mrod day...

If it shot well, and now it doesn't...with nothing drastic happening in between my bet is on cleaning. I have seen some rifles that do very well, and then suddenly need cleaned. Beyond that, check shot string velocity with a chrony if cleaning it does not help.

You will need the small O-ring that is inside the barrel. It seals the bolt. If you need a good 22 M-rod barrel, I have one that groups well with Barracuda match 5.53s. $40.00 shipped. PM me if interested

I would have a tin of 5.53 and 5.54 H&N BM pellets to try. often the factory barrels like larger head pellets.

I have on hand JSO Diablo, Diablo Heay, the only H&N I have is the barracud hunter extreeme, what is the BM exactly?  i swabbed the barrel will no more lead came out, and inspected baffles and crown, I cannot see obvious indications that pellets are hitting any of that.  I did however notice that when loading Diablo Heavies ( my old go to pellet) that alot of them, like 50%, didnt easily fall into the magazine, they hung up and the plastic cover would not slide over unless i pressed them in, it took VERY little pressure but it would seem to me that perhaps the skirts are inconsistent, on the hunter extreeme and the regular Diablo 15.9gr they fell in nicely and sat all the way in the magazine, am i over thinking this, wont have a chance to shoot till later today bu ill report back.

If you can push 2 or 3 different pellets through from the breech end to the muzzle and post a close-up (macro) shot for us to review, that may be revealing.  An example:

My 22 synrod needs the barrel cleaned about once per tin of 500 or it's poi will shift or open up. Once it's cleaned it will go back to dead on within 1 mag. I use a pull through with wd-40 till clean, then use a q-tip and silicone grease to lube the breach o-ring. Am shooting JSB exact heavies, 18.13 and can shoot the numbers out on a birchwood casey shoot n see target at 30 yrds. That's good enough for me. I also found early on that I needed to lube the o-ring on the spacer at the end of the barrel under the shroud, and I keep my shroud tight, although I know others do not, but this is what works on mine. I also found that when I first got my rifle that the shroud was up against the barrel band, and I now have it centered so it can free float without contact. You might look at those things even if it means adjusting your zero again, it made a huge difference in mine when I first got it. If it was on point before I don't think it will suddenly be a bad barrel, and I suspect some of the so called barrel issues could be corrected with a little TLC, although I'm in no way indicating that  Crosman doesn't have a problem with some of them. When some very experienced air gunners have trouble with them, you know there's a problem, but many in-experienced air gunners don't know what to look for, they just assume they have a bad barrel. This forum and the Marauder forum have been a great help to me, and I thank all who have shared their knowledge here.

How does one acomplish this exactly.... it would be interesting, would it work just as well pushing backwards?  That would seem to be easier

Sorry, you won't get the same result pushing a pellet from muzzle to breech.  We need to see how the pellet is formed (or deformed, as it were) as it passes through the leade, by the barrel port, and through the bore.  Starting at the muzzle will form it down to its smallest size right off the bat.

This is best done by removing the barrel from the rifle.  Or if the bolt is easier to remove than the barrel, take it out and pass the cleaning rod in that way to push the pellet through.

In either case you need to remove the shroud, else the pellet will just fall into the baffles as it emerges from the muzzle.

Makes sense, im gonna shoot it first and see how it does before getting into more elaborate diagnostics but thanks for the thought regardless, i'll tuck it in the back of my head if things dont go well tomorrow or tuesday,  before i bought it from my buddy i remeber hitting the same twig with it 5 times in a row at 50 yards so something is amiss....
