Valve and Trigger Sear mods on '97 Sheridan Blue Streak

I'm sure that those who have been here for some time have seen these mods before, but for us newer airgun enthusiasts, I'm posting the mods that I just did. I recently acquired two Sheridan Blue Streaks, first a '97 and a couple weeks later a '68. When I got the '68, I noticed that it is easier to pump than the '97. At first I thought that the '68 might have a problem, maybe a weak valve spring, but they both seem to have the same impact when shooting them. After doing some research, I found that Crosman changed the valve components, or should I say, eliminated some. The older ones had two springs in the valve, with a washer between them. The spring on the intake side is weaker than the exhaust spring, this made it easier to pump, but still shoot hard. Crosman, in a cost saving mode I assume, took the weaker spring and spacer out, and replaced them with a little longer exhaust spring. This made it harder to pump since you now have to overcome a much stiffer spring. I found the answer to this problem also, and modded my valve using the link below. Seems that they still make the valve with the old step in it. This site shows how to go back to the two spring method, making pumping easier. While I had it apart, I also did a trigger sear mod I found, also linked below. I now have a Sheridan that is easier to pump, and to pull the trigger. I also found a great video showing how to take the gun apart and put it back together, also linked below. Thanks to all these people that made it possible for me to do this work. I bought a new valve and sear to do the mods before I pulled the gun apart.

I briefly relayed this entire scenario to Crosman Customer Service, CCS for short. Their reply was quite interesting. Apparently, to the best of Crosman's knowledge, the 392/397/or Sheridans have always had just a single spring inside the valve ever since they bought Benjamin in 1995. I told them that there were YT vids out there where folks definitely see 2 springs inside the valve for older guns -- way older than 1995. CCS then went on to say that they never got all the documentation they were supposed to get from Benjamin -- especially for some of the older guns.
So, perhaps we cannot blame Crosman for the single valve spring. Told you it was interesting.
Apparently then, Crosman hasn't or isn't involving themselves in the design of these guns -- only the manufacturing. So, the 2-springs-in-the-valve is all new again to everyone! Exciting to think about doing some of these mods, for me!!!

In mid 1997 they started using the removable valve. Maybe that design change was already on the "drawing board" before Crosman bought Benjamin out.
