New Benjamin Genesis
« on: August 07, 2013, 07:11:27 PM »
Hello,
I bought a new Benjamin Genesis the other day at wally world that had a very weird problem.
This model looks like the Shokey Legacy with the over molded barrel shroud. After a couple of days
playing with it I replaced the scope thinking it was (and still do think) junk. I couldn't get this thing
to shoot better than Minute of 8.5x11 at 30 feet. on a hunch I looked down the barrel from the breach
and could see what looked like a jagged edge at the muzzle. Turns out the enlarged shroud was not
concentric to the bore at the exit. A quick touch of a dremel tool with a carbide burr opened up the plastic
shroud and now I have it shooting into a 2" group off hand at 25 yards ! Not stellar I know but I am rusty
and way out of practice. now the fun of finding out what this beast likes to shoot accurately is
in order. Anyone got a favorite .22 cal brand and type of pellet that would be good for general target use,
with an eye towards small game ?

I am very quickly getting addicted to air gunning, and can see a PCP in my future as soon as I come up with
a good reason  for it that will pass muster with SWMBO !

Mike,

Welcome to our Addiction....

Good work with the Dremel, now what you really need to do is clean the factory barrel, those things come with so much gunk in them is isn't funny.  Don't use powder burner tools and solvents, get a length of weed eater line  cut one end into a point and melt the other flat and use that to pull patches through the barrel, use one patch soaked with Goo Gone then dry patch till clean...

Google "artillery hold" and watch some videos it will help with your accuracy.....

Good luck and keep shoot....
